First thing I thought when watching on TV

"Why is Klinsmann yelling at me :("

WC is a time for peace, there are enough problems going on here where I live. I don't hate anyone here.

Although aren't they in the same team as Balo? He is a mixed bag to me. Sometimes I think he is good other times I think he is an asshole.

Both. Admire the player, hate the man.

Hahaha! Come on Belgium!! We are in the quarterfinals!!

USA played bravely, but you guys should keep playing your own sports! It's funny, 11 million defeated 300+ million. Pretty glad that all the Team USA bullshit is over now.

BTW, Courtois is better than Howard, who played the game of his life.

stupid juniors keep being stupid. Didn't realise this was a war.

And unlike Belgium we can like more than one sport at time. Wrap your head around that one.

America failed because it doesnt care about soccer. If it had anywhere near the following of football, baseball, hockey, or even basketball, there would be enough talent generated and distilled to produce a worthwhile team.

You could say that about any country... if they cared more they would do better. It's pointless.

Your dumb if you think we put in the same investment into football than we do other sports. More than dumb actually.

Hopefully we can get more involvement these next two years. Horward had a much better game btw.

I think we Belgians deserved to say that after all that god awful American patriotism haha. Belgium only waffles? Think again.

I still don't get how you believe it was a solid overall effort. If Howard didn't show his absolute brilliance with those blocks, then we would have ended up 10-0. It was only one solider fighting in the battlefield while other just kept watching.

They did the best they could against a good Belgium team = Solid effort. They kept them at bay for 93+ minutes, had their chances to win it, and defended well enough to keep it close.

We could play your hypothetical game all day long and say it could have been this, it could have been that, but at the end of the day it was 0-0 after 93. 2-1 in FT. So like I said, a solid effort.

Again one good play does not excuse absolute dogshit play from him. He was terrible in every single game the U.S. played in the world cup, and I don't give a shit if he made one good assist. The man had trouble retaining the ball, and making simple three foot passes the entire game. How many times did he give the possession away to Belgium in this game? He kept doing it over and over and over again.

He's has zero protection - players around him that were sitting too deep and he's being ask to do a job he's not suited for. But for his range of passing how in the world are you going to drop him.

And if so who comes in for him? You have to take the flaws with the vision. This guy played for ROMA I think Klinsman can find a better system for him.

US creativity from midfield was zero, expect for Yedlin and Bradley with that final ball to Green. Not good enough.

That's actually the reason Italy is out.

It really is guys.

Jezus christ what a game! Howard MVP, and deservedly so!

So glad we held it together in the end. Proud to be Belgian atm!

Stick to watching the sport depicted in your avatar.

Pic pls.

Cool. I should probably start following a little bit of MLS this year just to actually be able to talk about it.

Another cool thing is that he will be playing in São Paulo FC (my team) till MLS season starts. That's when exactly?
March-October.

FWIW, USL Pro games all stream live on YouTube if you want to familiarize yourself with Orlando City.

The best United States athletes don't play soccer. I have a feeling until it starts becoming a trend the US are always going to be underdogs.

I think we Belgians deserved to say that after all that god awful American patriotism haha. Belgium only waffles? Think again.

And I said many WC threads ago that the overly patriotic posts should be tuned down. But does no one listen to me? Nooooooooooo everyone's a fucking idiot.

Btw I never said anything about waffles or posted bald eagle pictures. I'm actually an American thats played football for half his life and knew the teams limitations. Don't put the stupid posts by the fellow countrymen (often done ironically and in jest, although overdone) on me.

I enjoyed watching these games. Are MLS games usually this good? Or close? I know NY is getting a new club soon and I'll give an effort to follow them because following the premiere league is difficult.

Its a primarily USA forum, what do you expect. "Team USA bullshit" is kinda an immature way to put it.

Football will always be closer to home than soccer. American Football has established teams, history, cultural significance, and is an embedded part of our culture. Soccer is just now in it's infancy in terms of building that, so it's not rocket surgery to figure out why it's more popular.
History that's really only existed in the last fifty years.

There's an obvious quality drop, but MLS has been rapidly growing over the years along with the quality. It's very watchable.
