Aiii

So not worth it
If you have watched the game there is somethig like parking the bus and having an open field, Belgium went halfway between parking the bus and open field by having 3 men man marking Messi, that gave higuaine the space to score one goal and hit the bar on another. If Messi doesnt score , the men needed to mark him down will allow others to. Its a lose lose scenario for Netherlands. He got through 3 defenders and was tackled by the 4th vs Belgium, if you have 3 defenders on Messi that leaves 2 possible defending others and rest in front , if Argentina doesnt park the bus themselves the presence of
Messi creates havoc for all formations unless its 5-4-1

There is absolutely no need to have three defenders on Messi, put Vlaar on him one on one and have the other defenders cover the field and I am confident they can keep him at bay long enough for our offense to build a lead.

In the end it all comes down to who scores more and I don't see Argentina's offense being any more threatening in this next game than ours is.

I can not see the defense from The Netherlands being worse in comparison to Iran or Bosnia. It is actually much better.

Dutch defence is being underrated. The only quality defensive team this WC is Germany, though.

Germany's defence is not that great either, but Algeria, Ghana and even France did not succeed in punishing them for the mistakes they made in the back.

Awesome, we had something similar in Holland last World Cup. Feels weird tho, celebrating losing. Now they said they're only going to organize something if they win.

i think holland and brazil will start the game kicking out at the opponents star players.
messi and muller should get prepared for more ankle stamping.
i am surprised at argentina playing clean football so far.

Germany seemed much better defensivly vs France with Lahm and Hummels playing in the back 4.

Can't wait to see Costa Rica's return

Those guys deserve whatever reception they get, say what you like about their tactics and priorities, but I'm a huge fan of any team that puts in such an effort

Yes, the thing is that, Colombia had never gone so far, Brasil had to win, in some senses, Colombia already had. They aren't celebrating, they are celebrating their achievement! We had a great boost of world image thanks to them, we owe them.

Haha can't help but laugh at the foreign media that are salty about the fact that Krul did what he did during the PK kicks, calling it unprofessional and whatever.

It was. he was being a prick. these guys just left their blood on the pitch for 120 hard fought minutes and while he was sitting on the bench because he wasn't good enough to be the first choice keeper. but hey, mind games. they don't matter—but when they work, the media hails you as a genius.

don't get me wrong, he was totally right to maximize his chances of winning and put his country through. but I doubt him talking a little shit changed the outcome of the shootout (CR already taking one shootout put them at a HUGE disadvantage since they'd have records of which way they went in previous shootout so they lost out on any potential surprise advantage)

It's all part of the game, but I'm sure it's frustrating to feel like after 120 minutes of busting your ass, some trash talker comes fresh off the field and acts like he's the ultimate player.

That said, that's part of the game and it was smart. No reason not to do it, but I'm sure it's no fun as a player that's been on the field the entire time.

Well, what Krul did sure as hell didn't hurt, so why not try to talk a little shit? It's part of the game and it's not illegal, plus a top player should be able to handle the pressure.

Being pricks in situations like those is what separates a contender team from the rest. The Netherlands have had a lot of years of experience to learn this...

Brazil losing Neymar will be detrimental to their game against Germany, mainly because they need someone with that energy to get past German defenders and cause havoc to their organizational play. The other Brazilian players haven't really dazzled me this time.

I always thought players trashed each other all the time in the field. Wasn't that the reason of Zidane's famous head tackle? This is nothing new.

Is telling them that he knows which corner they are going to shoot in trash talking? It's all mindgames and you can see him shaking hands and hugging the CR players after the shootout, so it's all part of the game.

It reminded me of Jerzy Dudek vs AC Milan

I do wonder how these guys trash talk to each other, In english? Because I don't think that has the same effect than your native language, and Costa Ricans sure as hell won't understand dutch and the others won't spanish.

if its not against the rules then you can use it and there is nothing wrong with it. Costa Rica wanted penalties.. they got them. Your also gonna say its unfair if a penalty kicker acts like hes gonna shoot left but in the end shoots right? Its deceiving!

When cr went to penalties vs Greece they sent all their kicks on the top left or top right, something which is impossible for a keeper to get at that position, all their kicks were very low on the ground which is stoppable if the keeper goes down in the right direction

Ruiz the guy who missed played in Holland. So Krul talked Dutch to him. He can understand

I just think the concept of someone who's been sitting on the bench all match long, all tournament long, talking shit is prick-ish. to be honest, it's more pathetic than it is unsportsmanlike.

as I said before, don't think it had any impact on the result of the shootout. very difficult to win consecutive shootouts because you lose information advantage.

Well thats not true. How many times Costa Rica shooted at goal? I readed it was 6 shots and 1 on goal. So Cillesen had to come in action 1 time. Krul had to come in action.. i forgot how many penalties but thats more then 1 time. Even field players, sure they run a lot but how many deciding dribbles they make? Krul knew beforehand that he was the penalty kicker. He did his job well. Its not easy to keep your mind focused and cool during such. And yes the trash talk can help because its a minds game. All these players should be able to score from 11 meter. Why they miss?

I only watch soccer when the World Cup rolls around, and always seem to forget how bad the diving is this sport. At this point, I'm starting to accept when guys launch themselves into the air after being contacted to make sure they draw a penalty.

But the guys that drop and roll around on the grass like they've lost a limb when the replay shows there was no contact at all still piss me off, that should be a red card if the ref has a good view.

The Dutch seem to just fall into the first category, so I'm a little more tolerant of it.

They are programmed to dive because if they don't dive, the fouls would go unnoticed.

Some guys are really theatrical such as neymar. Those are the ones we hate
