Persona4 the Golden ANIMATION: Thursdays at 12 PM (PDT), begins July 10, 2014

You needed some of this if you want to watch the first animation

I thought it was fine, not great, just ok
That episode slayed me.

Animation already looking like a nice improvement from the original anime.

Though that's really not saying much.

Only 10 minutes into this (due to CR not being able to handle the load, buffering yays...) but I'm enjoying it.

It has an assumption of you've seen the previous anime or the game but with 12 episodes, I expected that. Still enjoying it, plus I love Yu Narukami. He's being awesome as always!

Pretty good episode. Felt kinda rushed. I should probably watch the other one as well, as this one looks like it's gonna skip a bunch of stuff.

I like the Japanese voices more than I thought I would. Didn't take much time to get used to them at all.

I know most people don't like her, but Marie is awesome.

According to the "Next episode" part at the end, in the next episode there will be Kanji already. I don't remember exactly after how much time you encounter him in the game, but I don't think it was this early

Persona 4 The Golden Animation Episode 1:

I press the buttons on my controller but I can't seem to skip these blasted cutscenes. Indeed, another season, another bland Person adaptation. Anyway, yea, this series is suffering from the same problem as Tokyo Ghoul, the adaptation is stepping all of the subtly, grace and nuance from Persona 4 and leaving in its wake an exaggerated pile of bones.
Emphasis on exaggerated as that shadow battle with all the floating tongue balls is so over the top ridiculous it was almost lovely. Still, I preferred the whole team members confronting their inner selves and dealing with the unsavory aspects of their character.
Of course since this is The Golden we have to crowbar a 5 minute interlude with her and the block of wood that is Yu and basically begin the makings of making them the official coupling from the way things progressed.

Yosuke: "*gasp* WHAT THE HELL"

I'm not sure if I'm really liking this, the original series's first episode was so much better and I have a feeling that'll stay true for the rest of the series.

I have absolutely no motivation to watch this entirely based on the preview on Crunchyroll. It really feels like nothing more than Atlus just soullessly milking the P4 brand to death. At least the original P4 anime was an endearing mess (to me at least anyway)

This is literally a New Game+ season. Yu's different responses, overpowered Izanagi, and literally NO explanations. They didn't even formally introduce the party.

It felt uncomfortably rushed, but I liked how NG+-like it is. Looking forward to covering more Golden content, there's no need to spend too much time retreading what was covered in the other anime.

Just gonna quote myself:

P4GA Episode 1

-The character art looks sooooooo much better. It's great!
-Inaba is faithfully recreated. The improvements made to the various backgrounds are much appreciated.
-Slink characters in the opening, YEAH. (Adachi simping for Ai. #DEAD)
-The pace is lightning quick. There's barely any breathing room, haha
-Yu totally humiliates King Moron. Might as well consider him
dead already.
-Everyday young life at Junes-su ♪
-Yu's way less of an introvert at the beginning, this time around. I hope he's still funny
-I wish they kept things simple for Yu's awakening scene. Didn't enjoy the hilariously over the top battle sequence or the awful CG effects, for that matter.
-Unapologetically for Persona 4 Golden fans. If you haven't played Persona 4, don't bother watching.

Other stuff:
-Yu does NOT hit his head on the table this time. Success!
-Yosuke doesn't need to pee in the TV world this time. Success!
-They're pushing the Yu / Marie ship so hard.
-That's the 2nd time that Chie gets licked! I just realized they did that because she wasn't in the original scene.
Can we get an anime spinoff be about Naoto teaching criminology or w/e the hell she's doing. Please.

Finished the episode now:

It's defo for fans of the game (if they are not expecting a full adaption) or the previous anime. They will mainly be covering the new stuff from the Golden while quickly moving the main story along.

It's also New Game Plus...

Overall I liked it though. Should be a fun watch for the rest of the series. If you haven't watched the previous anime or played the game though, don't bother with this unless you don't mind a rushed and disjointed anime like this one looks to be.

Still I think it will be a fun anime to watch. So glad I finished the game (Vita ver) just a month ago now though. :D

The anime looks good, but its soooooooo rushed. Nothing for people who haven't watched Persona 4 The Animation or played the Games.

NG+ is an interesting concept in theory, and fun to play but I really dislike it narratively. What's there to honestly latch onto with a protagonist so obviously stronger than everyone and anything else, always knows the right thing to say and do, has every answer immediately, and has no apparent hang-ups or flaws. The 'action scene' is my case and point. Even compared to the original show, at least that had some degree of dramatic gravity. In Golden, it's utterly static. Izanagi floats arms-crossed while scores of lightning bolts cut through a needlessly huge swarm of bad CGI blobs. No one is in any tangible degree of danger and there's nothing dynamic about what's happening at all. Yu is just standing around looking like a dork with his hand outreached while Izanagi flaccidly and leisurely swipes through a swarm of bad-looking visual noise in the background. Who cares.

It's all a power trip. A boring one.

Needless to say, I did not like this.

Also, that bullshit that Izanagi was doing at the end, I don't even think was an actual spell. Get that shit outta there.

Just finished that first episode.
Oh my god that battle
It literally ends with an explosion
. It hurts.

Anyway, even though it's moving even faster than the first anime, it seems better paced. I'll stick for a few more episodes

Chie in a gekkoukan outfit hnnnnng

Marie so cute, man

for the ng+ shit, whatever lol. Can't wait to see how they compress this stuff not that it's a bad thing.

Hated the fight scene, so badly done. The rest of the episode was ok. I'll give another chance watching episode 2 next week.
