RIP 100 dollars
The game just had no personality.
It made me realize how much Smash gets right and why I roll my eyes at all the "Sakurai doesn't even try to make these games" shit.
Buying 4 and the bundle. 3 + bundle to use and 1 to save for the apocalypse.

The idea that Sakurai made Brawl bad on purpose is crazy.Just do what I do whenever someone spouts the "oh Sakurai made the first two games good on accident and made Brawl bad on purpose" drivel: laugh, then block them.
Man that entire situation was FUCKED. :lol
The idea that Sakurai made Brawl bad on purpose is crazy.
It was an accident.
*applause*People trip on accident, too.
I'm not the happiest with some things about the (possibly/probably) leaked roster, but playable Shulk more or less makes up for it. One of those characters that I want, but wouldn't ever imagine ever having an actual chance.I've been assuming since day one that Shulk will be in, but are you guys so confident that you're talking about him as if he's a guaranteed certainty?
Might be a little misleading to someone unaware of any supporting context.
Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.People trip on accident, too.
Many things are misleading if you are ignorant of context.I've been assuming since day one that Shulk will be in, but are you guys so confident that you're talking about him as if he's a guaranteed certainty?

And make Melee 2.0 as a result! Why do we fall? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.
True. I actually respect them trying to do something original, but man it was boring. Same thing with each level being a mash-up. Original idea, but it really took away from the experience for me.I really wish it had ended up just being a poor man's Smash. The super system wasn't fun after the first ten minutes of experimentation and just finding out which one was the best killer for your character.
The presentation is one of the biggest detractors for me. That's something Smash just nails, but this game is just plain ugly. The roster was also extremely disappointing. If they were really going for Playstation all-stars, they really missed the mark. Granted there were some really cool choices (Jak/Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ratchet/Clank, and Sir Daniel Fortesque), but overall it was really uninspired. Obviously securing rights is a big issue, but I'd love more characters like The Prince from Katamari or Wander from Shadow of the Colossus.I'm still surprised how much they failed with PBAS. I mean, as you say, the super system idea is really unrewarding a lot of the time and highly unintuitive for new players, the UI looks horrible and if that wasn't enough each UI screen takes an age to load. You spend faaaar too long waiting on loading for a game that's entirely on your HDD if you downloaded it (Which I did) Add on the questionable roster, incongruent and sometimes flat out ugly art style and there's just really not much there to recommend :/
I was actually joking about Smash 4.And make Melee 2.0 as a result!
I was actually going for more of a hope that Smash 4 = Melee 2.0.I was actually joking about Smash 4.
Though Project M is so good, I can understand why you'd be confused.
Oh.I was actually going for more of a hope that Smash 4 = Melee 2.0.
In general, the big complaints are overall slower pace and speed, random tripping, less opportunity for combos (which along with strong defensive options, ledge invincibility, and powerful recovery, leads to long, defense focused matches).Forgive the ignorance here, but can anyone quickly sum up what makes brawl bad compared to the other two?
I've enjoyed the whole series so far, I think melee is my favourite but I couldn't really tell you why or what is wrong with brawl.
My plan is to buy a 2DS as cheap as I can and consider it a 'disposable' Smash controller kinda thing.I'm living in fear of destroying my 3DS Circle pad when Smash comes out in October. Anybody have experience with circle pad covers? Anything I can do to protect that little guy a bit?

So who here legitimately liked tripping?
I know I did and i'm dead serious about that.

I know I never liked it, but I never hated it as much as a lot of the internet. At best, if a group of friends were playing it we'd get a bit of a laugh if it happened at inopportune moments. At worst, it was annoying.
But my friends and I don't play anything remotely resembling upper level play, so we never had the same viewpoint on Brawl as a lot of competitively minded folk.
It never bothered me at the level I was playing Smash at the time, but it was an unnecessary feature that hurt the game way more than it added to it.So who here legitimately liked tripping?

I tripped right into a fully charged Smash once. :-(I never played at a level where tripping won or lost a match for me.
Not to say it didn't for others, but not for me.
It's not just the balance that's my issue; Landmaster and Super Sonic and Snake's final smash are also annoying because the characters become invincible while using them, so for an extended period of time the match turns from a fight to "avoid one person while they shoot fish in a barrel". And because Smash Balls are so common, that eats up way too much of the time.I like final smashes and the smash ball, some just need a buff like triforce slash and mario finale and some like super sonic and landmaster need a nerf

That thread reminds me, I'm disappointed they didn't change up final smashes too much. They aren't really fun to play with, even for super moves. I like the smash ball mechanic, it's the final smashes themselves that were the problem.
I wouldn't mind if Smash Balls were really rare, because changing the match dynamic occasionally can be fun.I enjoy a good match with items, but my problem with Smash Balls and, worse, the Dragoon is that they change the entire point of the match. Suddenly you stop concentrating on tactically dealing damage and avoiding your opponent's damage, and the match becomes something else entirely. And they're not rare occurrences either.
Haha. You know there's going to be some announcements at EVO. Killer Instinct!! Cinder!!

I REALLY hope they implement that. I've been wanting that since Melee.I wouldn't mind if Smash Balls were really rare, because changing the match dynamic occasionally can be fun.
But because they're common, the battle is broken up way too much.
This is why I feel items should have individual adjusters for drop rate beyond just turning them on and off.
Thanks for that blanket statement. You're a real intelligent guy.I wouldn't say I liked tripping but I will say that anyone who says it lost them a match is a liar.
Listened to Greninja's voice for the first time without any other sound interference.
Conclusion: Good lord, he sounds awful.
Hope there's an option to get rid of voices.
