Halo 4's MP was bad. Fastest abandoned Halo game and the numbers speak for themselves... #DealWithIt

Talking about catering to the casuals, which happened a lot in Halo 4.

Does offering one of many controller schemes really mean catering to casuals now? That's a bit extreme.

Here's a question for thought for you guys.

If Halo 4 had been exactly what Halo 3 was but with better graphics would everyone here have been really happy? An even better question would be, how would the Halo community currently be had we got a sequel that was very similar?

So something along the lines of:

- Halo 4's campaign features covenant and flood enemies once again, game takes place on another Halo and/or earth.

- Forge/Firefight/Theater is all there and unchanged from Halo 3

- Multiplayer is identical to 3's with the return of equipment once again.

- There is no sprint, kill cams, extra text on screen, AA's, loadouts or anything it's pure identical gameplay to Halo 3.

So basically, a Halo 4 where the only similarity is the graphics. Would we all be happy right now?

You clearly have no idea that there is a difference between making no changes and making bad changes.

The moments where strafing left and right, or jumping to dodge headshots at just the right time.

The moment where your about to die and you look down to lower your hit box kn your head.

The moment where you crouch around the level to hear or find out what the other team is planning

The perfectly sized maps that were created in halo 1 2 and 3

Those perfect grenade throws that you combo with your weapon to install your enemy

The times where you tactically move around the map knowing the spawns of the power weapons

ALL OF THIS defines the core halo gameplay and would be severely gimped if we let these tards start sprinting like flash around the map.

I hope they do not cater to these individuals with halo 5. Got a problem with it? They are an enormous amount of games that will let you sprint in multilayer. Please play those. Stay away from the core halo gameplay

In a female voice, every 2 minutes on Chill Out: "Rocket. Camo. Overshield." If anyone knows what this is and actually used it, you're an OG in my eyes.

Power-up/power weapon timing in CE is probably going to be jarring for some people once they see how dominant a team/player can. I can see that turning away a lot of new players if they don't have the determination to improve.

Quadrupling the over shield in Prisoner and then falling down onto a team that was on the first floor and having them waste rockets on your charging over shield... GODDAMN I CANNOT WAIT TO HAVE THIS GAME ONLINE.

Stinkles you're here..

Please tell me if we can choose a datacenter to matchmake on like titanfall??

This is the last piece of info that I desprately want!!

This is a dumb thing to complain about. The "idea" actually comes from OG Xbox Medal of Honor, which had a Halo scheme called "Hail to the Chief."

Some people will just look for anything to complain about. I have had my complaints. Some of them being stupid too but Jesus complaining about a control scheme is just beyond childish.

As Halo games progressed in the series with Halo 2, 3, Reach and Halo 4, we see the once great core concept from Halo CE being completely lost. Will it come back in Halo 5? We don’t know yet. If it doesn’t, we at least have Halo: CE on Xbox Live running at 1080p, 60 frames per second and played on dedicated servers.

With Halo 5 coming next year, I believe the game should revert back to its roots of Halo Combat Evolved which should pay its respects to Quake 3. Halo 5 has the potential to provide a game experience like no other on the Xbox One. It has the opportunity to stand in the same ranks as Starcraft II, League of Legends, DOTA 2 and Ultra Super Street Fighter 4.

I believe 343i understand that Halo at its original core was an arena shooter, not a hybrid of COD...which is what it is today in its current form of Halo 4.

I'd like Stinkles (Frankie) to say what he feels Halo core multiplayer really is. Tell the honest truth, I wanna know his opinion.

I think 343i and MS wants to see what Halo MP will be played the most. There are 4 halo games with 4 different mp mechanism.
My bet is H4 MP will be played the least.
Hope they will release activities Numbers for each MP.

Great value, incredible games.
Can't wait.

I don't think he should, because I think any answer would be selectively used to fuel a negative reaction from people with an existing view on it. Frank was present for the previous games. He isn't an element that's changed over the course of the series, and he isn't the only person behind its development.

^ Pretty much that.

4's issues are not because the game is different. Reach was different and (although flawed itself in multiple ways) I loved it.

The major problems with 4's campaign were very poor storytelling (knowledge of the EU basically being a requirement to understand what was going on), the Forerunner enemies being bullet sponges and not visually well designed (in the past, you could always pick out which enemies were bigger threats, in Halo 4 you just get randomly fried, only discovering that it had a power weapon after the fact), and being a bit too corridor-heavy lacking as many open sandbox spaces as past installments.

Featureset stuff like theater was perceived as a problem since the game was more limited than 3 and Reach. 343 gets some slack there since Bungie's featuresets were huge, while 4 was their first game. I think some people were kinda sour though since a lot of stuff wasn't available at launch re: theater and despite the "improvements", Forge turned out to be less flexible than Reach's in ways.

And in general, a lot of the multiplayer changes turned Halo into a game it's not. It tried too much to be like CoD (and lost half its playerbase two weeks after launch when the new CoD came out). It's not like any single change was "bad", but rather they all stacked up in ways that turned off many of the core players.

They complain about anything.

I wasn't complaining, about the control scheme, at all. Hell, I think 343i should finally make the step for button mapping. I was just stating, that the person was wrong with his "right stick is zoom/aim" point.

Also, my comment about "catering to casuals" does not relate to that post. I quoted a post and then decided to delete it, before I posted my post and I forgot to remove that part. Sorry for the confusion.

However, I'm not changing my opinion, about Halo 4 being a game made for casuals or that it's focus was on the casual player base. I'm not alone with this.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

Anyone who complains about the filthy casuals just after using a hashtag in a forum post is ...probably someone I don't care to play with.

So are we getting a collector's edition? My money's ready to fly to your ample bosom.

I am a bit ashamed to admit that I am just about ready to throw my wallet at any special bundle of any kind that comes our way.

This is so true, now more than ever. Those games you listed, along with their enormous audiences and fanbases, show that there is a market for deep and nuanced multiplayer that rewards people who put time into improving.

From CE to 2, and from 2 to every subsequent game in the series, the common refrain was always that they wanted to make a game that was fun for everyone. This always confused me because they had already made a wildly successful game that was fun for everyone while being incredibly deep and complex. It was called Halo CE.

The esports boom really eliminates any last excuse to not return to the true and amazing roots of this series. I hope the developers of this great series finally gives their audience the credit it deserves after all these years.

Sure, if the Writing would make sense I'm in
- Forge/Firefight/Theater is all there and unchanged from Halo 3
That would mean Theater would be better than the Halo 4 version, because you know Halo 4 couldn't even show campaign stuff, but no, we do want progress and changes, but only stuff that makes sense and is good.
- Multiplayer is identical to 3's with the return of equipment once again.
Equipment was dumb, but waaaaaaaaaaay better than AAs
- There is no sprint, kill cams, extra text on screen, AA's, loadouts or anything it's pure identical gameplay to Halo 3.
Hell yes, even better would be Halo 2 gameplay

So basically, a Halo 4 where the only similarity is the graphics. Would we all be happy right now?The competive community and me would be happy, yes

I don't play Halo MP, so I can't really argue with people about it, but Halo 4's campaign is the best in the franchise as far as I'm concerned. It got so many things right that I've been waiting to see the franchise do properly and/or at a higher level. Easily one of the strongest games of the last gen.

This is the kind of response i was looking for. Obviously there is going to be some changes, as there always is with a new Halo installment. What i was trying to get across is, did we want another Halo that remained primarily unchanged?

I agree with most of your answers by the way.

Right there with you man, i'm glad 343 got the opportunity to tell that story. I'm primarily a campaign player as well but even saying that i still spend 50-100 hours on each Halo's multiplayer.

This is perfectly true, but people will do that anyway. I have no problem saying what I like, I'm not the MP design lead, I'm simply expressing my opinion.

I like Team Slayer
I like even matches
I like running for timed power weapons
I like creeping into your base.
I love SWAT
I like BR and DMR, I like pistol, but never mastered it.
I am an excellent driver, I like driving everything, so I like big team.

My favorite games would be Team Slayer on Guardian or Lockout, SWAT on Haven, or two flag CTF on Blood Gulch/Coag.

Will there be Australian servers at launch my man?

So the MP design lead dictates heavily what the MP should be for each game? It just fathoms me how we go from Halo CE being a game that adopted Quake 3 principles, to duel wielding in Halo 2, to assault rifle and random BR spread in Halo 3, to bloom in Halo Reach, and then into the COD-clone Halo 4.

Forgive me if I'm being bitter. I purchased Halo CE the day Xbox launched in 2001, and it was the best console FPS ever created. If it's not wrong...why change it?

I can respect evolving, but leaving the core of Halo behind in the dust...that's not good design.

The Apple Mac computer has evolved quite a bit over time, but it still functions as a core desktop computer with a mouse and keyboard. Halo's evolution said screw the mouse and keyboard, we're gonna go crazy and change everything up.

As a Halo fan yeah.. Halo 4 multiplayer was bad. However, I'm still having a hard time trying to figure it out what does the #dealwithit meme has to do with anything right now.

Yes to all of this. It's what makes Halo... well, Halo!

What do you consider the "core" of Halo?

Because for me it's strongly present in every Halo.

I think you should be MP lead designer.

I don't think it's hardcore or "casual." It's a distinct, reductive experience, like a highlights reel of Slayer instead of the whole game.
It gives me more "edge of your seat" feeling while I'm playing. I tend to not be thinking as much about strategy as "oh shit, I better get my shot off first!" I like SWAT and Slayer, the are distinctly different experiences for me.
<3 Slayer

Oh, I don't why this post reminded me of this Frank, but what is your opinion on One-life, Round based gametypes? Think, SnD from COD and Counter Strike. Do you think a gametype like that would work in Halo?

I guess this post goes to other people in the thread too.

If Stinkles got a dollar for every time he actually answered someone's questions, he'd be a very poor man.

Er... I'm just going to assume you haven't been keeping an eye on Stinkles/Halo threads very much over the years. He answers a considerable amount of sensible questions.
