lmao this is terrible. There are 3 characters in PM with no final smashes, Mewtwo's is straight up broken, and Roy's is buggy as hell. Not to mention the smash ball is coming frequently.

To top it off, they are playing on a terribly made custom stage.

It's why only Smash Ball with medium rate sucks. This tournament is a joke. Unless this isn't a tournament and just friendlies, then whatever, still a terrible ruleset.

I guess I'll have to have a house rule to not allow custom moves, but with it set on, because I want to use Mii.

I wonder how they'll work in the various single player modes. Will you be able to have CPU Mii fighters? Will you fight them in classic mode?

I kind of wish they'd make Mii more seamless as a character so they feel like they're being treated like normal characters.

This is why it's an exhibition match and not a proper tournament.

I mean it's FFA on a custom stage for a single event that's a walkoff to boot, of course it's a joke.

I think they're just an extra:
- No symbol
- No default moveset
- Not available online
- Not available without customization (?)

The thing is that they're not normal characters really and feel incredibly out of place to me so I'm completely fine with them being somewhat sectioned off just because it makes them more likely to be banned from tournaments.

They haven't added any actual new characters yet though have they? They've just been filling up the roster from with characters from the others Smash I thought.

And I dunno. Nintendo's luckily being way cooler with Project M than I thought they would be, especially with that thing they said recently to Prog apparently, but I just think this could be the type of stuff that makes them start pushing their luck.

Doesn't excuse the fact they just chose a terrible set up. The ruleset is inherently flawed just because of some character's advantages and disadvantages.

Hopefully they are having fun. It doesn't look that fun. Should have chosen a different stage and enabled all items except the smash ball and stopwatch.

They've added content to the game that wasn't in the game, doesn't matter if it's a completely new character or not, the implementation is quite different anyway.


Also what exactly do you think Prog said? Because I transcribed the main points of his stream to everyone and he said they know about it but weren't bothered about it.

Yeah I think you misinterpreted what I said, it wasn't written the greatest I'll admit. That's what I was saying too. I was saying I was surprised how cool they seemed by it. I just know Nintendo though. They can sometimes say "FUCK THAT" at the flip of a switch if they feel like it.

Not from me. I had to wait in line for an hour-and-a-half just to get in, and they were already out of tickets by the time I got here. I only kind of hate everyone right now.
Fwiw, it's the E3 build, so probably nothing new coming out of today's event.
 
I agree that the stage itself doesn't look very good and would have rather them using the same idea but with a background based on the real CEO stage, instead of one based on the Smash 4 stage.

There are rumors that they are considering to add 5 new characters to PM but they wouldn't use any Smash 4 characters tho so I guess they are going to wait and see who got in the game.

I think it's kinda sticky situation since Smash 4 is going to have DLC characters if rumor is right.

Outside of Isaac this would be a really weak set of characters

If you're going to add an Advance Wars character, it should be Andy who is the face of the franchise, not Sami it'd be like having Dixie Kong with no Donkey or Diddy.

Lyn is kind of whatever for me, it'd be an easy AT model rip but she really doesn't belong in the same breath as characters like Marth or Ike. It'd be kind of like skipping over Tails or Eggman for someone like Shadow or Knuckles... fuck

And Skull Kid I never understood the appeal, yes I love Majora's Mask but if you're going to add a Zelda character Impa or Vaati or even fucking Tingle should be playable before the Skull Kid.

Sami is a fan favorite that will never get in a real game because of Andy. Lyn is clearly only ever going to be an AT but is a fan favorite. Even if for some reason Sonic gets a second character it wouldn't be Knuckles, but Knuckles is cool. Skull Kid wouldn't get in before most of the other one shots, but people like MM. That's the point lol
 
New mode looks awesome! Still hoping we get new characters though.

Remember, they're trying to avoid Smash 4 newcomers despite not knowing the roster of that game. They're probably not going to pick characters that have a super high chance of being in.

I think they're intentionally adding characters they think won't be playable in SSB4. Pretty sure that's the reason behind the slightly odd choices, even though some of them are still pretty popular. I think it's smart.

I dunno when you start adding in C-tier character like Sami and Skull Kid your mod goes from feeling like Brawl2.0 to Super Flash Bros Melee The final battle

He is? News to me :o

I had a quick google of all the advance wars promotional stuff and for the games that contain the original cast, they all feature Sami, Andy and Max. I can't find any purely Andy ones that don't have a Sami and Max equivalent :P

Sami doesn't even show up until Mission 8 in Advance Wars 1, and in that game the story follows Andy's perspective for most of the game even if you play as someone else.

No problem! Also, when I played the new Smash, by instinct I was up tilting to jump instead of pressing the jump buttons, which is weird because I never do that in previous Smashes. On the Wii U version I gradually came back to using the buttons, but on the 3DS I didn't play enough to do so. I think it was just me not being used to the controls, but I still found it weird.

Yeah I can see it taking a few matches to get used the 3DS version.

Ah, fair enough. It's been a while since I played it and Andy is your typical shounen protagonist so I guess I didn't remember :P
To be honest, my lasting memory of any character in Advance wars was Nell because she was both your tutorial and pretty much most of the UI in the first game XD

Yeah. Oh, I forgot another big control change that mixed a lot of people, myself included, up! You must now hold the special button to do your final smash. This screwed a lot of people up the first time they got the Smash Ball. But it also means you can use standard specials even when you have the Smash Ball now, as long as they don't require charging.
