Persona4 the Golden ANIMATION: Thursdays at 12 PM (PDT), begins July 10, 2014

I have to echo the badly done fight scene

hate that kinda thing; tons of mooks with one thing doing the slaughtering. Might have been better if Izanagi pulled off Arrow Rain/Unlimited Blade Works first and left it there.

Cant watch till i get off work but it sounds exactly like i thought it would be. Shame we wont get another awesome kings game scene. Will still be awesome to see Marie and hopefully have some funny moments when they go
snowboarding.

Wait, Yu is an even bigger Gary Stu than he was in the original anime?

Holy shit, an entire anime dedicated to Marie basically? That sounds like a nightmare, may be a contender for one of the worst anime ever.

So... I cant find it on daisuki or aniplex (tried on their search engines and anime lists), thats where I watched Kill la Kill.
The only one is crunchyroll and apart form having to pay their spanish subs are atrocious, so that a no for me.

This is literally a New Game+ season. Yu's different responses, overpowered Izanagi, and literally NO explanations. They didn't even formally introduce the party.

Yeah, it was really fast.

I think it'd have been better if they did an "enhanced" version of the original anime instead of a rushed New Game+ version of the game.

Wait, Yu is an even bigger Gary Stu than he was in the original anime?

I loved the Yu in the old anime. Yes, he is kind of a Gary Stu character, but he doesn't talk all that much (like in the game, where he is an avatar of yourself) and when it talks it says one of the 3 posible choices you have available during the game. Seeing him unbutton his shirt in the King's game was really funny too xD

And that's cool. It's funny how they've gone with "funny Yu" for this playthrough. He has some really hilarious lines in the game. Hopefully we'll see him trolling people during Social Link time.

I loved when he sings "Everyday is great at your Junes!" with Nanako lol. I choose that same option when I lived that situation in the game.

We all should miss Yosuke peeing scene though.

Overall the series is meh, though. I don't know how much you can escalate powers if you've already used Megidolaon in the first battle (seeing how totally overpowered that last spell was I couldn't think of anything else).

I liked Marie in Golden despite her trope-iness, but this just sounds awful so far. I'll stick with my apparently poorly animated original anime, thanks (or as someone put it above, the "endearing mess").

oh who am I kidding I watched the entire Escha & Logy anime, I'll probably watch this too

Saw the whole episode and really like the changes to make this different from the original animation :).

Firstly, like the fact they changed up Yu's character in this (he has the 'nice guy' dialog set that was from the game); it makes this show give him more character and makes his interactions with everyone all the more interesting.

Secondly, the animation looks to be more consistent this time out (no more odd gradient like the original animation). It makes the whole world all the more better looking.

Thirdly, it seems that the show knows its audience if familiar with the P4 cast from the original P4/P4G/Animation (they don't bother introducing the extended cast in any meaning way and the intro-scene when Yu is on the train is a love letter to anyone who played Golden before :D).

Lastly, they are doing something interesting with Marie's character with this (as she is the 'star' of this new series). They are making her more important to the story and are more-or-less shipping her with Yu right from the start. That is interesting as the original Animation didn't have Yu like anyone (though it is impliyed they liked him), but here it seems Yu immediately takes interest in Marie. I look forward to her S. Link events and how they are implemented in this animation :D.

Also the fight scene her was really cool; swarms of Shadows just flooding the place with Yu killing them all with a clearly over-powered Izanagi (makes for a great looking scene though :D).

Can't wait for more of this :).

As someone who thinks Trinity Soul, P4A and P3M are garbage, I really liked the first episode. It's over the top and doesn't take itself too seriously, which makes it pretty entertaining. I just hope it continues to be ridiculous because I don't care about the pacing and the story.

Oh, and the art is so much better (even though there is still a lot of off-model cuts).

Is a hint for some P3 elements in this new animation? I remember you can get P3 costumes for the party in Golden but I don't know what significance those would have here.... (though some P3 cameo's during the whole School Trip section would be nice :D).

Maybe they'll hint some Persona Q stuff in the series. It'd make sense since it's supposed to be canon.

I think you're thinking too hard about it. They're costumes from Golden so... that's about it. They might have other alternate costumes as eyecatchers as the series goes on.

That makes since :l. I guess that will be the scene transitions for this show; cut to a title card of the cast waring one of the exclusive Golden costumes every episode or something...

Did you guys notice how it was Yu that (P4 spoiler)
offered his hand for a handshake to the gas station attendant?

He's like "Yeah yeah, I know what your deal is, let's just do this already!"

Ugh, man, I didn't watch it, but I'm not liking what I'm hearing. I was hoping this was going to be an improvement over the original P4 anime...

Well, it may just be the party members dressed in alternative costumes from P4G. Like, they'll have a Velvet Room attendant version, a Halloween outfit one, a Christmas outfit one, etc...

Marie 4 the HanaKana Animation.

Didn't really like it. Also HanaKana as Marie still doesn't work for me. I know it works for others but not for me. The dub they use in the game is like perfect. This is more cute than tsundere.

And hey, Persona 3.

Really stoked to hopefully watch this!

I saw a few people with guest passes earlier in the thread. If anyone still has one can they PM me?

I enjoyed it, not to mention hearing all of the songs that are in P4G being used as part of the soundtrack as well. If I don't hear Shin Mitsuo Tensei during this anime, I'm going to be disappointed.

Still, loved that over-the-top Izanagi fight, not to mention how Yu handled King Moron during the introduction.

Marie was cute, but then again, I liked her character while playing P4G.

Animation this time around was much better than the previous anime, but then again, I enjoyed that one too.

I will say I am curious to see how The Golden is going to handle the future romance possibilities given
that it is pretty obvious that in the mind of this series Marie and Yu are the one true pairing.

I think they are going to handle the Golden exclusive events as complete episodes (one for the Beach scene, one for the scooter scenes, one for the Band scene, one for the Marie S. Link,
one for the Adatchi S. Link
, re-made Cutlure Festival Episode, one for the January Month/Ski Trip,
one for Marie's Dungeon
, and one for the Valentines Day events).

I'm particularly interested on how the Marie S. Link,
Dungeon
and Valentine Episodes are going to play out; if she is the 'true' partner for Yu in this animation, then those have many ways they could play out.

The Valentines Day episode is going to be the highlight of this series though XD. I'm sure we all remember what happens to Yu if he dates all the female characters in Golden? Well, what happens if something similar to that happens here (where even though he doesn't date anyone but Marie in this series, all the female characters want him for some reason) and they make this day hell for him XD! I don't know, but that potential episode could be on the humor level of the Club scene from the original animation.

that it is pretty obvious that in the mind of this series Marie and Yu are the one true pairing.

But in my mind in it's Marie and Teddy over in that other world. Chie and Yosuke. Kanji and Naoto. Yu and Yukiko. And Minako exists. This is the true canon they don't want you to know.

I'll say that the beach scene will not be the same without Kanji screaming, "I'm ready to be born dammit!" ...in English. Granted, I have no idea how that scene sounded in the JP copy of P4G, but it was a true highlight for me.

The fight scene was ridiculous garbage and the opening was completely amazing.

That about sums up my thoughts for the episode. It was weird and not particularly good or bad. I felt like the original Persona 4 The Animation felt a lot more Persona-y though.

Yu was handshake happy throughout the episode. Also he actually brought everyone into the TV instead of the game's way.

You left out Rise!

Rise's out of town

I guess so is Yu

Alright that fits too well

So yeah you discovered the real true secret truest canon. Yukiko actually hooks up with Ken & Koro-chan pair in P4AU. It'll materialize into something a few years down the line. (I like her, but he's the only free one so I gotta put her with him. Or Fuuka. You know what she deserves better. Yukiko and Funky Student's where it's at.)

I think the main thing with this adaptation is similar to FMA Brotherhood's in that it's easier to breeze through most of the stuff you've seen from the previous adaptation and then just focus on the newer parts.

Thus we have 'Super Nice Narukami' this go-around and he takes everyone into the TV immediately versus the preparation that was in the game/previous adaptation.

Still, there were hints of swag for this Narukami while also being handshake happy.

I found the fight scene wasn't bad due to it not looking good/looking bad but it not looking like how it worked in Persona 4 :l. At least in the animation, while the character's Persona's didn't vanish after being summoned, they still used skills and attacks from the games. Here, Yu had Izanagi pull of moves never seen in Persona 4 and the fact he had Izanagi use moves WELL before it even learns them (how the hell can it learn Zyodine THAT early, how can it use heavy slash attacks (I think it was Brave Blade?) repeatedly without passing out and what the heck was that last move Isanagi used.....)

If it was more fateful to the games, then the scene would have looked amazing but....it only looks good/okay as is :l.

I'm sorry. It's probably been asked a million times already. But how do you turn on subtitles in ios version of crunchyroll?

I read some that said click the right side? I did that and nothing happened.

So apparently the anime is either skipping the first two dungeons completely(as well as the awakenings of 3 party members), or all of that is going to be condensed into the okina trip in the next episode? Cause yeah, next episode preview features scenes from mid-JUNE, and the anime's first episode ends in mid-APRIL.

I'm really not feeling any of this. ><

Really? ....I guess they figured people who are watching P4G Animation either played P4G and/or seen the original animation, so they could skip over major events covered already to focus on the new stuff they want to use :l.

I could get that they didn't have much of a budget for this (as it looks to only be 12 Episodes...hope I'm wrong), so this is most likely the best compromise (I would rather major events be skipped then they being covered so rushed that they fall appart; just watch season 1 of Legend of Korra for example X().

Still, Persona is a huge name (now it is I think...), so they should have just re-did the original animation (with the same style/re-used animations) with some new episodes thrown in (to fit within the P4G content; it could work well considering how said content was placed to make the game feel 'bigger').

In ios I think it was open the app, go to settings, change content settings to whatever language. Subtitles should be on automatically though.
