Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. How does one start on the path to be like them?

Then how do you know they are real?

The exciting archaeology adventure stereotype all originated in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark, everything since has been a take off on that. And Lucas who created the character said he realized archaeology is nothing in the slightest like what Indiana Jones is.

This idea of yours of going off on adventure after the Special Forces has no basis in reality...

There are vast stretches of untouched jungle and dessert to explore. I will make it, trust me. All it takes is the will of one man.

Start From The Bottom in Houstalantavegas, then you gotta Find Your Love. Take Care for a Little Bit. After that just be on your Worst Behavior and go 0 to 100. After that Monica We Made It.
When your Successful you can Thank Me Later, Nothing Will Be The Same after that.

I am already in the process of enlisting and going Special Forces (Where I will be a medic.)
So no need for doctors when im off in the jungle. (Research SF 18D they are walking hospitals) Next I will grab a BS in archaeology before moving to to a bigger Uni to grab a masters. While traveling as well. I will be playing poker and gambling so money won't be an issue.

Travelling the world and searching for historical stuff and ancient civilizations and treasure. That's what I want to do.

Realize that they are just fictional characters and that archeology is a low-paying slow boring thing that requires many years of schooling?

First you want to steal the Cross of Coronado from a group of violent mercenaries. Then you should board a circus train to elude them, and eventually make a daring/confusing escape while in the caboose. Then, when you get home, just make sure your dad will force you to turn over the cross when the sheriff comes.

That'll pretty much set you on the path.

You have this all planned.

Don't let nobody stop you.

Wait...you are serious? You realize in real life this job is not glamorous at all and is mostly 60 year old college professor types dusting old broken pots?
I find that an outdated stereotype. You get a wide variety of people of varying ages and different skill sets. There are plenty of Jago Cooper types out there as well as John Romers.

That is because they don't have the drive nor the funding.
It's incredibly difficult to get such funding. To be frank, you have to be quite exceptional, have good solid references and have a decent body of work in your portfolio.

To go back to my previous example; Jago was approached by the BBC, specifically producers from BBC4 about fronting the series I mentioned in my previous post. After a long negotiation period, and lots of hurdles, a budget was agreed and a date set for filming, and the rest is history. It was a success and they commissioned another series fronted by Jago that aired just recently dealing with the Rapa Nui. It may not be rare, but such opportunities are extremely hard to come by and Jago is an exceptional talent. To be a curator at the British Museum at his age is a fine achievement and his body of work is well regarded. There are other examples out there. But securing such deals on the whole is difficult. Of course TV isn't for everyone, but it's something to consider.

May I ask if you are multilingual? If not, consider adding another language or two to your repertoire.

3Sixty can be your financial backer
Viva will use his law degree and knowledge of the Middle East and Islamic culture to get you on the right path
dc will turn up looking for the same treasure a couple of months after you've taken it

Don't forget to provide us with your betting tips while you're out there.

You mean treasure hunting shit? Or starting a career as a soft artist who takes his inspiration from 808's and heartbreak?

If you mean the former, passports out the ass, deep connections, and skills in thievery.

OP, you should read this book:

Kelly McEvers with the story of Zora, a self-made superhero. From the time she was five, Zora had recurring dreams in which she was a 6'5" warrior queen who could fly and shoot lightning from her hands. She made a list of all the skills she would need to master if she wanted to actually become the superhero she dreamed of being. Sample items: Martial arts, evasive driving and bomb diffusion. She actually checked off most things on the list...and then had a run-in with the CIA.

They are fictional characters not real people. Might as well start a thread asking how you become Aragorn, descendent of the Dunedain and the rightful heir to the throne of Gondor.

Yes I'm learning Portuguese, then I will learn Spanish and re-learn Dutch. I will film everything myself like Surviorman and release on youtube if that's still around in 15 years. BBC will be knocking down my door soon enough.

First you study archaeology, which is a real science. Then you realize that Nathan Drake and Indiana Jones are fictional characters. Then, after someone hands you a toothbrush and tells you to start brushing a sandpit for hours on end, you realize the romanticized version of archaeology is just that.

The day of the tomb raider is over.

OP, you type well despite being drunk. Kudos!

What did you think the deception was in the first place?

Uncharted 3 spoilers:
Actually, come to think if it you're right, lol. He took his name from Sir Francis Drake.

Oh man, I share the dream! But it's a dream, not reality. The problem is, once you start university, you'll realize archeology is a lot of time in the library and heckling for funding. There is some exploration no doubt though. The kind of life you're looking for is more akin to the one of smugglers who resell pieces of Cambodian temples.

Regarding the Nazis and their quest for treasure, this documentary will help bring you back to reality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q2bLQZ3a5k

First and foremost you need to be able to wield a whip.

Come back when you get good at slinging that around and we will move onto step 2.

There is geological evidence that The land mass Atlantis would have existed. That is part of my quest too.

Isn't Nathan Drake technically a thief? A well-learned thief for sure but still a thief.

Also, rreal-life archeology isn't that exciting imo. Being a tour guide would be more fun, I think, if travelling is all you want to do.

This. You don't need to pursue a career in archaeology, but in heists. You'll probably die or go to prison though.

Watch the doc. There has been geological evidence for ever. There will always be evidence because the story of Atlantis is so vague, it can be applied to anything.

I'll give you that the jungles of South America are still full of pyramids. That's one cool quest. Oh and apparently, China has some too but they're hiding them.
