i always thought samus's bomb's took a while to explode in the metroid games :/ or maybe im remembering wrong and i like bowsers new look to be honest he kinda reminds me of the inside story bowser where i think he punches as his basic attack?
Yeah, but are you a Bowser main? I am, and I am dropping him because of these changes. We have a dozen characters that punch and kick. We didn't need more.

Samus' bombs exploded on contact in Melee. It made them fun and worth using.

It's a fighting game. Bowser uses wrestler style moves now. There really isn't a wrestler sort of person in smash.

You seriously prefer bowser to sort of glide on the ground and look really awkward when fighting over looking like he does in game and using more appropriate styled moves?

Samus' bombs not exploding on contact are more true to Metroid.

Melee/Brawl's Animalistic, monser Bowser > The lame Saturday morning cartoon villain in the actual Mario games & SSB4.

I can't say I really dislike any of them but I like the new Bowser way more than the Melee one. I'll never understand why they made him like that in the previous installments...

Hey guys whatcha talking about...

It's certainly weekend SmashGAF indeed

'cause he's a giant cool monster turtle thing who didn't really have a defined fighting style at the time melee came around. I'd be okay with the changes if we had a new giant monster that fights like a monster to replace him. hint hint

also Bowser's new nair is the dumbest thing. His old one looked rad.

Bowser in Melee/Brawl looks more like a poor helpless animal.

I don't know how this

gives off the vibe of a Saturday morning cartoon villain. I mean that is what Bowser is in the Mario games, but he can get real nasty in them, but in Smash, he has been more of a beast, and now his posture and movement shows that more.

Kraid? Godzilla? Roy Koopa? Giant Bowser Jr? :P

HAHAHAHAHA... HA

Melee/Brawl Bowser is garbage. He doesn't fit within his own series, he has no personality, his voice is generic as fuck and his design looks so wrong.

Bowser from the Mario games is sooo much better. He actually feels like he could be intelligent enough to command an army, yet he's still dopey enough that you'll never doubt that a cubby plumber could outwit him. He's not a mindless monster, he's a villain that lives up to the series that he represents. I will defend the REAL Bowser to the end of time.

Melee Bowser looks like an animal.

Brawl Bowser looks like a geriatric.

Smash 4 Bowser looks like a saturday morning cartoon villain, which is just fine with me.

I've seen some whacky arguments in this thread, but this is among the whackiest.

How about we play the game to judge if a character is good rather than basing him off his goddamn walking animation?

Pretty sure it was inspired by the way he moved in SM64.

No, Bowser definitely didn't crawl on the floor in Super Mario 64 like some kind of shot animal.

I also don't remember him slashing with his claws/doing a supplex (in Brawl).

His Down-B originated from SMB3.

The only move I can see being inspired from SM64 is his Flame breath. I don't think Bowser had a continuos flame breath before, but I could be wrong.

Who gives a fuck about source material? Captain Falcon can't do anything but drive a car. I want to have fun, and timed bombs are useless.

Plus you have to recognize the inherent idiocy in arguing for material closer to the source while praising a new Bowser based on wrestling moves. We all know Bowser is known for his drop kicks and grapples in Mario games.

Aesthetics are important. Especially in a fan service game.

Now we know more things about Customization. Apparently Palutena and Mii are getting unique moves for their customization, awhile rest of known characters getting variable version of their Special move sets.

Now, let go back to this picture.

I would like to believe that we might getting new up-aerial attack for Peach, but I could be wrong.

I wonder if we are getting new up aerial attack or what?

I think it's just a new, more colorful animation for her old one

Uhuh

I'd wager quite a lot of people do.
A lot of people are idiots if they think source material should determine how characters play.

Known for.

I do. Do you seriously want every character to just have some random assortment of moves that have nothing to do with the source material?
Is it really THAT hard to read the conversation and get context before responding? Is it?

His stance and voice were based on how he looked and sounded in Mario 64. Even the flamethrower is likely based on his attack from that game.

Ever since Brawl they had been tweaking him to match modern Mario games though, he's one of rare characters that actually became brighter and more cartoony going from Melee to Brawl, in spite of Brawl's overall art direction. They just didn't change his standing animation and voice until now.

No, Bowser definitely didn't crawl on the floor in Super Mario 64 like some kind of shot animal.

Hm... I can't remember his running animation (IIRC, he did have a running movie in Mario 64, but I can't remember if it just looked like his standard walk but faster, rather than something like Melee's), but his old standing animation was definitely based on Mario 64. He didn't stand straight in that game either and generally looked less humanoid than in later 3d games.

What's that supposed to mean? Pit's Special Moves were based off his old moves (from Kid Icarus) in Brawl and now in SSB4 his Final Smash and some of the A moves (which couldn't be based off Kid Icarus by virtue of that game being a platformer) also are.

What an awful avatar quote.

I only played the first kid icarus, but could he later split his bow in half?

Only in Sakurai's own Kid Icarus Uprising. He couldn't do that in the original game or the Gameboy sequel.

At the time of Brawl, Sakurai said that his concept for Pit in Brawl was basically like imagining what would happen if his character had been changed through the years like Link.

I'm pretty sure Brawl was in context of that avatar quote. But is that even fair in the discussion of characters who've had more than enough material to work with beforehand?

Not that it even matters in Karsticles' argument.

Is it really THAT hard to read the conversation and get context before responding? Is it?

I did. The vibe I got from your post is that the source material isn't important at all. You used Captain Falcon as an example and even continued ridicule people who think source material is important in determining how a character plays

If I'm mistaken, then I apologize.

The bow blades were certainly unique, but three of his special moves were based off his game.

I'm not saying every single aspect needs to be taken form the source material! Perhaps Kartsicles agrees with that and I misinterpreted him.
