not really Fred's fault he's shit and Brazil can't produce a good number 9. didn't have a good striker going into last world cup as well, and it also cost them there.

but David Luiz, good god. you played under some of the top defensive tacticians and managers in Europe (Benitez, then Mourinho), you're the most expensive defender of all time—and you can't even mark your man on a corner? embarrassing. if he has any self-respect and dignity, he'll just retire from international football after this tournament or, better yet, he'll just get frozen out of the side a la Nasri with France.

I'm a legal person.

LOL

He only played one game, and really didn't have the impact that would merit him taking Özil's spot. He was extremely good in our old counter-attacking style, but the passing build-up we do now, with the total football style forwards, it isn't his thing. He has also been on a slight decline since joining Arsenal, not able to make the improvements and everything he has needed in the past.

Good player, unlucky overall. I wish things were better for the guy because he after meeting him, he gained a lot of my respect. He is extremely humble and kind, loves his team and fans. He is the kind that would probably be pretty OK playing from the bench if he ever gets to play, just because he loves being a part of the whole thing. I really feel for the guy, he is awesome.

He's getting a lot of attention from Brazilian media since he is one of the most Brazil enthusiasts in this World Cup. He have been tweeting in Portuguese since he arrived and everyday he is posting pictures and praising Brazil's nature and warm people. He even wrote a text after the match asking people to respect Brazil's national team history.

Some are saying he is doing that as personal marketing, but I believe he is being spontaneous. He seems to be a very nice guy.

Nah, you're right. He is just like that as a person, honestly. If you follow his Facebook account too, he posts everything he says in a bunch of languages so that people around the world, anyone who likes him, can understand. It is something I wish other people did. I am not surprised at all, he is an awesome guy. I wish he had more playing time, but that is just how things are. Love him though, he was a breakout star in 2006, and great in 2010.

I just wish he will have some good job after his active career

He would know doubt at least make it as a great analyst or something, he has a very good personality - very fun. He'd be fine on television. I don't know much about his other skills but I could definitely see him either helping in charity or staying with football somehow.

I'm almost rooting for Germany now just because of him. lol

That's why by the end of this season, Mou routinely left him out of the lineup. He's a defender who doesn't like defending. Mou isn't a fan of attacking midfielders who don't like to track back and defend (Mata), nevermind a defensive midfielder, so it's not at all surprising that we sold him to PSG.

Thats what I thought, analyst on television, and of course a spokesman for cologne (if its the city or the club, both would be ok) and ones he is settled in his 50 and will be 1.FC Kölns president :D

Makes me wonder what they could have been if Diego Costa kept playing at Brazil.

We have some awesome personalities on our team, actually, people would be surprised. Very little arrogance overall and a ton of respectable guys. Klose is one of the most fair players I know, very recognizable for not making the most of challenges and not being an ass. He also could care less if he were starting, even less so than Podolski. He has as much satisfaction teaching and talking to the younger members on the team on the bench as he does playing with everyone on the pitch.

Müller is a crazy fun guy, and a big romantic if you didn't know. He has a few anger issues now and then, but he normally means the best for everyone. I don't know how else to describe him, he is like the life of the party that will put his wife before a lot, I guess. He also loves talking to fans, I've met him too, and he is probably my favorite to hang around.

Schweinsteiger is top class as a person, just look at that image of him consoling people from the other teams, he is extremely understanding and nice, has a ton of dedication and is a really strong leader.

Lahm is one of many players that all do massive charity work, have their own foundations around the world. His in particular has a strong connection to South Africa, he loves his fanbase.

I could go on forever, but really I think you get the point. I will not pretend we are all good guys though. Kroos has a major temper and is sort of entitled. Götze is pretty cocky. Everyone has their faults though. It works out having a lot of great people in the team though, because they really work together. Very selfless on the pitch, you can see in the way they pass and go for assists, they are the same off of it too. I think it is a pretty great thing, really.

Oh man, if that happened I would be extremely satisfied. He is an awesome guy and would make a great Ambassador of Köln, and he would be extremely dedicated as a president for the club. I want him in the management of that team somehow, he really loves that place, mentions them all the time in posts and tries his best to support them.

He was really bad against Germany but he was doing an almost perfect World Cup before that. I think he mentally collapsed during the pressure to be the captain and the team's biggest reference due to Neymar and Silva's absence. Brazilian media was all over him during the last days before the match and everyone was praising him like he would be the team's saviour.

Still after the match, people here are not blaming him at all. His image is still very good with the fans alongside with Neymar and Silva the ones who were forgiven.

I missed this one, so I'll apologize preemptively if this is old news around here. The thread moves too fast for me to keep track.

A bunch of Brazilian fans were apparently talking trash to an Argentine crowd at a shopping mall food court. The results are about what you'd expect.

A-tier trolling right here.

Rough translation:

“Brazil, tell me how it feels,
to have daddy in your home.
I swear that even as the years go by,
we’ll never forget.
How Diego out dribbled you,
and Cani[ggia] stuck you.
You’ve been crying since Italy until today,
you’ll see Messi,
bring the cup back to us.
Maradona is greater than Pelé.”

Trolltastic.

Wow, this was really good to know. I already had a lot of respect for those guys for all I've seen from them inside the pitch. But this is pure class. I rooted for Germany against Brazil because I believed football deserved better than Scolari's fraud of a team. But now I'm really glad that I chose Germany.

I'm so glad that the Cup will be in good hands. Messi and Lahm, both are worth of it.

This makes me so happy and jealous. As an American that is a Germany fan, it's my dream to go to Germany, go to a Bayern Munich game and get a signed ball/jersey.

I know it will never happen, but I can hope. :_)

This post is so damn awesome :-)

And Podolski is really one of a kind, he knows he is a lucky guy, because he came from basically nothing and is one of the best known german players on the globe in this generation. But he hasnt forgotten where he comes from, he loves absolutly everything about Köln/Cologne and his hometown nearby. He is dedicated with everything he got for both of his childhood clubs. He booked a whole lounge in Colognes stadium which you can actually book for all kinds of stuff.

Hope is all you can really do, honestly. But there are a lot of fan meetings that they do, Bayern, especially after celebrations. A lot of people look at them as a pretty big jerk club, stealing all the talent, but they are really class people and care a lot about their fans and about Munich. Just get a lot of bad publicity from some of the people making mistakes or being dumb.

I am an extremely lucky guy, really. When I still lived in Munich, I had season tickets every year and got a ton of opportunities to be close to the bench. They talk a lot and give out some pretty cool things now and then. If you ever do get the chance to go, you should really take it. Germany is a beautiful country, Munich is an awesome place, Allianz is a great stadium, and watching them in person is so satisfying.

The talk about Podolski had me looking up some info, he's already among Germany's most capped players at 29 alongside some of the other great currently active players;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany_national_football_team#Most_capped_players

He actually holds our record for youngest player to reach 100 caps. He was a MAJOR star in 2006 and 2010, big name. Still very well known. Great with his left foot. It is a real shame things didn't work out for him going forward, he is still top class I think. Just doesn't get that many opportunities.

Who will Brazil root for? I assume they won't root for Argentina to win a WC in their Country?

The Brazilian supporters in the stadium were already cheering Germany on when they scored the 7th goal into their own net. They know good football when they see it, heh.

It'd be double whammy for them if Argentina won the WC in Rio lol.

And Podolski is like the class-clown for the team. He is full of jokes and fun and does a lot to help the team. Although he is not playing he is a very important part of the team. He lives not so far away with his wife and kid when he is in germany, and although I havent met him yet, I heard he is very laidback and casual and when you see him he is friendly most of the time and takes time even during shopping

Of course I cannot claim to know Brazil at all, but everything I've seen during the tournament makes me think they might actually root for Germany. Lots of interviews even during group stage where Brazil fans told reporters that after Brazil themselves Germany is the team they'd root for, lots of hype for the match (five games before and with the very real possibility that one of us would kick the bucket before). Standing ovations for Germany during the actual game and the German players cheering up Brazil's players after the match was generally received as a class act if the translations of some articles going around were correct.

And if the rivalry of Brazil/Argentina is actually serious (unlike that German/Netherlands "rivalry") I think Argentina winning the cup in Brazil would sting waaaay more than Germany taking it.

But as I said, these are only my own impressions and I have no idea what actual Brazil fans think. Step up BrazilGAF, tell us how it is.

Unlike my other meetings, the one with Lukas was pretty long. We talked a while and he really is like that, very fun. He is a lot like Müller in that regard, also Özil when he is in a good mood. He is extremely nice and treats his fans like his best friends, it is so cool. I wish I could talk to him again, it was a pretty good experience.

You nailed it.

Everyone I know likes Germany football team. There is a friend of mine who supports Germany as his own national team.

Brazil admires Germany as a model country most of the time. Though, I don't know if that's because there are a lot of Brazilians of German descent. lol

+respect to your folks, that's kind of how I ended up listening to him and watching his movies, Sandro in his prime during the 70s was a force to be reckoned with, he was the equivalent of Elvis Presley for South America, nobody had more game than him, lets face it, most of women in South America during the 70s were shagged by him, he was the ultimate
player, someday I'll make a thread to let GAF know about this legend, but I digress, back on topic.

Vamos Argentina!!!!

I'm Brazilian and I have no idea who this man is.

Germany for 95% of the people here. Most of us reeeeally dislike Argentina when it's about football.

That video of Romero taking out his notes in goal before the penalty some how really cracks me up. Must say I've never seen that before :P

Damn that sucks
Klose and him were my favourite players on Germany's team for the past 2 cups

Neither do I. But wikipedia knows him:

Sandro-sandrodeamerica-1969.jpg

Argentine singer Sandro de América, whose real name is Roberto Sánchez. He must have been an Argentine version of Roberto Carlos. lol

I guess so. Maybe the language barrier stopped us from getting in contact with him (although I guess everybody has heard of Julio Iglesias and some other Spanish-speaking singers).

Now I wonder if the rest of South America knows Roberto Carlos. I know that some brazilians stars like Xuxa are well known.
