They should port Infinite first, i bet mp could use some new players.
MCC will pull in more money then Halo Infinite though especially since the MP is free anyways. Infinite is dead. MCC is a collection of beloved (minus 4) games that will sell a shit ton on PS/NS.
It’s only a matter of time, and when it does I will triple dip, and then when it comes to switch I’ll dip for the fourth time.
Same. I'll buy Halo day 1 on PS, but wait for a sale on NS2. Same with Gears.

Everything after ODST is nothing but a waste of time and an infuriating experience. And don’t get me started with the scripts. Maybe now that MS is third party Sony could give them Bungie to see if they can recover some of their glory days.

I'm talking about mp only and they nailed that. Sp campaign was crap though, but i doubt current Bungie could do it better.

Someone needs to bring back the OG team. I can’t believe that the industry was once searching for an Halo killer and now nobody is doing anything remotely close :(

The weird part is how little Sony have actually done, and yet ended up in this position.

Actually, maybe that's exactly the wrong way to look at it: MS have been constantly pivoting since around 2010 in an attempt to gain more market-share, and in almost every instance its ended up backfiring on them.

Sony worked their asses off during the PS3 and PS4 era to build their franchises up. What you mean they did nothing? You think games sell that well and become that big by doing nothing?

I hope they release a physical edition for both Halo the MCC and Forza Horizon 5.

Im planning on getting both.

But also, it’ll get some people confused when they visit they PS5 section at any video games retailer and see that Halo and Forza are on a PS console.

It's really the PS3 and PS4 generation that built this. Combination of Sony 1st party, Microsoft shooting themselves in the foot with Kinect, DRM/region lock, losing the Japanese 3rd parties, etc.

This gen Sony has kind of sucked, but it doesn't matter, because Microsoft managed to be worse. It's been a decade since Sony had to do anything to "win the console war". Microsoft has been losing it on their own.

That’ll be when it hits home for the masses that Xbox is dead

I am not sure you could tell a young zoomer this and they would believe you but Halo 3 was one of the biggest entertainment products ever when it came out. Now the series is totally irrelevant, not even 2nd tier. Sea of Thieves is a bigger game for MS than Halo and it's not close. The mismanagement of this franchise is just incredible but hey they got a girlboss in charge.

Halo 3 was an event. The E3 trailer was majestic, and then the launch was widely covered even in mainstream media. I'd wager Halo was bigger than GTA at the time. Certainly in the US.

To be fair though, Modern Warfare also put sand in our eyes. It was there, and its snappy gameplay and XP system captured a lot of gamers by an instant. Many dropped Halo by late 2007. MS also started to push CoD more, as they had promotion and DLC exclusivity.

Let's check on the Xbox super fans today.

Oh my.

I was surprised at the similar vibes over on Reddit. A lot of use of the word "betrayal"...

But these are people who mostly just rented their games...

I mean corporations don't care about customer loyalty at the best of times, but what loyalty did they expect when they invested zero in the platform?

And most of them were talking about jumping ship in a heartbeat, which is exactly the problem for Xbox. You've got these users but they have no investment in your ecosystem - they're just passers by and when the wind changes they're off.

Anyway, what's done is done. It's not exactly news that has set the internet on fire or anything - the Sega stuff was more impactful even then, and that predated social media. This is all a bit damp. MS have even managed to mishandle what could have been a major hype event by drip feeding this stuff and doing it in a disorganised way.

Yeah, pretty surreal but I’m also old enough to remember when we never thought we’d control Sonic on a Nintendo.

I’d like to buy a disc version that isn’t trash so I may do so with this release.

Sony have maintained a steady ship for the past 15 years.

Microsoft have just been all over the place.

are in a big trouble
I honestly think ms are doing the right thing here. They are letting everyone play the games they have but I see a future where xbox will be the Netflix of gaming.

Sony and Nintendo are not set up for this at the moment The future of gaming is going to be cloud-based and Microsoft are already starting this. Again think of it as Netflix you will have an Xbox app for your TV for your phone etc and all you do is click and play. Yes I know latency and stuttering is an issue right now but there was a time people said 4K streaming can't be done. Think 7 or 8 years down the line cloud will improve. It won't be perfect but we will slowly move towards it

Having gotten my ass whooped on Deck despite being a good console player: MCC on Switch 2 will be the definitive version of the game to get (if you value portability).

Yeah, this is exactly the point I was trying to make. Sony, have just been "steady".

The don't say too much anymore, they don't announce way in advance, business expansions are always kind of "bolted onto" the core Playstation business, but generally don't interfere with their traditional output. Being honest I suspect that despite a lot of people are wrong for thinking that the shift to more service titles by studios formerly known for SP stuff has been imposed on them top-down, it may have come from themselves.

ND wanted to make Factions 2 before the live service push started, Bend's local management were the ones who nixed a Days Gone follow up... etc.
I feel like people underestimate the appeal to studios of pitching live-service stuff. If it lands, its years of secure funding without constantly prototyping and pitching new ideas.

I never use my Switch in handheld because I just can't play with the joycons. The sticks are so small! I play docked and have an adapter to use any controller I want. I usually use the series x controller.

Yeah to be fair it’s a struggle. They feel ‘ok’ to me but only with a Skull and Co grip (adjusts the position of your hands and thumbs) and joystick caps.

I was always a big fan of Halo, but it definitely lost it's luster over the last several years.

That being said, I agree that MCC would be the smartest port. Infinite will probably come over, but we'll see. Everything up to Reach was fantastic.

But Halo is still a well-known IP that would be more earth-shattering of a "this is it" moment for the reality of what Microsoft is pivoting to in my opinion.

Forza is a big one, but the instant you see arguably MS' "mascot" on the PlayStation, it's a true reality check.

Its the only way to revitalize these brands, by bringing them to a 100 million+ console userbase on top of PC.

If they're good, they will sell at least twice as much. If Gears E Day manages to capture the feel of the original trilogy, I could see it becoming a big hit because PS5 will give them the needed reach and coverage. Halo is the same, the brand is slumbering. But it has great potential and many gamers still remember it. First foremost those games need to be good, and thats a challenge considering their pedigree.

This is the most ironic part about all this, as Xbox games success on PS5 will by and large come from (former) Xbox fans.

So the higher the sales on PS5, the more likely it is more and more people jumped ship.

They already did. Many 360 gamers likely jumped ship to PS4, and by the looks of it quite a bit of Xbox One owners jumped to PS5. They know these IP.

True, which would still be an L for MS, as it would mean they won't really gain much mindshare at the expense of devaluing their brand even more.

I played Blops6 non-stop on Portal with crossplay on and had zero problems competing.

Multiplayer FPS works perfectly fine.
No it doesn’t. You’re literally playing at a guaranteed disadvantage over someone playing on local hardware. This is an undeniable fact.

Technically, yes.

But it's not a problem at all, unless you have shit internet.

Or if it's a skill-issue and you rather blame it on streaming.

It’s not a skill issue or an internet issue.

If you are 1 v 1 with another player on local hardware of exact equal skill to you, you would lose every single time if you are playing via streaming.

There is no variable that reduces the additional input lag incurred by using a streaming device to 0.
No, you're right, but there are to actually playing the game and being able to compete with other players.

But tbh, I'm not out to convince you.
You say it's shit on Portal, I say it isn't. Fine with me.

Edit:

I'll just leave this here, you make of it what you will:

Microsoft( specifically Phil) is on record as saying there's 'no red lines' on what can come over. I suspect the only reason MCC hasn't popped up yet is they're waiting for the Switch 2 launch to dual release it with PS5. Also, the 'stagnant' playerbase on PC/Xbox is exactly the reason to reignite the game by putting it on two very popular platforms. I wouldn't be surprised if they use this opportunity to add Halo 5 to the package.
Interesting, I hadn't caught that quote. Neither was I aware that Forza had been ported over until now. Makes a lot more sense.

Appreciate the info!
