Persona4 the Golden ANIMATION: Thursdays at 12 PM (PDT), begins July 10, 2014

Ok thanks! Never used this before.

Tell me if it works or not. Usually I don't have to mess with settings much so I may have misremembered how to do it.

Also, if you want high quality, go to settings, hold your finger anywhere on the settings screen until an option called "fixed quality video" appears which you should then turn on.

Yeah that fight scene, almost died laughing at how stupid and ridiculous it was.

ATTACK OF THE KILLER TONGUE SHADOWS

What the actual fuck at that fight scene. Absolutely ridiculous, I'm used to anime taking liberties but that was way over the top. Didn't even feel like something out of Persona at all.

After how well the Persona 3 movies have handled Persona battling this is really disappointing, why does this even exist?

Im enjoying this. It's a little weird for them to speeding through the plot but the reactions from Yu and the whole new game + feeling ia entertaining.

Also I like Marie so sue me

I didn't dig the first episode of the Persona 4 Golden anime. The pacing felt off; Yu was presented as too cool; and that Izanagi scene was ridiculous. It feels...rushed?

I liked it. Though I'm HIGHLY disappointed that there wasn't a new op. >:(

EDIT: so there is a new OP and they didn't play that shit!? for shame.

Yu is too cool? stop man, we need him to stay at his super swag form until this shit is over.

Ugh, that fight scene. I don't think we needed those 4 minutes or however long it was to drive home the fact that Yu's a friggin' god. Pacing was far too quick too, but like others have said, they might be just trying to get it out of the way for Golden material.

Still enjoyed the episode though, for what it's worth.

What a weirdly paced episode. They're clearly taking liberties and making this into a NG+ sort of deal, but who is the audience here? If this show tries to appeal to both Persona 4 newbies AND veterans then there's no doubt it will flop with only 12 episodes -- Persona 4 Animation couldn't do the game justice even with two cours. Is this really just a sloppy, fast-and-loose retelling with Golden scenes? Maybe they're up to something here, ala Persona 4 Animation's
Mitsuo Shadow episode
and
True End OVA episode
. For now, I'm left wondering why this exists.

I still need to watch it, but I'm not too surprised by the pacing complaints. It's going to be rough cutting a 60+ hour game down into a 5-6 hour anime series (assuming the eps are about 30 minutes a piece).

I think that was the worse pilot episode for an anime I've seen in my life. Even worse than the pilot of SAO 1.5, imo. :\

Really disappointed how rushed the episodes are just to add some minor, minor plot. If I hadn't known what Persona was, I would be terribly confused and think this was some third-rate anime with a plot made.

It's like they put it in a form in which it is so rushed, that you get no feel for the story, and in turn the whole "charm" and trash everything.

Honestly, the first 15 minutes was an absolute mess. For the sake of rushing, no characters had any personalities, besides the overly-done Yu. I couldn't help but cringe at how bad his first day at school was up the events leading up to them going into the TV.

The fight scene wasn't the worst part of the episode, but it was by far the most disappointing of them all. The fight scene was so shoe-horned it, and the actual quality of the fight wasn't really good at all, nor did it give off the feel of any of the battles in Persona. Instead it felt like a really boring, mind-numbing battle against an insane number of enemies as Izanagi repeated the same techniques found in Shonen-Fight #56943. It got to the point where I was literally covering my face as Izanagi was coming back to Yu with haloing and clouds surrounding him.

Also, as mentioned earlier, they got the whole feel of Yu wrong. I can't really explain this well, but rather than being the much "cool"-er "level-headed"-er that we've seen, Yu just is shown as extremely unlikable. Oh and the fact that Yu is never even really introduced to the original cast was really off-putting.

And that leads me to another point. The liberties. Oh geez, the liberties. When you go into an anime, especially one that is adapted from another source material, you expect liberties to be taken to help increase the enjoyment and portray feelings that you can't get from copy-pastaing the same stuff as the original work. In this case, all liberties were purely for making the show run its events faster and to not tell as good of a story, and for what? An extra 4 minutes with Marie, who is really the only character part of the anime that was redeeming.

Still, it doesn't seem that the rush-shoehorn-the-golden-stuff is worth the expense of what makes it a bad anime.

I know people like to say that it's like a New Game +, and that we're just rushing through the plot for some events, but is it worth it? Is having not as good charm, story, pacing worth the extra Golden content?

Even the whole thing about Golden for me, the nostalgia and callbacks to content you once experienced, seems to not be a focus for the anime. It's just rushing, and as a result, not really tapping into the nostalgia or feel that makes P4(G) so special.

As it stands on its own, I think it is a pretty bad episode for an anime, and something I'd immediately drop if I hadn't played Persona 4 a billion and six times on both Vita/PS2.

Really hoping for a killer next episode. Too bad it seems like there is no end to the rushing, as we see Kanji in the preview for the next episode.

I guess this exists solely due to the fact they have more material to work with in terms of animation :l.

I mean, with the Golden content alone, you could make about....10+ episodes of interesting and entertaining content Persona fans could enjoy via animation. That alongside the fact they could improve this from issues from the original animation (Yu's character only really kicking in during the second half of the series, the odd shading for the cast, ect) made them think "Hay, lets make ANOTHER anime based off this game guys :D!"

They could have just made a flat out movie of the Golden content from P4G, but I suppose they don't want that to conflict with any success that the P3: Movies might be having (and they are really great :D; while the P3 MC doesn't have that much character in the movie, his backstory makes it justified and from the trailers of the second movie, that fixed a lot of the issues the first one had :D).

I hope this anime ends up being just as good as the original P4 Animation (really enjoyed that one :D); it has the potential to be.

Not that I particularly liked this episode, but you might be approaching this series from a wrong angle. Just like the very beginning implies, this seems particularly aimed at people who are already familiar with Persona 4's story, so it was produced with that in mind.

Still funny that the ed song is called "Next Chance To Move On." Guess this is theirs.

Did they use weapons this time, or is it still just Personas fighting?

If anything is being particularly degraded in this series compared to other depictions of Persona 4, I'm willing to bet they're going to be the battle scenes. The way the first battle unfolded could very well just be a way to hand-wave the conclusions of future fights as "Yu can destroy anything."

So nah, I'm not confident they'll be fighting with their weapons. Kind of unfortunate, since I love the way it's handled in P3M, but this is a bit different.

hell no we're looking at less than 5 hours since an ep is at most 22 minutes worth of shit excluding OP/ED.

Yu fucked up during that scene imo. Should have taken Rise and ran outta there, leaving those other pleb girls behind

just watched the first episode and overall i'm liking it, very interesting that this is Yu from NG+ and it definitely makes sense seeing his confidence and badassery.

Even then, it didn't provide the nostalgia and added "feel" that I felt Golden provided very well. It just felt like it rushed content with the knowledge that the person has probably already played the game/watched the anime for the sole sake of Marie.

I dunno what I was expecting, but I'll be sure to try and keep an open-mind about the series going on.

The reason I say "worst anime pilot" is probably due to me not seeing many bad anime pilots myself.

They only fight with the Personas; that was the case in the original animation (despite the whole weapons scene early in that series still happening like in the games) and looks to be the case here.

Its is odd though; at least in the original animation the characters got physically hurt when their Persona's got damaged and Yu did way more in the original series then here (there he shifted through Persona's like crazy during fights). Then again, this is ONLY the first episode of this new series, so who knows :l.

Whats the most annoying part is that people who worked on the Persona 3 movies are working on this. What I mean is that in those movies, Minato and his party more or less still fight shadows the same way they do in the games; they have actual weapons to use (little details added too; Yukari has a quiver with her bow instead of just the bow for example), once the Persona's are summoned, they disappear after they attack and when they over-use their Persona's, they can't summon them anymore till there spirit is restored.

I would think they would implement that within in here but nope :l.... At least the scenes look cool...

Rushed? Everyone's over-powered? All scenes are ignored as if they were already known about?

damn, they are going out of their way to make this the anime version of New Game +

If this is New Game+, shouldn't he have access to the compendium and a wide range of demons he already summoned previously?
His cash should've carried over, so next episode he better be switching around and not just using Izanagi.

All the comments about this being the NG+ of Persona 4 Animation.....really doesn't make much since in some ways :l. I mean, it does explain why Yu is much more upbeat while still retaining his funny moments from P4 Animation but in terms of how powerful he is...it doesn't work :(.

From replaying the game many times since I got it (beat it four times in the span of two months XD), all that is carried over is the registered Persona's you have via Velvet Room, the items you have (but you have to buy them again), your S. Link items and Yu's social stats.

I don't remember having a level 99 Izanagi when I started my second NG+ playthrough X(!

It just seems that they pulled the 'over-powered' move just to get this scene over with; they will most likely have the other party members awakenings to their Persona's be shown via flashback during sections of the episodes (half-hearted way to deal with this though :l...). They just want to have the Golden content take center stage...so they are going to be skipping a lot from what it seems...
