Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. How does one start on the path to be like them?

This is pretty sweet OP. Good that you are doing it for the prestige only, as you shouldn't expect any tropies for your work. And if you do get something it might take years. You should expect some harsh competition with much larger pockets, so don't let your findings slip away, you know. As money might be an issue and you'll have to spend more than you are planning to, dollar for dollar. All in all keep at it, arm yourself with an arsenal of knowledge and skills and good luck to ya.

hiro, why do you only ask about indy and drake, though? is lara croft not a viable role model? do you have something against female archeologists?

Well there goes my fools errand joke straight out the window.
It was going over my head and has bonked me square on the noggin.'

I think the OP is tag fishing but who knows how crazy he is. There was a recent story (I thought on radiolab but couldn't find) of a lady that wanted to basically become super spy-type from an early age. She makes a list of skills she need to acquire.
She spends her teens and early twenties learning all sorts of survival skills, weapons training, and electronics. Applies to CIA and is eventually declined, or requested to reapply at a later date, and then goes on to work for a private security/intelligence firm.

I wonder how many have already set-out on this fool's errand, for the lance?

I'm confused. Title says Lara Croft. Drake isn't even mentioned.

Original thread title said Drake. That's why so many people on the first page brought up the rapper Drake since not everyone understood he meant Nathan Drake. A mod changed it.

Edit: beaten like dc

Well there's four or five claims to be the holy lance off of the top of my head. I assume like other things of its nature many would have searched for it as long as they were aware of its supposed existence.

This is topic is like the one about Heath Ledger's casting as The Joker. Can't wait for this thread being revived in 15 years and everyone laughs at us for doubting hiroshawn...

The more hiroshawn posts the more I believe he's honestly genuine

I remember during the first week of my first year in Archaeology, we had a lecture about how wrong archaeology and "treasure hunts" are portrayed in movies and how we shouldn't expect out future lives to be anything like Indiana Jones.
Well, it only lasts for 1h where the prof explains how the real world actually works but EVERY year, you have about 15 to 30 guys giving up the following day.

My point is, I've seen dozens of guys dreaming about this kind of life for no other reasons than the Indiana Jones trilogy. But I don't think I ever saw someone as delusional as OP seems to be if he isn't a troll. I hope for his sake that he is.

Bingo, while the digs I went on were interesting during my degree, the washing of thousands of shards of pottery got old fast. Then after I left uni and realised in the real world archaeology paid squat all, and there were not many opportunities around (unless you have crazy hair and everything is aliens or Atlantis) I went back and did computer science.

There's good stuff there undoubtedly, the underwater archaeology images are great, but all I can think of is the weeks and months of work after that photo of removing silt, documenting everything etc etc.

Now I just read about it.

Archaeologist guest lecturer did tell us about his chopper being shot at in Guatemala.

But, hell, anyone can get shot at.
