Hahaha! Come on Belgium!! We are in the quarterfinals!!

USA played bravely, but you guys should keep playing your own sports! It's funny, 11 million defeated 300+ million. Pretty glad that all the Team USA bullshit is over now.

BTW, Courtois is better than Howard, who played the game of his life.

Belgians pls learn to be gracious winners...

As if using the population comparison is fair considering the percentage of people that play the sport..

I don't actually know much about Italian teams, I would have to see some of those before choosing one.

Look at those fine gents, do you want to be as cool as them? Well you know who to support then.
You already hate me though ;(

Bradley is one less extra touch away from greatness. Every match he had so many opportunities that if he got the ball out from under his feet one touch earlier he would have connected some brilliant plays. I still think he has great vision. Maybe it was the nerves, but it killed me to see him squander play after play with one too many touches or hesitation.

Well donw USA. I'm damn proud of you. You didn't deserve to win the WC this year but that is ok. Keep building. Let's hope Green turns out to be as phenomenal as he looked in his brief USA career.

There's truly a defense force for everything, even Michael Bradley.

Dude cracked under the pressure of the big stage. You can't deny that.

You realize i don't care ? Also the over patriotism of americans annoys me, and not just in football. Actually the football side of it is the less annoying part of it.

I'm just happy to see the USA dreams crushed by Belgium.

Somebody needs a freedom tickle.

America failed because it doesnt care about soccer. If it had anywhere near the following of football, baseball, hockey, or even basketball, there would be enough talent generated and distilled to produce a worthwhile team.

America didn't fail per se. I think they did the best they could with what they had but if they don't develop and put more money into it is going to be hard to beat the top dogs at the international level.

I'll say it again..

US fans, support the MLS if you expect us to do better in 4 years.

TV, Merch, Tickets, etc.. = Money going into Academy's and growing the league to improve the quality.

The season is in week 17 and players like Dempsey, Yedlin, Bradley etc.. will be returning.

Pretty much this. Sometimes it isn't the prettiest, but it definitely has it's charms. There are lots of interesting clubs to follow despite the outsider perspective on it's quality. And the quality can't improve without dollars continuing to flow in.

I would still maintain that England played better in their first two games than USA did, England were just playing tougher competition. But that's neither here nor there. My point was that you can't compare teams across groups.

Germany?
Germany is already in the group and I said not many. Very few countries would dominate in that group (replacing USA). Certainly not England.

Kompany's a classy dude.

Never mind that none of our top, or even second tier, athletes play soccer. They're all in the NFL or NBA.

This conversation pops up every time, and it's the wrong way to look at it. Would Iniesta or Xavi have made it in the NFL or NBA? If we just had the same approach to cultivating talent but better athletes we'd be no better than what we have.

I got to give props to the USA team, i didn't root for you but man you guys have heart.

At the end of the match i wouldn't mind if you won.

They need to be a lot more effective in scoring.
On the other hand, they probably can't play this open against the Argentines.... Though they don't seem to be in great shape.
But give Messi some space, and you're done.

Definitely need to improve their finishing. Though they were quite clinical in the group stages. I think it was nerves.

Messi is looking ominous.

I can't wait to see them compete in the Euros in 2016. They're definitely in their golden age right now which is why I don't feel bad about losing to them.

Yes! They will continue to improve

Your dumb if you think we put in the same investment into football than we do other sports. More than dumb actually.

Hopefully we can get more involvement these next two years. Horward had a much better game btw.

OR Messi's father...

Pic pls.

No idea, it's a new team. The team has been tearing up the lower level league, but who knows how they'll do against MLS proper.

They absolutely dominate USL Pro. Not sure how much that means though.

I think they'll be decent, and the fan support should be great. Kaka was also a very exciting signing for them.

Cool. I should probably start following a little bit of MLS this year just to actually be able to talk about it.

Another cool thing is that he will be playing in São Paulo FC (my team) till MLS season starts. That's when exactly?

Again one good play does not excuse absolute dogshit play from him. He was terrible in every single game the U.S. played in the world cup, and I don't give a shit if he made one good assist. The man had trouble retaining the ball, and making simple three foot passes the entire game. How many times did he give the possession away to Belgium in this game? He kept doing it over and over and over again.

It wasn't one good play. He was doing it the entire game. Sure he had a few miscue passes, but overall he was much better than in the group stage.

The point still stands, and it was a solid effort overall today. Howard kept us in it of course, and we had our chances to send Belgium home. If you don't think US Men's Soccer is on the upswing the last two cups, then you can't see the forest for the trees.

I still don't get how you believe it was a solid overall effort. If Howard didn't show his absolute brilliance with those blocks, then we would have ended up 10-0. It was only one solider fighting in the battlefield while other just kept watching.

Look man, I supported the US team throughout this, but you can't just claim this, just do it.

If they invest in a proper football team then we can talk about this but it's kind silly to say things like that now.

I agree that they could probably produce a much better team but bringing stuff like that up after losing is well...

WC is a time for peace, there are enough problems going on here where I live. I don't hate anyone here.

Although aren't they in the same team as Balo? He is a mixed bag to me. Sometimes I think he is good other times I think he is an asshole.

No, first of all you guys didn't fail, you did well and played in a way you should be proud. Secondly your team did care, otherwise you wouldn't have played so well despite your limitations. Hold your head up high US, football's amazing and it's the only sport that truly spans the globe.

Next March is when the team opens it's doors for the first time, along with the new NYC team and David Villa.
