I think it's probably due to environment, he came from Minnesota(?).
I came from backward ass town in South East Asia, and did not have mustard until recently when I came to Germany. D&D? There's no way anyone in my town knows that, heck I don't even recall if there's a shopping mall in our island and nor highway.

He's probably very much shaped by his environment, I guess.

Kansas, I think.

I'm pretty sure Minnesota has mustard.

I don't want to say this cause I know some of the guys read this thread, but I can't help it...
Dan really doesn't know a lot of stuff I would think is common knowledge. He seems oddly sheltered or something. Not knowing whether D&D was a pen and paper game or a video game first? Not having mustard until he's 28? Not driving on a highway until his late 20's or something? There are other things I can't recall at the moment, but his gaps in knowledge/experience are interesting.

Driving late. really isn't that strange. Harsh to call him sheltered because of that, or any if these things actually. Though I understand what you're saying.

I kind of feel the same way. I also noticed during the Sniper Elite III QL, he said, "So this is on Xbox One, right?" when there were clearly PlayStation button prompts on the screen, and I think Jeff mentioned it was the PS4 version earlier too.

The first couple of times I noticed stuff like this, it was sort of, "Oh, weird, guess it's just one of those things he was randomly never exposed to/missed..." until it happened a few more times after that. I guess time will tell, but as long as his gaming knowledge isn't terrible, I suppose it's all good.

"I've been to a lot of cons and so far the people at @GaymerX has been the friendliest."

I hope to see his impressions about it on the site.
He's apparently also going to EVO, but probably on his own and not to film stuff.

Dan's complete disinterest in Divinity and the lack of knowledge in the genre is kind of a bummer. Rorie aside there's no real RPG people at the San Francisco studio any more. I miss Dave ;-;

Really neat to see Brad getting into the game despite having no background in the genre though. Really goes to show how special the game is.

I'm watching it now and I'm just thinking about how excited Dave would be for this. Dan has been fun for the most part but he's a total dude.

I am liking a lot of what Dan is doing already at GB but I'm suprised by how much content they have put him in already. Im sure I remember Jeff talking about how they wanted to gradually introduce Patrick to the audience but they've gone for the opposite here.

Also, despite loving wrestling myself I could really do without Dan bringing it up somehow in pretty much every video.

Haven't gotten the impression that Dan was disinterested. He was still asking questions. I think he was just absorbing what's going on since he's never played these days. Would've been nice to have Dave on tho.

I dunno why people are so concerned about dan not participating in the quick look. It's not like he was even the main participant there anyway. Might as well treat it as a brad/rorie quick look.

Not only is Brad in the game, but he indicated that Divinity may currently be his GOTY.

That really surprised me. I doubt it'll last, but I can see it ending up top 3.

I dunno if he'll stick with it. I'm 70 hours in and reckon that I still have about 15-20 more to go.

Also if he thinks that it's obtuse now then man, can't wait till he progresses further. I love it and I love the obtuseness but man, it can be a little too obtuse at times.

I'm 32, have never driven, don't know or care about D&D, never had mustard, etc.. Not sure how that makes me sheltered, just have no interest in the stuff you might have done or are interested in?

Since everyone's talking about Dan not knowing anything about D&D I started to wonder if he's even watched the Simpsons. Because that's where I learned what D&D is as a kid among many other things in American pop-culture.

Everyone should just watch The Simpsons to know everything worth knowing about the 90's.

Oh man, I don't know if I have time to play another long-ass RPG right now, as much as I know I would love it. I just finally finished P4G this week and I started it all the way back in September.

I know jackshit about D&D as well. I just play the video games that happen to use the rules but I couldn't care less about the pen and paper games.

Well I mean he's been at GB over a week already, way too long to go unbesmirched if you ask me (!) The grace period had to end sometime. I thought it would be the anime fans when I saw there was a One Piece QL going up but nope, it was the CRPG fans, congrats.

is the charity stream they did recently archived anywhere (sims house, danny o'dwyer etc)?

i caught a bit of it and i'm pretty sure they said it wouldn't be, but i saw some short clips of it on the youtube

Looks like this guy has uploaded the whole thing on YouTube, though he had to break it up for obvious reasons.

I still haven't watched it myself, actually. I'm pretty behind on a lot of the livestreams.

That One Piece QL was great, though. Haha

When Patrick arrived, they had the luxury of a full house - editors, production and lots of 'scrubs' who would drop in on content. Compare that to now, and GB West is basically a skeleton crew.

Also, Patrick needed a longer settling in period. He wasn't used to regularly producing GB style content and was obviously quite nervous - some of his first year content was not easy to watch/listen.

This is going to be his brothers and diablo 3 thing where none of them were his game of the year.

Passed out during that Divinity quick look but that's probably more to do with how boring it is to watch someone play that style of game than anything else.

Does anything decent happen after the point where Brad fights the blob that generates wolves?

This is a bit of a random aside related to a thing discussed about ten pages ago, but...

The Live Bomb! browser extension for Chrome is going to continue to exist and be in development. If you're interested in contributing your time and effort to help improve it, you can do that on GitHub. If you'd just like to download it, it's still available at the same place on the Chrome Web Store.

As of yesterday's update, it can now display the upcoming schedule beyond the five items shown on the front page of GB. Coming soon will be optional GameSpot live stream notifications and upcoming schedule for any people that might be interested in that.

Yay! Thanks Chase!

I think it's a bit overreaction to call Dan sheltered. If you live close to your work you don't have much of a reason to drive. He still knew how to drive, he had just never done a cross country drive which is completely normal. I'm not surprised he never tried mustard, he's intelligent. Mustard is terrible and should go back to whichever circle of hell it was harvested from. It's a bit weird to have knowledge of D&D be one of the criteria we judge being sheltered by.

I have a cousin who plays video games (he's really into Dota right now) and loves playing board games and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't know where DnD originated from.

Some stuff just isn't in your wheelhouse of shit you know about that you don't care about knowing about.

Chris waters is a good gamespot person

I dont know how to respond to this with some clever "Chris waters is a gamespot created robot" so I wont try

but Chris Waters was a Gamespot created robot
