I'm honestly surprised the ref called it. That late in the game for a player that's known for diving and also did so during the match.

And while i believe there is a contact by Marquez and therefore a penalty. Robben falls like he was shot. More grounds to believe he was diving

This, my friends, is what happens when you sit back with just a one goal lead. This is the Netherlands were talking about here, you can't get complacent. Mexico did and that's that

There was contact obviously and Robben put his swimming trunks and goggles on and went diving. I'm not sure if it was a foul though. Doesn't matter cuz the one in the first half was. The timing for Mexico sucks though.

It's the Champions League final all over again. Can't score one goal and then Park the bus against superior teams. It will eventually bite you in the ass.

FAVE FIVE ORANJE PLAYERS:
1. Arjen Robben
2. Memphis Depay
3. Robin van Persie
4. Bruno Martins Indi
5. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

World Cup finals, here we come!

sucks for mexico. i was rooting for them since i love herrera's reactions. but they stopped pressuring after the first goal, which usually spells doom when it happens so early into the game

Onto Greece v. Costa Rica

NATO TO PIRATIKO!!!!

But for real, much respect to Costa Rica for what they have done so far. If they win and I am not too bitter, I'll probably even root for them.

i knew it was over as soon as they tied. didn't think mexico had it in them to score another. can't root for netherlands anymore though. hopefully they get destroyed by either costa rica or greece next game.

For the people who say it wasn't a penalty can you please explain why?

I saw a Mexican player step down on Robben's foot and foul him. He may have made the most out of the contact but it was still a definite foul.
Indeed, its a bit soft but can't criticise the ref for that decision. Robben made a meal out of it (nothing new there at all) but if he didn't look for it they might not have got it and would be struggling through ET right now.

Harsh on Mexico but this is football.

I've kept looking at it, and I'm not sure contact was made. It seems like Robben tried to jump over the leg and lost his balance. Now, I don't know enough about soccer to know if simply being in the way is a penalty, but that's what I'm seeing. Either way, Mexico kind of had it coming with the way they were playing after they scored.

people that have been legitimately tripped don't lift their arms above their head like a fairy. They put the arms down to brace the fall intuitively.

Frigging careless tackle in the box though.

This is pretty dumb. You might as well have said "I looked at the starting lineups and well, Netherlands is better, and therefore are the better side." They deserved to win, but I'd be lying if I say that I thought they were any better than Mexico today.
In the end, Mexico is coming home.

Yep. You can't play lazy against a team like the Netherlands.

Play lazy? I mean they let their guard down some at the end, but it's also 35+ degrees celcius, i wouldn't call that "lazy".

ND also wasn't doing perfectly at the end, with a slower game and a lot of missing passes.
