Destiny 2 m'hunter.

What if there is no Destiny 2? What if they go the MMO route and just release expansion after expansion?!

Alright what is the worst class?

I am gathering from reading the thread that not many play as a Titan.

I am going to play all classes but want to start with the worst first so the game gets gradually better as I play.

I'll be playing as a Titan. There's too many Warlocks and Hunters out there so somebody has to bring balance to the Guardians.

Titan smash all day err' day!

Woah, now. As a member of the male gender with a firm butt, I don't find it gross at all. On me or anyone else.

male butts sure, i mean hell i do squats 3x a week

females though.... dat jiggle 😍

I think the release cycle is already planned out over a 10 year period: Destiny, Expansion 1, Expansion 2, Destiny 2, Expansion 1, Expansion 2, Destiny 3, etc.

Yeah from the old court doc that looked like that would be the plan.

But plans sometimes do change, I wonder if the actual engine/graphics will change radically by the time destiny 2 comes out, as surely that'll be next/current gen only?

old court doc? wat?

Explain, please.

I really, really hope we get to use that bayonet.

(I don't understand my fascination with bayonets for this game.)

That's easy, in general it's much better to stab with your boomstick especially if you have the option to shoot at the same time you're poking the asshole, than it is to just club the idiot over the head with it.

Did everyone check out this album already? https://imgur.com/a/TlUCE

The hunter helmet looks amazing, I hope we can change colors. Based PS4 exclusive, but I wish my Xbros could also have these items sooner than later.

Yeah, this actually makes the Titan look even better than I thought. However, this poll is blowing my mind. I guess I'll have to give Warlock a go, along with Hunter.

In my heart though, I'll always be a Titan. That's the way I'm built.

I would prefer this route for Destiny, actually. I like the MMO style of having a single game world that everything resides in and I think that style would also work well with Destiny.

Without that, I guess we'd end up with something similar to Mass Effect, where you just import your characters in...

Are these available straight away in the full game on PS4 or unlockable later on? I'm just afraid that i'll never want to take that warlock armor off.

My guest would be that they are rewarded after completing the PS timed exclusive strike. That should take awhile to get to because in this armor set are the guns and we know they both are exotic so Bungie wouldn't want to just hand you them.

Eh, but games that just keep adding expansions usually are locked into certain systems. With new games they'll be able to rethink aspects of the game that want to improve and basically start from scratch.

So... has anyone played this on both the PS4 and the PS3, who can give me their impression of how the PS3 version holds up? Is it comparable, or is this another game I need to simply pass on purchasing?

Not true at all. Expansions are just sequels and any content in any game can be completely changed through patches anyways. Entire systems can be overhauled without having to introduce an entire new game.

That's an interesting point, Also how would it go because they're bound to add new player classes too, maybe implement like WoW did, you can keep your character going with the added new skill tree/ additional power ups.

Then if you have say a level 30 character you'll be able to play as one of the new classes....

im going to feel so awsome when i get the PS exlusive stuff only every player i will ever play with are going to have it :p

anyway cant wait for destiny. I want to pick Titans as my main but tripple jump and knife..... i dont know..

The general public has only ever played this game on PS4. The alpha was only available there. Bungie has never officially released a screenshot or video of it running on anything other then a PS4 either.

it being a bungie game I wouldnt expect the drop of quality to be huge, but it's certainly going to be noticeable.

Well, this is rather telling. If they haven't shown it, there probably a good reason for it (re: it is bad).

The big question is whether the already announced expansions are what Comet 1 initially was, now split into two separate packs. If I had to guess there will be an actual disc expansion, Activision / Bungie will need to stay on the shelves for all ten years, and it's easier to do a larger advertisement campaign build around an tangible physical Comet 1 release rather then two "random" DLC packs.

Whether that retail release next year will be new content or a repacked physical release of the currently announced expansions. But as said, I imagine that the announced content is within the games first six months of life, and then expansion announcement come E3 and release around September next year.

Engine wise there will probably be some stuff done, but it will probably be more in terms of sandbox size when they are free of the shackles that last gen provide. It will be interesting to see how much it will all evolve in the coming decade.

Okay, so they're obviously not going to support Xbox360/PS3 for the entire 10 year release schedule. I assume there must be plans to implement some kind of character migration from last gen to current gen.

Destiny - Explore the solar system
Destiny 2 - Explore multiple star systems
Destiny 3 - The galaxy!

I'm not sure where the Cabal come from, the Vex are from the future, not sure where the Hive or the Fallen come from, or the Darkness. It would be cool if they were from somewhere else in the galaxy/universe and we had to go to their home planets at some point.

This is a really good point. Where's that World of Warbars picture?

As disgusting as that picture looked, I'm fairly certain that was a result of someone overdoing it with add-ons. The vanilla WoW experience looks nothing like that.

Not true at all. Expansions are just sequels and any content in any game can be completely changed through patches anyways. Entire systems can be overhauled without having to introduce an entire new game.

Precisely.

Perhaps this should be added to the OP?

What is Destiny? ( a comprehensive explanation for newcomers )

You may have heard about Destiny, the new game being made by Bungie, who also happen to be the creators of the critically-acclaimed Halo series. You also may have heard that ActiVision-who is publishing the game-have spent around $500 million dollars on Destiny. However, this is probably all that you know about this game. So, for those who really don't know what this game is, I have decided to write this comprehensive explanation and show you why so many people are excited for this game.

The Core Mechanics

At the core, Destiny is a first-person-shooter game. And with the experience Bungie has with this genre, many players would argue that the shooter mechanics have been perfected. To give a reference point, if you enjoy the mechanics of games like Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Killzone, etc., then you will have no trouble getting used to the mechanics and controls of Destiny. For the genre of Destiny, Bungie has created what they call "Mythic Sci-fi", in which a fantasy element is merged with sci-fi. So to summarize, Destiny is a first-person-shooter at heart, and those mechanics are the most obvious when first playing.

The Beginning
When hopping into the world of Destiny for the first time, you begin with creating your unique 'Guardian'. You can choose your race: human, awoken (a white-skinned elvish type), and exo (a mech, Master Chief type). Also, you choose your class: warlock (a space wizard, with magical abilities), titan (a tanky character, with jetpacks and 'smashing' abilities), or hunter (a lone-wolf, fast moving, known for snipers and hand-cannons). You can customize your aesthetics as well, enough to make your character unique, but not so much that it overwhelms new players.

A Social Experience

Throughout all of Destiny, the game is made to be played with your friends. Every game mode can be played with your friends. You can even play the campaign with two friends. Destiny is based around playing in groups of three guardians, called a 'fireteam'. You can take your fireteam to explore, fight, and hunt for loot. Destiny is also a variation of an MMO in ways, which does mean the game will require an always online internet connection. To describe the game's 'MMO features', I describe Destiny as an 'MMO for casuals'. Destiny is an 'MMO for casuals' because it tones down what would be a normal MMO experience. Leveling is much faster than MMO's, and gear is not as dependent in PvP. Meaning, the player who plays once or twice a week can still do well against the player who plays 5-6 hours a day. Also, if going through a strike, and you miss a loot drop, Destiny will send it to your 'mailbox' in The Tower. This way, even if you're only a casual player, you won't miss out on cool stuff. Anyway, all of these simple features lead Destiny to being a social experience and what would be described as an 'MMO for casuals'.

Game Modes

In an interview with Eurogamer, design lead Lars Bakken stated that when creating Destiny, Bungie set out to make a game with "activities for every mood". So it comes as no surprise that there are a wealth of game modes in the game. Some of these modes are what you would expect out of any other FPS game, and other modes are a little more unique. As of now, there are 6 confirmed game modes in Destiny: Crucible, Campaign, Strikes, Explore, Tower, and Raids.

Crucible

This game mode is one that is a more common one to games in the FPS genre. In simple terms, The Crucible is Destiny's competitive multiplayer. It consists of a variety of game modes that are variations of common FPS multiplayer game modes (ie. team death match, capture the flag, free for all, etc.). To give a rough number, there will probably be around 7-15 game modes in The Crucible. The Crucible differs from other shooters in mechanics. Because of the guardians' movement abilities (double jump, hover, etc.), verticality becomes a big factor in The Crucible. Another major mechanic is that 'special' and 'heavy' ammo drops in periodically throughout the match. So every player in the match spawns with little 'special' ammo, and NO 'heavy' ammo at all. So to be able to use that really powerful rocket launcher you have equipped, you must fight to locate the 'heavy' ammo crates scattered on the map. Another interesting mechanic is that all the 'Damage' stats are normalized for PvP. This is to create an equal playing space between newcomers and experienced players. These, along with other mechanics create a unique PvP experience that can be fun as well as highly competitive. Overall, The Crucible is Destiny's PvP game mode, with many game-changing mechanics that separate it from other FPS games.

Campaign

This game mode is another common one amongst the FPS genre. As you would expect, this game mode tells a story, using your created guardian as the main character. The story, to somewhat summarize, tells the story of how humanity went through a golden age, in which we pioneered and occupied the other planets of our solar system. However, something called 'The Darkness' ruined humans as a species, and pushed very close to the edge of extinction. You now are a guardian who is fighting back against 'The Darkness', and trying to take back all that we have lost. Again, with Bungie's Halo games, a rich, cinematic story was told, and many players believe them to be some of the best narratives in all of video games. So, this means that come launch of the game, you can expect a very high quality story that will capture and interest you. To summarize, Destiny's campaign will most likely be a great one, and be worth spending the time of playing through it.

Strikes

Now here is where Destiny begins to fade away from the standard FPS experience. A strike is, in short, a highly replayable arcade-style mission played in fireteams of three guardians. At the end of each strike, you will receive loot, experience, and other 'goodies'. To compare this to other games, you can think of this a dungeon in an MMO game. These missions are loosely tied to the story experience, and bring a great replayable amount of content that will keep you coming back again and again. Strikes can be played on different difficulty settings to increase the challenge if you're up for it. To summarize, this game mode is a quick arcade-style dungeon, played in fireteams of three guardians.

Explore

Another game mode that differs from most other FPS games is the 'Explore' game mode. It allows for players to experience an open-world free-roaming experience throughout the Destiny universe. Whilst exploring these areas, you will encounter other random guardians that you can choose to interact with, or not. A very interesting feature of Destiny is there are certain areas of 'Explore' with certain features. When entering a smaller indoor location, you will enter what I prefer to call a Private Zone. This means that only you and your fireteam can be seen. Then when leaving this indoor location to the huge outdoor world, you will enter what I prefer to call a Public Zone, in which you may run into other exploring guardians and perhaps their respective fireteams. The cornerstone feature that makes this really cool: There are no loading screens, meaning that entering a Private Zone from a Public Zone is completely seamless, and vice versa. The transition between Public Zone and Private Zone is what makes Destiny similar to but not actually a MMO. The areas available for 'Explore' are expected to be huge. One area has been explored by the general public in the Destiny alpha. It's size is comparable to that of GTA V. To put Destiny's 'Explore' game mode in scale, at this time, four areas have been confirmed for the game: Earth, The Moon, Mars, and Venus. If each one of those areas had one 'Explore' zone, that would theoretically allow the player to explore FOUR GTA V-sized maps. To add to the size of this game, a lot of hints have been put out indicating that there may be more than one 'Explore' zone on each planetary body (such as concept art and talk of Old Chicago). With a plethora of enemies scattered across the 'Explore' zone, from personal experience, I never got bored of exploring Old Russia, and can imagine that many other players didn't either. An interesting that is in 'Explore', are things called Public Events. These are events that happen that ask the surrounding guardians to team up and complete a task. For example, in one public event, a spaceship flies in and drops in a 'Devil Walker' (a mini-boss), and the surrounding guardians must get together to take it down within a time limit. There are many secrets that can be found in each 'Explore' zone, and loot chests are randomized in location each time the player spawns in. This means that every time you head off to explore, there will always be a reason to keep looking around the entire map. In total, the 'Explore' game mode encourages adventure and discovery, and will continue to surprise you, the player, in many ways.

Tower

The Tower is much less of a game mode, than a gathering area. It is what Bungie calls "a third-person social hub where you can regroup, rearm, and form new alliances before venturing beyond the safety of the City's walls". This is really a place to show off your guardian and his/her gear. Destiny is a game highly dependent on collecting and finding loot (the best guns, helmets, chest plates, etc.). So this area is for you to show off the gear that you have gotten. To illustrate, if you see someone walking around with a very unique piece of armor in The Tower, you can then tell that that guardian went through some sh** to get that piece of armor.

Raids

Raids are one of the more MMO-like game modes in Destiny. Raids, in simple terms, are high-level endgame 'missions'. They have been compared to somewhat resemble a strike. However, they have been also said to contain puzzles and other more complex features that willcomplicate the experience, and therefore set it apart from strikes. According to urk, "it took a top-tier guild 16 hours to FAIL a raid". This therefore shows the real challenge that raids will be, and that they truly will be endgame content. Raids are what Bungie wants you to spend the endgame in, not just The Crucible.

A Typical Day with Destiny

Bungie has preached many times that Destiny will have "an activity for every mood". A quote by Tyson Green in an interview with Eurogamer summarizes this:
We've got shifts that are working 12 hours a day, seven days a week... [and] they'll never leave - for the next 10 years. There will be something new to do every single day.

To illustrate this point even more, I will describe a walk through of a typical day by a casual gamer in Destiny.
You come home from work/school and are ready to play Destiny. You may be a little mad at your boss for something he/she did, and you decide to take out that anger on some 'noobs' in The Crucible. You do really well in the first couple of games but then your performance starts to drop off. You realize that the AI roaming around in Old Russia are much easier to shoot in the face than the guardians who just dominated you in The Crucible. You go along and have a lot of fun shooting these aliens in the face when all of a sudden, your two best friends hop online and join you. You and your friends shoot around a bit until you realize you want a new challenge. You then decide that you are going to play a strike, and play on 'Legend' difficulty to challenge yourselves. The strike takes around 30-45 minutes and you leave the strike with a really rare helmet and story to tell about it. You and your fireteam go off to The Tower to show off your cool new gear, find some new bounties to tackle, and upgrade your spaceship. As you are there, you notice a 'time-specific' mission, with a celebrity from your favorite TV show offering an exclusive reward to those who complete it. You and your two friends complete it and all receive the exclusive reward that you can show off next week, to those who missed the mission. All of a sudden, three of your other friends hop online, but these guys are a little hardcore. They play Destiny all the time and are very high level. The three ask you and your two friends to play with them. You can either play The Crucible or something very high level, called a Raid. You personally are tired of The Crucible from earlier and decide that "why not, we'll try the Raid". The three high-levels are a bit hesitant, but eventually you convince all five of your friends to venture to 'The Vault of Glass', to try and get some really exotic loot. You first enter and three hours later, you have not even gotten past the entrance, after multiple tries. You then realize why Raids are called "high-level", and make it your goal to one day be powerful enough to beat the dreadful 'Vault of Glass'. But it's been a long day, and it's time to go to sleep, and you are already excited to find what new adventures await you tomorrow, in Destiny.

I would assume that "Comet One" would be separate from the DLC, I'm looking at this in how Call of duty is run, you get game then map packs then next game, the only difference will be that instead of next game you get next massive drop, not to say that the two planned DLC's are going to be small, because by the sounds of it between "Destiny and the 2 DLC packs that will make up the years worth of gaming."

We will then later get the "Comet 1 drop, I see that as being a massive expansion/patch for the game adding even more new goodies and new features."
as this is an online only game, I really do doubt that they'll then push for another GOTY edition of it, as the real core of their players will already have all the DLC's so to make money I'm sure they'll push for extra content, I can see that after this and the DLC come out the Comet 1 will probably slip back to spring/summer 2016 seeing as they're behind what the initial contract said.

That being said I do believe that Destiny 2 the next full game, will be the next truly next gen only title, from what bungie have always said about their new engine from day one is that it is very clever in that you can take parts, move them around and also essentially change things without having to build a new engine, so I will be excited to see how this will work, I find this the most fascinating of everything they've said.

As I truly believe that with this and destiny they'll be able to really make a truly expandable and fresh adventure with each alliteration. I'm also fairly certain that because this is an online only type shooter, that you'll actually not have to migrate a character from say ps3 > ps4 in the conventional sense as theretically it'll just be stored with that systems ecosystem ( ps+ xbl)

Alright GAF, silly question time. I loved the Alpha and cemented me purchasing the game but I was wondering have we seen anymore mean sound assault rifles ? In the alpha the assault rifle was fun but very 'pew pew' in its sound (at least all the ones I encountered) but I want a real mean sounding mother fucking assault rifle (as if it was ripped straight from the films HEAT's bank sequence). Any footage of something like that ?

Those Ign comments. I can't.

Windows phone not getting the app means bungie hates Xbox confirmed. People are saying stuff like that.
