I was too busy to notice the music the first time through Lich Yard (too busy falling down bottomless pits in the dark, dagnabbit), but man, La Danse Macabre is the TITS.

I want to put this game in an arcade cabinet at a brick-and-mortar Pizza Hut. Hopefully that makes sense to someone here.

Just starting playing on 3ds and OMG this game was 100% meant for 3D. A lot of thought and care went into the 3D design. It looks so lifelss w/o 3D. I was pretty skeptical about which version to get, but now i'm 100% for the 3DS version.

Yeah, I'm nearly positive I'll buy this for 3DS after I'm done with the WiiU version. Love playing on a 47-inch screen with a full sound system and pad controller, but the 3D effect on 3DS is too much for me to resist. Plus, the myriad digital purchases on my home menu will feel incomplete without Shovel Knight. I'll slot it right next to DKC Returns 3D and Kirby Triple Deluxe -- a high honor, indeed!

Just got past the first part of the Tower. What an epic beginning the last level.

Game has loads of charm and the little campfire scene after every level is kind of endearing. Nice touch.

But poor, poor,(last level spoilers)
Black Kinght. My bro getting friend zoned.

I've already finished the Wii U version twice but I'll be double dipping on the 3DS version next time I'm in the mood to play through the game again (which will probably be pretty soon). Can't wait to see one of the best games I've played in recent memory in 3D.

Not to mention I love seeing the platforms sitting on their own plane and being completely separate from the background. Makes navigating levels that much easier.

Since my WiiU is still a few weeks old I haven't had much experience in MIiverse. The community for Shovel Knight had me rolling while I was checking it out. Some of the drawings are awesome.

Also I seem to be getting worse at Specter Knight.

Yeah, and the way it's implemented into the game is genius. Works so well!

Can't launch from Steam and get this message:

ycAssert! src\ycFileReaderPC.cpp: 20
if(!(ptr)): Create dir: Couldn't locate our prefpath: An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist.

Any ideas?

Edit: Using Wine on a Mac.

Blown away by how amazing this game has been so far. Only beaten 4 levels and from what it looks like, I have a LONG way to go. Difficulty can be intense as I'm not great at these types of games but holy shit, what an impressive game.

I was really standoffish by the videos I'd watched but SteamGAF really had nothing but great things to say so I took the plunge and bought it on Wii U (for now). Yup, this is a clear winner.

Question though about gold:
Does it have any other use later on besides buying meal tickets and upgrading magic? I only ask because I've lost a good bit here and there and would be happy to dump it all into this stuff if I can or should I wait? No specifics please, just a general idea on what it's used for being these two things.

Go ahead and dump it

The
Last Supper
in NG+ is a special kind of hell

It saddens me that Tinker Knight is such a joke. King Knight is harder once you learn the Tinker Tank's pattern.

I'm wearing that shirt right now! Anyways, just the last level to go. I'm not 100%ing it but I did get all relics and shovel upgrades. About 31 of the music sheets so far. Music is fantastic. As I said before I really don't want this game to end. Some of the most fun I've had in recent times with games.

Just bought this and played up until the King Knight. Loving it so far, but I have a feeling it is going to get pretty tough

If it weren't for
the gear
, Tinker Knight's first form would be harder.

But I'm okay with Tinker Knight being a joke, he's basically this game's Kraid.

I ignored this game for weeks and finally peeked inside this thread. Needless to say I was convinced that I needed this game in my life as soon as possible. Then I found out that it has yet to release on the EU 3DS eShop and my sould was crushed...
I might just get it on Steam. The PS4 controller should work, right?

I believe so. I think it was mentioned that the game even senses that it's a Dualshock and changes the button prompts to the PS shapes.

Played this for a little bit yesterday. A lot of indie games try to ascend the NES platforming throne that Capcom left behind, but a lot of them fall short for various reasons. Shovel Knight actually feels really legit, which kind of surprised me. It's got a distinct gimmick, which they appear to make great use of, has fun characterisation, fantastic music, interesting level designs, and exciting bosses. The last time I've seen anyone succeed as well at this style of game was with Shantae on the Gameboy Color.

This game is incredible. I've only beaten King and Specter Knight but I can already see that YCG really put their soul into this game.

I may be mistaken, but I think a Shantae dev alum actually headed up Shovel Knight

It does bro, it really does.......I'm just happy that I have the game and can play it anytime I want, but it would have been fun to discover this game at a local Pizza Hut or Round Table for the memories of it.

Sorry for the large image sizes.

Took Alo81's SweetFX 1.4 settings and lowered the resolution:

#define CRTResolutionX 360 //[1 to 2048] Original input width of the game (ie. 320)
#define CRTResolutionY 240 //[1 to 2048] Original input height of the game (ie. 240)

Unfortunately, some of the colors are not displayed correctly, and it looks terrible in motion.

The game is actually rendered at a high resolution, which allows for the smooth parallax scrolling. This causes an odd shimmering effect when using SweetFX.

Can anyone find a fix?

They just released an update for the Steam version.

http://steamcommunity.com/games/250760/announcements/

•Now you can save to the cloud! Steam saving error should no longer display. All of your current progress will transfer over on next game start.
•No Feat should go unnoticed! Added an option to the Feats menu which allows you to sync previously unlocked Feats to your Steam Achievements with the F4 key.
•Additional controller support. Thank you to everyone who submitted their devices! - http://yachtclubgames.com/2014/03/steam-controller-support/
•Direction inputs can be bound to multiple buttons. Just press more than one input at once. Intended for players who wanted to map Shovel Drop to its own button.
•Removed an “empty” Song Scroll from Clockwork Tower which could never be collected or turned in.
•Fix: The following Feats not unlocking in Steam Achievements: “I’m Alive”, “Hurry Up”, “Untouched”, and “Shovel Economy”
•Fix: “Halfway” Feat unlocking when re-clearing a stage.
•Fix: Black Knight ignores damage during Plains intro. For some players, there was a small window of opportunity to Ground Spark which could cause Black Knight to go off script.
•Fix: Sparker Feat not unlocking when defeating Black Knight.
•Fix: Player and Encounter Map movement halting the game under certain vsync/video settings.
•Fix: Monitors running higher than 60hz running at double speed or faster
•Fix: Some Boot up crash repairs for Steam

I've had interest in this game since the crowdfunding was announced but I've allways been on the fence because I felt it would be a game too hard for me to properly enjoy.

Do you think this would be the case? How hard is it?

For reference, i'm pretty terrible at games that require lots of skill. I was unable to pass DKC Returns wold 5 (stuck on 5-2 if my memory serves). But I can deal with games that require less skill and let you prepare or buff yourself a little like Monster Hunter or Rogue Legacy.

Also, are the 3DS controls good? How about a keyboard?

Shovel Knight is not a hard game. It offers challenge in fun ways, but someone who is not great at platforming or action can still enjoy it and finish it. You can buy health and magic upgrades in town to boost your max health and max MP, and learning how to use the sub-weapon relics can make the game a lot easier at some points too.

You'll probably find it reasonably challenging but not frustrating.

I'm finding Shovel Knight reasonably difficult as someone who's good at those sort of games, but I'm not really using any of things they offer to make the game easier. You can get health upgrades, improve your armour and weapon level, the relics will help you out a lot. And if you don't destroy the level checkpoints, you won't have to do much replaying of a level. I'd say go for it!
