can you save and quit this mid stage? And come back to whatever checkpoint you were on? Or do you have to actually finish a stage before wanting to quit?

The game only saves when you complete a stage, I believe. Or when returning to the map after visiting the village or other locations.

Whoever warned about the game glitching out if the GamePad dies was spot on, by the way. I thought I had mine plugged in...apparently not. Mine just died out with three hits left on the last boss of the gauntlet, and now I'll have to redo the entire ascent stage.
That...will not be happening right now. I need some time to cool off first.

This game taught me how much the D-Pad on the xbox controller sucks. What is funny is the DPAD has input lag, while the joystick doesn't.

I also give up -.-

More damage done on you, food is now bombs.

Double damage and only two checkpoints per level. Also, all healing items (bar ground carrots and fish via fishing) are replaced with bombs.

Are those confirmed to be the only differences?

Mole Knight stage was quite frustrating to get through the optional content. I think most of the problem was that money would almost always respawn in an inaccessible location. For a stage like this, things are a little too unforgiving with the controls. If you play things perfectly and anticipate how to adjust your movement when you are able to, things are okay. However, it's not always enjoyable to have to be that precise with such a limited control over movement.

So far the game has been fun most of the time, however it isn't that exciting for me. Not sure what expectations I had going into the game, but so far it isn't quite what I had hoped for. I think I am most disappointed in that it isn't really doing anything new, though that seems like an unfair criticism since it's clear that isn't what they were going for.

There's an armor you might find useful that lets you lose half as much gold when you die. That could be helpful, for one. Do you have any way to play with a Wiimote? I find that d-pad in particular is excellent for this game.

Mario? It's not exactly a old trend to have a comically proportioned man with a realistic proportioned woman on his side. Just look at Popeye.

but I would consider both these characters to be the same type (knights) unlike mario and princess or popeye where the girls are significantly diff. i see your point though.

Wow. Plague Knight's level destroyed me, but I managed to make it to the end. I'm not sure I'm ready for the rest of what's to come.
Plague Knight is actually considerably harder than his potential playthrough slot would suggest. I feel that the Explodatorium is much harder than the Clockwork Tower.

I don't actually have issues with money in the game. Just gets frustrating sometimes when you can't fully recover the cash.

The Xbox One controller is good for this game. Much more preferable to me than a Wiimote.

So I just realized something, and apologies if it has already been discussed, but I believe I could have come to a conclusion as to why one Nintendo platform choice is clearly the better one.

I currently own the WiiU version. I was torn as to which version to get, the 3DS or WiiU, but I ultimately decided on the WiiU version as I had a day off from work, so figured why not enjoy the game on my large screen TV.

But just now it hit me.
Especially due to the nature of the games levels, not saving unless you complete it, I cannot help but think the 3DS has the definitive advantage because of the fact it can always be resumed as long as the battery does not fully die.

My WiiU is set up to power down after I believe 2 hours of inactivity, and due to the fact I am 40 years old this December, it is powering down on its own a whole damn lot. Sometimes I think I have an hour to play something only to discover I actually only had 5 minutes. So I either need to quit the game and save it or leave the console itself on.

So yeah, I would say the 3DS has the clear advantage simply because it can be paused so easily, and in this game that is a crucial advantage to getting through the levels with no issues when one is pressed for time.

So, I am officially double dipping now.

If you care so much why don't you set your wii u to not power down...

But whatever. I picked Wii U for the very simple reason that I'd rather not play such a beautiful game on such a small screen. So I guess I'm not the best person to discuss advantages in detail.

Ah, my mistake. I forgot all about it and it's been a very busy several days. I'll do some work on it. Thanks for the reminder.

Has there been an overall consensus between the Wii U vs. PC versions? Starting to look into this game more. Just bought a Wii U last week, so not familiar with their downloadable titles.

Wii U version has the digger's diary, while the PC version doesn't have any exclusive in-game features. PC version has Steam trading cards (if you get it through Steam obviously). Some of the steam achievement integration is glitched.
I would say based off this thread, people are leaning more towards Wii U due to the better controller (Wii U gamepad/pro controller vs. the usual 360 PC controller). I have 3DS myself though.
I should mention that there is a bug where the game needs the gamepad to mantain power for the game to operate. If you choose a different controller, plug in the gamepad and you should be fine.

I have the Wii U Pro controller which feels great. If I do PC, I'll likely use the Xbox One pad.

Mostly on Xbox or PSN, so it's rare when I make purchases outside of there. I have no idea what the Stream cards do!

OMG THAT
TINKER
KNIGHT BATTLE MUSIC!

Seriously, that's some Wario Land-tier shit right there. Does Mr. Kaufman post on GAF? I just wanna, wow, just wow; this is easily some of his best work ever made. This might just be OST of the year.

the game keeps saying it can't find the steam save and will use a local save instead. is there a fix for this? also, half the time it starts without sound and i have to restart it

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
Does the 3DS version have digger's diary? Like I said earlier, it's one of the best uses of Miiverse so far.

Also, for thinking about going with the shovel Knight 3DS, just keep in mind that the free battle mode DLC most likely won't becoming to that version.

I double dipped for PC version.

And I gave up on the checkpoints part of the "no relics, no upgrades, no checkpoints" run idea and am just doing it with no relics or upgrades, because Jesus parts like that
boss rush
at the end would be stupid.

Just beat propeller knight. This game is so good - the music is catchy, the levels are so thoughtfully-designed. Can't say enough good things about this!

No Digger's Diary support unfortunately, 3DS games usually don't support miiverse integration (or at least of that type). There is a basic miiverse community though, so you can still post, with or without screenshots (lolpokemon).

Anyone know where to get music sheet number 22?

Details get increasingly more specific
Tower Ascent
After the first checkpoint
Crushing area
In the spike alcove, the right wall is false. Dig through.

EDIT: NVM, I'm full of shit. I was trying to go for that one, and I followed another guide's instructions, but I got #19 instead.

Anyone know of anymore?

I'm a little confused as to what the first one does. And can you only have one active at a time? I entered both but it seemed like only one worked.

Think of each as a special mode. They don't stack.
First one is a score attack challenge that was designed for a specific competition.

Just beat the game. WOW. Amazing ending. I can't believe I'm saying this but this game is prob my fav old school platformer besting my previous fav of mega man 2. As you can tell by my icon, I love zelda 2 and this game takes mega, zelda, and even better music than mega man 2 (on the whole) and creates one of the best games to come out in a while. btw I bought it on 3ds and steam and major 3ds advantage is having the icons below on the bottom screen so switching magic is a breeze.

Only question is - can you cheer up that toad in the second village? Yes or no is enough.

How are people finishing this in 4 hours, Im a good 5-6 hrs in and just got to the third part of the map that opens up, I am completing every area, people are not playing like this?!

I heard people say this game was easy...

...I'm getting my ass handed to be me on the first few stages of the game lol

Were you good at NES-style games ever? I never stopped playing them, so it's not really much of a challenge for me, but if you stopped or never did play them, I could see it being a bitch. I also thought Mega Man 9 and 10 were relatively easy as well, though, so I'm probably a freak.

Just beat the game. It was amazing. Great gameplay, great soundtrack, great everything. One of the best indie games I've ever played. Beat it in about 9 hours with 83 deaths and 81% completion rating.

Every other boss you beat spawns a chicken and magic. So if you supplant the fights with the red potions, you should be okay.

If you can get past Polar Knight, you should be golden. Polar Knight ends runs.

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who doesn't hate the 360 controller disc-pad. Sure it's inherently inferior to a d-pad but it's not completely unworkable. I've beaten this game fine with it and other games like Super Meat Boy with no problem.

On that note, I would gladly switch it for a Xbox One controller when it gets a native xinput driver and a wired cable. Or a dualshock 4 but that's never gonna get native drivers.

Polar Knight seems like one of the easiest to me. Dunno how different he is in New Game+, but I do this strategy on this run. If the only difference is just double damage, it's about the same difficulty considering I only had 4 hearts.

Polar Knight has somewhat of an RNG element to him if you're not a god at planning. Hell, he has an RNG element even if you are a great planner, the snowball overhead throw doesn't seem to have a set pattern, ergo not having a guaranteed window of no damage.

That said, I realized that the floor tiles are key. He's unable to do a shovel spread (the 3 bullets) if there isn't an snow at his feet, and if he is shoveling in a low-snow area, the likelihood of him getting 3 blocks in one scoop are slim. You can use this opportunity to attack.
Can anyone tell me how to trade Play Coins for gold? Thanks

Armory Outpost, you must defeat Treasure Knight to do so. Exchange rate is 1 coin to 100 gold though so I don't really bother outside of getting a small amount to be able to afford something.

holy crap, i totally forgot about all these damn extras in the game. I guess I backed around the 100,000+ mark because I love NG+ in my games.

Speaking of extras, do we know if they'll be free for everyone or just people who backed it with the extras being DLC?
