Brazil was trashed because they wanted to compensate Neymar's absence by going all out attacking in the first minutes. That's why I find amusing the prediction that Argentina will get trashed in the same way because they were too defensive last night.

Germany still seems to be the better team, but Argentina was very well set up tactically against Belgium and Netherlands, as opposed to the tactical chaos from the group games. It will be a fight.

That's not even collegiate level bad. That's, like, maybe lower division AYSO bad.

Just...I can't even fathom.

EDIT: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...jury-updates-on-germany-stars-knee-and-return

Seems like Hummels is still in the air.

The way he avoided putting Kroos (i think it was him?) offside during one of the first 2 goals was amateuristic, still can't believe they did not select Felipe Luis as left back.

Yes Germany is all round and finally has the creative players they once lacked. I see shades of both the Spanish and Dutch teams of old.

That, combined with their mentality makes them instant favourites. I'm not surprised that they're in the final. And I will even cheer for Germany. They are playing football like it should, not parking the bus, not wasting time. On top of my head they scored 16 times I think. They were also the best playing side in 2010 already, sadly cockblocked by a clinical Spain.

In the end I want to be entertained. Which is why I don't give much fucks about the Oranges leaving the stage.

I'm amazed that we were able to manage a better defence than Brazil with defenders that largely play Eredivisie football, which really deserves the label of 'Mickey Mouse competition' that many have given it these days.

That article really shows very well just how insanely bad Brazil was.

Our eredivsie boys came to the world cup and delivered. They will only grow into better players now.

Damn, i was sure we would reach the final...

Anyway, pretty proud. Vlaar is an awesome defender. He saved us many times throughout the tournament.

Crazy match, considering there were almost no chances for both teams.

Agreed. Vlaar was channeling some serious Stam-ness. He will be a rock in 4 years.,

Really disappointed the match yesterday was so bland. The teams were very even. Would've preferred if we went out with a bang in stead of PKs.

Both defenses were great and the attackers couldn't create much chances or space on either side. As soon as Vlaar took his PK I knew we were out, it should've never come to that.

Oh well, time to root for Germany.

Yes, this is why Euro 2008 will continue to be my favourite tournament for NL. Might not have lasted long, but so worth it, and so memorable.

Lots of lessons inside of her. Germans are arrogant, nobody likes us and we talk shit...but they love our Autobahnen :D

Und Bier, und Lagerbier, und Kinder Schokolade, und Oktoberfest, etc

Germany is the best, just the average German is either arrogant or cold and calculated. Unless they are drunk.

Maybe, though Messi in a good day can destroy any team.

Worshipping a great athlete is good and all, but it bothers me to hear that one guy can decide everything in a team game. Just like all the supporters saying "Argentina must win so that Messi is considered GOAT". It's not about Messi, it's about Argentina. If Messi wanted to get all the attention, he should have played tennis.

Well I dont drink that much, some people already told me I'm arrogant, but my friends tell me its fine, I#M not really cold, I just got a weird sense of humours and I'm clearly not calculated :D

The funny thing about that is Messi isn't like Maradona in this position at all. He is extremely quiet with the media, pretty humble as a player, only talking about the game and mostly pretty serious. Maradona was so arrogant and hilarious, it is why he was popular sometimes. I am not saying Messi is a great person, not making any conclusions on that, I am just saying that he takes the attention pretty well I think.

Arrogance is fun. You haven't seemed cold or calculated though. I'm not old enough to drink in the US or back in Deutschland though, so ha. I could technically have non-alcoholic beer? Mmmm.

Never ever try that stuff, it is the drink of demons.

Not if the "Maut" is coming, but even then they'll love it. I know the salt mine in here is big right now, but on Sunday, football wont die like yesterday.

What had Jogi Loew said after the game ? "Some humbleness would be good for us now". Seems true even on a game forum :P

People find it impressive when one player can elevate an entire team. That's part of the beauty of team sports. And one player can at times decide almost everything in a team game if he gets in the zone.

I don't think he wants the attention, he just gets it because he is the goat.

Messi has been involved in 7 out of the 8 goals argentina has scored. 4 goals, 1 assist, his cross caused the own goal vs Bosnia and he was heavily involved in the goal vs Belgium.

If you are surprised people are talking about him, a guy who does decide the game on his own SO many times and has been involved in nearly all of Argentina's goals, then I don't know.

With Di maria injured and the other forwards all playing like rubbish, if someone is going to win it for argentina, it would very likely be Messi.

Germany are favourites though, and should win....should.

Germany will destroy Argentina

I don't think this final is going to be as one-sided as people think it's going to be.

Germany have played some average teams by world standards and they smashed Brazil who just happened to roll over after the first couple of goals. Not many top teams wouldn't have beaten Brazil like that.

I reckon there will only be 1 or 2 goals difference in the final.

Went to bed pretty devastated yesterday but I'm over it already. I'm proud of our team. I honestly didn't see us coming this far but we did and these guys really made me believe we would make it this WC. We played as a team and I loved Van gaal's crazy tactics. I'll never forget that match against Spain or that moment when Krul started eating penalties. Truly amazing.

Congrats to Argentina. It was a tense match and if we were gonna lose, then I'm glad we lost to a strong opponent.

But I'll still be rooting for Germany :)

Pretty much exactly my thoughts!

Arrogance really is fun :-D Lots of awesome stories to tell due to arrogance :-D

So I guess I will by a new jersey after the worldcup...cant decide between Podolski (just because Im from cologne) Müller, Kroos or Hummels :D

That's true, but Alkoholfreies Weizen from Krombacher actually tastes pretty good, simply by virtue of not having that shitty taste in the back of your mouth that only non-alcoholic beers have. Actually a pretty welcome refreshment in the summer for me if I still have to drive somewhere after being back from work :D

Yep I can approve that. After cutting out almost all alcohol after some rough years after I turned 18, thats a nonalcoholic beverage thats really refreshing. Occasionally I drink some Kölsch nut not as much as in my younger years (though Im just 25 :D)

I think Netherlands walked already defeated into the PKs because Krul was not on the field. What worked perfectly against Costa Rica from the psychological point of view (bring on the field the "specialist" who was even taunting the Ticos) turned horribly against them last night. And not only for Cillessen who had thus additional pressure on him (and keepers usually don't have that much at PKs). It was like you would decide to keep Messi on the bench for an important game after he just scored a hat-trick in the previous one. It was probably also good for the Argentinian mindset.

Take a look at Klose, shape isnt that important sometimes its important just to have this guy with you for the big ones. Experience is key

He's hardly the same player as Klose who can just stand at the 6yd box and poach goals or use his height like he has done his whole career.

Robben playing the position he does and the type of player is doesn't have that luxury to keep playing at that level regardless.
