Wow the negative word of mouth really put the breaks on Godzilla.
Godzilla might be the first movie with a $90M+ opening to fail to reach $200M domestic. It will be close.

No bomb for Edge of Tomorrow. $29m opening weekend and on pace to gross about $75m - $85m domestically. International gross sits at $110m, and the movie hasn't been released in China or Japan yet, two territories that love Cruise's movies.

Yes, because at least the other characters are human enough to be relatable. I would rather it be a small alien than a racoon, because now it seems it's steering into The Zookeeper and Doctor Doolittle territory of funny talking animals.

Apes opens to $75m domestically. Maleficent and EoT reach $669m and $351m globally respectively. Looks like there's a possibility that we get through the summer without a genuine bomb. Upcoming big budget films in July/August include Hercules, GoTG, and TMNT.
I could see Hercules bombing
GoTC is typical Marvel crap, so will do well. Just like TMNT will be typical Bay crap, will also do well.Apes opens to $75m domestically. Edge of Tomorrow is a great SciFi movie that'll touch the heart of many gamers because the concept is quite similar to a videogame.but which ones the best?
There's a group of children that are not interested in this movie at least. If there is a God, TMNT will bomb hard.

There's still "hope"I ate the the crow a long time ago, but yeah, looks like there won't be a bomb this summer at all, I'm a little disappointed.

I think it's going to bomb, the commercials/trailers don't look interesting in the least and I'm not noticing very much buzz at all; for a summer release it looks cheap IMO and they've done nothing to explain why anyone should see it other than "Hey it's the Rock and he's Hercules" which isn't enough nowadays. What do you guys think Hercules? The movie is coming out in this week and there seems to be no hype for it.
You could say that about all Marvel films and look how that turned out. Iron man was B-tier at best when his movie came out, same with Thor. There's almost zero chance of this movie bombing with Marvel and Disney pushing the hell out of it.Hrmmm based on what's left from the list, I wouldn't be surprised if Let's be Cops bombed. I could see a ton of people being turned off from it's premise. The movies bad marketing could make some people view it as "tacky" or "distasteful". This could be another "30 Minutes or Less" but worse.
I think Guardians of the Galaxy will maybe bomb domestically as well, all the comic movie die hard fans will see it but I don't know if it appeals to the masses outside that demographic. It might be successful as a film parents will take their kids to go see during the summer, I could see it being a huge success with the 8-14 demographic. It's hard to say since GotG doesn't have anywhere near the mass recognition as Marvel's other characters. This could be a film where we start to see diminishing returns on comic book movies.
Dunno about TMNT, we live in a world where 4 Bayformers movies have been released.

RDJ was still struggling with his drug image when Iron Man came out, and who had heard of Hemsworth before Thor? I just think people are really under estimating Marvels pull right now. Cap 2 gave them a huge bump, and I think it's going to carry over to GotG. Plus it's Aug, other then TMNT, it really doesn't have anything to fight with.I wouldn't say that about all Marvel films. Marvel has established brands that have been around for decades. Even Thor and Iron-Man have existed in some form or fashion outside of the comic books for a long time. Rather it be cartoons, action figures, kids clothing, or videogames. Many people still knew who Thor and Iron Man were before the movies were around without ever reading their comics. While might be considered "B Tier", they've still had a shit ton of exposure for decades.
You could argue that point by mentioning Fantastic Four. Well the FF movies looked like ass even in trailers. I read comics as a kid and I didn't know of anyone that was a comic reader that actually liked Fantastic Four either.
I think GotG might bomb domestically because I don't think it's going to catch that nostalgia that even Iron Man or Thor bring to attract older audiences. I still think it could be very successful though with the younger demographic with children.
edit: I would also say that Iron Man has RDJ, and Thor has Chris Hemsworth whom women love. I would argue that GotG doesn't have near the same star power.
Early tracking for Guardians opening is $60M.
Tracking for Lucy's opening is $40M
I think Lucy might bomb, but I doubt it's very big budget anyway.
but which ones the best?
Yea, I doubt the budget is very high. The film is produced by EuropaCorp, an Indie studio whose previous highest budget movie was Taken 2, at $45m.
Early tracking for Guardians opening is $60M.
I think that number is a week or so old. Deadline says it's tracking at $68-70M and may open even higher.
holy shit. The Marvel brand carries more clout than I thought.I think that number is a week or so old. Deadline says it's tracking at $68-70M and may open even higher.
