PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

People keep saying that but they don't give any reason. And I'm not buying a expensive ass $50 $44 (must've gone down a bit) game without some kinda catch besides "being really good" I mostly want those other games just so I can listen to the music endlessly.

It is just really good though. One of the best gameplay style for rhythm games, and if you like K/J-pop/electronica/house it has the best soundtrack out of the rhythm games out now on vita, though I do like the vocaloid stuff.

Also it's just slick as fuck.

It's been a while since I've been excited about anything on the Vita. Luckily I'm still playing Spelunky, but I'm desperately waiting for something new.

Binding of Isaac - Please. Hurry. Up.
VVVVVV - This is now out on iOS, so I'm hoping the Vita version won't be far off...
Duke Nukem 3D Megaton edition - Went for certification on the 19th of May, and been quiet ever since. Hope there aren't any snags.
1001 Spikes - Any word on the EU release?

I love everything about the game except for the controls, which is unfortunately a deal breaker. At least I still have Portable 3.

Anyone know how big Chrono Phantasma is?
3.2 GB.

I use custom and scale it (keeping the aspect ratio) until there is just a little bit of black on the right and left side.

I can't stretch the games... It just looks so awful.

Sometimes I play 1:1 mode if it's a pixel art game like Castlevania:SOTN or something

Yeah, I think that works well.

BTW, it can't be said enough, FF9 is so good.

What? Goddammit. Is everyone else just not as important as Japan? Do we not buy equal if not more software when it's released simultaneously? Or is it that bull that Marvel likes to pull where they let hype build up in other countries before releasing in America?

That's not how it works. Localizing a game takes time. They're not releasing it outside Japan later just to be jerks, you know?

Nintendo doesnt seen to have problem releasing games worldwide sameday. They're jerks.

Atlus still makes games for the Japanese audience in mind. The foreign market is an added bonus handled by a separate team at Atlus USA. You can't compare it with how Nintendo works, who has a worldwide focus, and a more integrated communication between its branches.

Besides, Nintendo definitely does not do worldwide releases for every game. Fire Emblem Awakening took a while. Most games that require a large localization effort will take a while (the last Pokémon was an exception though).

I will consider it. If it ever goes on sale I'll most likely buy it. But since it seemingly won't, I'm safe.

Yeah, I know localizing is a massive time sink and requires untold amounts of effort (even freaking Final Fantasy does it), but these are rhythm games (and an action game) I'm talking about. Change the lyrics, menus, text, some dubbing,I lots of other things I can comprehend, boom. Done. It's not an RPG or something with branching dialogue paths with a jacked up script editor. And if they got their localizing studios involved with the making of the game, they'd could get them out so much faster (though presumably Atlus starts that process when that stuff is finalizing). I want to feel that day and date Japan x English releases would give them more money.

If you go to the Freedom Wars Import OT you will see that apparently the game is quite story focused, so that may be a reason. Other reason is that they may want to put in on Fall in order to give us filthy Vita users some "big game".

I agree that rythm games could be released worldwide like 3-4 weeks after the Japanese one (since it's just a couple of words + some QA)

For JRPGs, most games don't have worldwise releases. Heck, even Final Fantasy mainline titles launch in Japan 3-4 months before America/Europe.

But reality is the complete opposite, by artificially delaying the game in Japan until they are done with the localization, they would be missing on potential sales.

Opportunity cost.

You're also underestimating the localization effort for this game. Just because it's a rhythm game doesn't mean it can be localized in a single day. It probably has a full story mode, and then there's also the dubbing.

Atlus is the only company to ever region lock a PS3 game. They're very much afraid of reverse importation. A $40 US release of Persona 4: DAN launching the same week as a $70 JP release will have them counting missing dollars.

Which is only right, but as always, will just mean more lax Vita owners will pass on it because they have to buy whatever big console releases and franchises are out in the fall and holiday season... then in January or so, when some belated indie game I want to buy gets a new trailer, IGN commenters will say "Sony needs to release some real games... I haven't even turned my Vita on since [Borderlands 2]"

Finally got a 64gb card for my Vita. Been waiting for this for a long time.
Now comes the slow process of transferring all of my games over and finally starting P4G which I'd been putting off till I got a memory card, I've got no excuses now

Unluckily some games just disappeared. VVVVVV, BoI and La Mulana are not too far away in NA, but here in europe they'll share the same fate of games like Dragon Fantasy(just released in europe, NA release was over a year ago) Mutant Mudds(6+ months since it's out in NA and still no news for europe) and 1001 Spikes. Renegade Kid and Nicalis are the absolute worst when it comes to get the games in europe.

Duke Nukem is sharing the same of fate of Munch's Oddysee HD instead as it's in certification since forever.
While we're here, Joe Dangers disappeared as well. They're in development at Munch's Oddysee HD team (Foor Door Lemon)

ugh amazon are being arses.

Seems like they killed my old US account, refuse to sell me a US PSN code via amazon.com using my UK account saying they can only be sold in America; and when I created a new US account and try to purchase a $50 PSN credit they're checking security which can take up to 4 hours.

Looks like maybe I won't be getting the US version of TLOU afterall.

I haven't turned on PS4 since Resogun.

Puddle
Platforms: PS4
Format: Digital
Crossbuy: Yes
Price: Estimating $9.99 (PSV is $7.99 and PS3 is $9.99)

This game came out in early 2012 for the PS3 (with Move support) and then came to the PSV about 6 months later. Now the physics-based, liquid-guiding puzzler is coming out of the PS4, with what I would hope are updated visuals. Ask the EU people how it is -- it came out in their territory already, I believe.

Cross buy? Cool. Now do I want to play this again? My memory of the PS3 version is:

Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, YES!

Eugh fuck Nicalis. Seriously. REALLY hoping this isn't the case for BoI and Ed McMillen pushes them on it, Rebirth's my most anticipated Vita title hands down.

Ugh, being reminded of Duke Nukem 3D for Vita, kills me every time I see it without any indication of it being released.

Same with Ratchet Collection for Vita..comes out in Europe tomorrow but no word on the NA version. Although videos have come out and it looks like a pretty good port.

Yoshida clarified his Vita Polygon comments as saying less first party games doesn't mean zero. He then goes on to list the same three Vita games we've known about for over a year (OreShika, Freedom Wars, and Murasaki Baby) alongside some ports with no hint of there being notable future announcements.

The problem with Freedom Wars is that the online mode is not yet in the game. It's supposed to be patched in during the summer so as long the online mode isn't in don't expect to see the game in English. No way they will sell this without online in the west.

There also no dub for the game too so that should speed up the localization efforts.

And let's be honest, it won't be a " big Fall game" anyway. No one buy Vita games in the west.

I don't see how a lack of English voice acting aids SCE localizations. Soul Sacrifice probably had a shorter length between JP release and NA/EU than Freedom Wars will. SS has a dub.

Yaaaay Japanese games...

At this point, the option to not do any voice is probably all that's going to get us some localizations at all anymore.

I was thinking with Freedom Wars, someone said on twitter that the game will recognize and speak the name you give your character (even English), which is a cool feature... depending on how that was done, it might be best to just leave it be, but hearing your name and not being able to make anything else in the speech out will probably counteract whatever phonetic enjoyment it gave the original audience. I guess it'll at least have that "hey i recognize that word" nani effect.

You are a proud Vita owners. You should be inmune to Sony and media outlets comments XD

To be honest we didn't know Oreshika was coming until 2-3 months ago. Most thought Sony wasn't going to bother with it.

There is a small dedicated audience, so the niche publishers keep their stuff comming. Sony releasing it as the "big Fall game" is damage control imo.

Didn't know about the slowdown issue when playing FF9 on Vita/PSP, there's a microsecond slowdown every time a spell is used. It's mostly noticeable because of the slowdown in the music.

Eugh fuck Nicalis. Seriously. REALLY hoping this isn't the case for BoI and Ed McMillen pushes them on it, Rebirth's my most anticipated Vita title hands down.
Since Rebirth is going to be a PS Plus freebie I really hope Sony is pushing them with the Playstation versions here in Europe.
Or else I'll get the PC version and wait for a sale.

They can't even label it as a big game if they don't even dub it :S

I don't think it matters much when they release it. Maybe they could use it as a launch game for the Vita TV but outside of this possibility it's not like the game is guaranteed much success.

I have no issues with a text only localization if the localization and its programming are good. Tales of Hearts R's localization for now appear to be really poor since the text doesn't properly express what is said by the characters and they didn't add subtitles for when the characters speak after and during fights. Text is weirdly aligned in dialog boxes too since there's a huge blank space at the bottom of each box.

My problem with Freedom Wars is I don't care for hunting games anymore.
It looks awesome but not for me.

Thankfully there's Oreshika which looks more up my alley.

You'd hope so wouldn't you. It certainly seems more popular and desired than 1001 Spikes, but then again Cave Story had quite the following.

Did SCE really confirm that Freedom Wars won't have a dub? Or is everyone just assuming that because all the English trailers have had only Japanese voices so far?
