BF Dragon's Teeth Launch - July 15th Premium/July 29th regular

Looks cool, but EA/DICE has to figure out a better monetization model for Battlefield.

Selling map packs may be making money for then now but in the long run it's hurting the user base including people who bought the maps and premium.

Right now there are very few servers running the DLC maps. With the exception of Naval Strike there is no guarantee you'll find games on maps for the first two map packs.

Maps should be free.
They likely make way too much money on Premium/map packs for this to be an option. They've monetized pretty much everything they reasonably can, so I think we're stuck with what we have.

I don't have a problem with getting games on DLC maps. My problem is people who seem to want to play on selected maps only. I find that really annoying. Does variety really bother people that much?

JackFrags video has very nice gameplay.

Again, thanks for the link ^ and thank you for the video, JackFrags, I enjoyed the impressions of Dragon's Teeth, as well as the gameplay footage.

Can't wait.

Now I wonder if the last BF4 DLC (Final Stand) will feature some huge wide open maps, maybe one that's even bigger than Bandar Desert in BF3 Armored Kill.

I miss Tank Superiority

Wonder when they are planning the release of the last DLC, maybe September? the gap between Naval Strike and this was like 4 months.

Looking at the new maps I can say I'm very interested in all of them, specially Sunken Dragon. Chainlink seems super interesting, and the new weapons all look good. Overall this could be their best DLC yet, only if we don't have a shitload of bugs and crap at launch, like how Naval Strike was.

Pretty much. They need to try a Valve TF2 type model where they sell cosmetic items. Tank skins, weapon skins, etc, I don't care. The maps should be free though since these map packs do nothing but split the community further.

I have Premium but I have barely played any of the non vanilla maps because all it takes is for one person I'm playing with to not have Premium and I'm stuck either playing vanilla or playing by myself. No way am I playing by myself so yeah lol.

Chain Link sounds cool, but I'm happier that there is CTF. I'm pretty pissed that CTF was behind a paywall..

I wish they'd make maps that were better for Rush though. Would be nice to see BC2 styled maps for an expansion. I wonder how these will play for Rush

10 new assignments

Unica 6

Activate the floodgates on the Sunken Dragon map
Get 5 kills while swimming (not in a round)

Desert Eagle

Obtain 20 Headshots using the Unica6 (not in a round)

Thank the Lords Of Kobol.

In a Round assignments are really bad for gameplay.

As for CTF returning... they ruined it in the last patch by making it 32 players instead of 64, so I don't really want to play it anymore.

they should try to experiment with a free map pack model. actually BF Hardline seems like a great candidate, do free map packs and see how many more copies you sell.

Really wish the weapons would just automatically unlock. Either way, I'm weirdly looking forward to this. BF4 has seemed to stabilize on consoles, played a few matches last night and had a good time.

If these maps are anything like the Aftermath maps in BF3. then this will be the best expansion to date.

So tell me, is this like a cross between Close Quarters and Endgame from BF3? You see, Close Quarter was my favourite and most enjoyed maps... until I moved to asian and found out that NO ONE plays it and only played Canal and Metro instead because they didn't want to spend further money on the game. Yes, I am still pissed about that so I am hoping for BF4 to fill the void.

Go watch some of his videos where he discusses the current state of the game. His criticisms are pretty devastating and not flattering to BF4.

Those happened only after he and others (LevelCap) where outed for being on the take to try and keep some subscribers and make people forget.

I watched his explanation video reacting to that controversy and it seemed pretty reasonable and contrite where necessary. I wouldn't describe his videos as "on the take" or say that's an accurate description of the situation as I understand it.

Anything to stop splitting the community. I have premium and want to play the DLC, but there's not nearly as many people playing it. I tried to do Rush on Naval Strike through quick match yesterday and ended up on a server with 3 people. I quit and tried again and ended up on the same server.

I'm just hoping that they bring some of the CTE fixes of along side the DLC. But looking at the map previews from Jackfrags and Levelcap.. These look like some really awesome maps. Naval Strike is pretty awesome (When it got fixed).

Second Assault is eh. Gulf of Oman would be better without the storm, maybe just have the main construction building fall and make it harder to get to that point. Metro would have been 100 times better if the just connected it to Seine Crossing. Fire Storm should have been switch out with Bazaar or Wake Island or any other better map. Caspian Border is kinda the only one that is okay the way it is. China Rising is just not good IMO

Obviously having maps be free is ideal. I wonder how the hell they got Bad Company 2 DLC to be free but they somehow did. Then afterward they reverted back to their old ways. I remember in BF2 days when I was that one guy in the group who didn't have the booster packs and having some of my friends play without me because I didn't have them. But it didn't matter because when I did play I played on the other team and assassinated them with my G3.

Having expansion packs dividing up the community is an issue that exists outside of Battlefield though. In fact, it's almost an inherit problem when it comes to having expansion packs for multiplayer games because it locks out a part of the community. Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm answered to this in a really good way though. People who only own RO2 could still play the RS maps, but they couldn't level up (in one of the most pointless and annoying unlock systems in an FPS) and they were limited to the Rifleman class.

Bad Company 2 only had 4 free maps; 2 of which were from Bad Company and 2 of which reused singleplayer missions. The rest were current maps in new gamemodes because not every map was playable in every gamemode unlike Bf3/4. I think people tend to forget that sometimes. Bad Company 2 had an illusion of free where in reality they held back gamemodes that should have been available at launch and trickled them out for "free". The actual new DLC, Vietnam and Onslaught, were paid

Ignoring those 4 maps BC2 only had 9 maps, some of which were only playable in certain modes at launch, compared to BC's 8 maps, BF4's 10, BF2's 12, and BF3's 9

Can't wait for this.
Better be up at EXACTLY midnight or I'm driving to LA and leaving a very well written, angry message for the developers.

Dear DICE LA/EA/Whoever is reading this
Where's my map pack?
Love,
dmg

PS
I just drove here from San Diego to tell you that I am very displeased, and you've gotten my skinny jeans all up in a bunch.

that`s not the problem! The problem is the "rent a server" option. People who rent a server then choose not to play on some of the DLC maps!

Always use the server browser.

Doesnt help when there are only empty server..

I wonder what their plan is for 2015.
Huh. I've never not had multiple servers to choose from. I suppose it depends on what you're trying to play. I play Conquest/Conquest large exclusively, so maybe that's why I don't have any issues.

Yep, conquest should be no problem. Finding a rush server on naval strike is much harder.. had no luck yesterday.

I'm also playing on Xbox One, which may contribute to it. I never have an issue with Conquest or Team Deathmatch though, even with the DLC. Rush is fine in the base game as well. I think it's just the combination of a less popular platform, less popular game mode, and having even less people available because of DLC maps.

Are the CTE fixes going to be in this? The gunplay changes of that are essential. As it stands, BF4 has the worst gunplay in the series since the original PC Vietnam - and its really made the game un-fun for me.

I watched his explanation video reacting to that controversy and it seemed pretty reasonable and contrite where necessary. I wouldn't describe his videos as "on the take" or say that's an accurate description of the situation as I understand it.

To be fair, most people never had any major issues to begin with. I can't say I noticed anything that would really hinder my gameplay experience even at launch. Obviously during beta they had pretty severe stuttering issues but that's why it's called beta, and they fixed those issues during the beta. Now that being said, of course I was aware of the latency related issues but I'm (sadly?) pretty used to Battlefield (starting from 1942) games having hit detection issues etc. In other games like Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat, I demand perfection when it comes to latency.

I think too big an issue was made out of the Battlefield problems. Of course it's not right that a game wasn't working properly for everyone but I feel like people were ready to hate the game because it was coming so soon after BF3 and Battlefield was supposed to be "our" game, and not do things like that "other" franchise does.

Anyway, looking forward to Dragon's Teeth, especially if it's slightly more infantry focused. I concur with people who on this very thread mentioned that they really enjoyed Close Quarters in BF3. Too bad we pretty much have to play the DLC right now because in few months, finding servers for this specific DLC will be hard.

Can't wait to see what Final Stand really is even though I doubt the new mode will be that unique after experiencing Titan mode which let me down. The premise of nukes and that crazy prototype drone to counter them could be cool assuming that's what I think it is.

Dragon's Teeth should be some fun assuming the netcode really has improved. I still haven't played in a while.

Yea, I can see how that would be an issue.

Free maps would definitely help, but again, cant see EA discarding all the money they make from Premium.

It's up on euro PSN for PS3/PS4 now, downloading it as we speak.
Downloading now on PC as well. At like 9MB/s average, too. I'm not a huge fan of Origin, but that's a pretty impressive download speed.

EDIT: Just had a spike to 19MB/s!

Haven't played in six months.

Chainlink might just lure me back. Been craving something more tactical than domination, but with an infantry focus. I really miss the lack of vehicle spam in BC2. It was a more infantry focused game and was just flat out better.

LevelCap and Xfactor have put out some interesting peeks at the maps and Chainlink. All of them look like quite a bit of fun. Battlefield DLC is usually pretty crappy (it gets farmed out to other studios) but these maps seem on point.

I especially appreciate the lack of high up rooftops, which will hopefully cut down on dumbass snipers spending the entire round there. Pearl Market looks absolutely insane.

Chainlink reminds me of Day of Defeat. I don't know if DoD allowed you to bypass a point to cut off the chain though.
