Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. How does one start on the path to be like them?

Please go get a degree in archaeology and go on carefully preplanned digs, don't barge into historically and culturally important sites and screw everything up. Thanks.

pretty sure joining special forces still won't get you enough funding for what you're planning

you're better off ignoring all the academics part and just dive straight into the action part, hire an academic/go to libraries for all the research stuff

i'm pretty sure treasure hunters still exist in this day and age, your best bet would be finding shipwrecks imo, i bet there are still tonnes of gold buried under the sea

maybe find one, get your name out there and hope for some evil mastermind/rich dude to hire you

Special Forces will give me the fighting and cultural skills that will help me on the expeditions. There is also a Special Forces diving course that I plan to take.

I plan on doing a lot of things. If I know anything about life, it's that life doesn't care.

You don't in such a fictional manner.

But in the real world it takes years of study and field work, but with enough hard work, passion for your chosen area of expertise and talent you can achieve some semblance of that globetrotting, adventuring ideal that you strive for.

Take Dr Jago Cooper for example;

Most recently traveled throughout South America for his Lost Kingdoms of South America series and just last year fronted a documentary about Easter Island.

Watch this documentary. Does it invoke something in you? Then pursue a career in archeology. Sounds easy, but it's not, believe me.

This is great :) thank you

If you have anything more that's similar please let me know

Go to school and get a degree.
Then get a Master's.
Then get a Ph.D.

Voila.

In all seriousness, every school's anthro/archeo department has digs it participates in. When I was at Michigan State University, my wife and I got to know a professor who participates in an annual dig site in Israel. So we went with him one summer and dug for stuff. We found lots of cool stuff. Roman coins, pottery, caskets, landmines (it was used as a military base recently), etc. Great experience, loved it. So do that. I probably won't check this thread again, so PM me if you have any questions.

I can feel you, OP (even if it sounds like you're just trolling, heh). The whole "indiana Jones" stuff is so interesting and somewhat romantic in an adventurer way. If I could do something like that, I'd go for it.

Alas, archeology takes up way too long and in reality it's mostly studying books and stuff. Still interesting, but...

In 4 days I'm going to India for 3 weeks, so that will be the closest I get to that kind of adventure for a while :P

Great post. I will continue to update this thread. My first step will be enlisting and getting into SF and learning languages.

Studying books is an adventure in itself. I can spend days in the library researching history, and that's just for my pleasure. Imagine when I have skills money and acces to private collections.

Looks good. You planning to modify it at all?

It's a rugged off road RV. I may have to remove the kitchen so I can put in instruments and work stations. What I really want. Is optical camo for the exterior (Should be available in 15 years, they have prototypes now) so the RV can blend in with the suroundings.

Are you prepared to fight the undead? And Nazis? More importantly undead Nazis? If so then you're already on the path to enlightenment.

Just like everyone else said, get a degree in Archeology bro.

Good thinking. Also, I saw an episode of Top Gear once where they turned a normal van into a boat. With your special forces skills, I think you could easily modify the RV into a submarine to help explore Atlantis.

I dont know if you are drunk or what but i have a piece of advice for you.

Stop trying to plan your whole life and every little detail of it. Have a general idea of what you want and go from there.

Life doesnt care about your plans. Start with little goals, your special forces thing is great, go from there. After you are done with it take the next step

Seriously bro, you got your fucking method of transportation(and base holy shit) planned out. This is unhealthy.

Become proficient at the following:

- Revolvers and assorted handguns

- Shotguns and rifles

- Bows and arrows

- Navigation

- Survival in hostile environments

- Shooting first.

- Sex

- Languages

- Cartography

- Mythology

- History

- Blackmail

- Surviving in prison

- Absolving conscience of murder

- Instilling fear in the enemy

i was about to say this dude is even more impressionable than yo ass bruh

He can be my sidekick/fall guy.

QUICK, IS THERE ANYONE ON THIS DIG WHO CAN SUPLEX THAT PRICELESS AND FASCINATING FRAGILE ANCIENT STATUE BEFORE IT GETS US??

To be fair there are people like Lara Croft in the real world BUT with the exception being that most aren't bored rich people looking for some adventure rather they are looking to steal things and sell them on the black market. Lara is like one of those people on Discovery Channel who like to travel to the harshest places in the world just because she can. Also, if word got out that there was indeed such a thing as magical artifacts protected by traps you can bet your ass there would be lots of people looking to make a quick buck

I've always hated those goddamn movies. When a white person takes something from some ruins it's "Archaeology" but when a black man does it it's "Looting".

Good luck Parley Prince, I think a good place to start your expedition would be searching London for the rare and deadly Gunnersaurus.

Nonono, you got that backwards. When you illegaly remove a priceless artifact from its site to bring it to a museum it's called archeology. If you do the same to sell it on the Black market it's looting.

The difference? A few million $$$. Dat movie logic.

Every archaeology student in the world has this exact dream, OP.

You can find most of the graduates working at your local 7-eleven.

I have no idea but if you manage to become something like that can I be your buddy like the one who knows shit about archeology and stuff but gets you weapons and airplanes and shit and has that smirky attitude like "I hate this job lol" thank you

Why don't you go find the lance of Longinus OP?
There are a few groups that claim to have it. A lot of faux religious artifacts show-up all over the World. They are good for attracting religious pilgrims and their money, and also make for an authoritative "you have earn the right to this reveal" secret society shenanigans. The lance that the Roman Loginus [stabbed Christ with] is thought to be added to the account of the Crucifixion. In the earliest versions, Jesus wasn't on the cross long enough to have died - it takes days. Later accounts have Jesus being impaled on the cross. There is even a bit of this shown in, I think, Roman Catholic crucifixes, they have Jesus on the cross with the wound from the lance. Some denominations just have the cross with no Jesus but the point is that the lance is arguably not a real object. I think there is discrepancy somewhere between Mathew, Mark, and Luke too but I honestly don't remember all the details.
