Lucas being the big exception. He was a starter in Brawl

Lucas has highly contested clone status anyway. His normals are dramatically different, not unlike Wolf.

He's heavily inspired by Ness's playstyle so he takes from him in that sense, but he's not as much of a clear-cut clone as say, Ganondorf or Toon Link.

There's still hope.

gfs_98503_3_1.jpg

...I'll take Dixie solo . Kiddy is an abomination and shouldn't see the light of day again after dkc 3.

it was Aversa right /s

Doesn't explain the other robin lol.

To be honest I don't care about Lucina That much but Marth has gotten much worse in every installment and he looks really bad in Smash 4. I'll reserve judgement until I try him.

Lucina has shown to be more my style of character than the new Marth. If she's faster than him I'll be even more happy. I hate slow characters and Marth is very slow to me in Brawl.

By the way I like Falco more than Fox. I just used it as an example.

That's so weird to me. Even though I definitely felt the changes in transitions between games, Marth wound up the most flexible character I played in both the Melee/P:M and Brawl environments so I never really felt like I wanted or needed a replacement for him. The only thing that's happened in between games is that I felt that I wanted a sword draw "iaido or battōjutsu" based swordsman, especially one that could incorporate projectiles into their play, hence my constant support for Takamaru nearing fevered pitches. I'll more than likely stay Marth once more, but I do see where you're coming from better now.

Lucas is also the least cloney clone out of all the clones. :p But yeah.

Didn't someone say that Robin uses the Levin sword when he/she can't use tomes anymore.

It's a possibility but nobody knows for sure. It's also possible he starts w/ it and then loses it when the charges are gone. Who knows?! Maybe we'll find out tonight?

Even if the Corocoro doesn't actually show the whole roster... what do you guys think of the chances that Sakurai shows the entire thing before release anyway? He has expressed frustration over people seeing the SSE cutscenes on YouTube, and any characters not officially revealed will be known within hours of the 3DS version coming out in Japan, so...

I wouldn't be tremendously surprised if, at the very least, we know every newcomer by the time the game releases.

No way to know, but I assume the levin sword like his more powerful tomes have limited usage before it breaks. I assume the base level spells and the bronze sword are infinite use

We don't know yet. I'm really interested in how his how destructible weapon system works; really glad they're bring that over in some form from Fire Emblem.

We don't know, but I'm pretty sure the Bronze Sword breaks after being used a certain amount of times.

Didn't someone say that Robin uses the Levin sword when he/she can't use tomes anymore? Or was that disproved?

I guess it's still up in the air, hopefully Sakurai will clear that up with tonights potd.

If a Rhythm Heaven character ends up happening, I think this will be the best batch of newcomers (personally speaking) ever, which is really great and funny considering people often say that these later Smash games will scrape the bottom of the barrel:

Robin - Holy god yes. The one FE character I truly wanted, and he/she plays just how I imagined. Still waiting to hear how/if weapon durability is incorporated.

Lucina - A clone of one of my favorite characters is fine by me. I was hoping maybe she'd be coupled with Chrom. Honestly Chrom being relegated to Robin's FS feels odd to me, but I'm still very satisfied about how all the Awakening stuff was handled.

Mii Fighters - Very pleased with how they were implemented. I personally want to make my Mii a Gunner. I think no Miis online is silly though. I get why, but maybe they could just make the Mii associated with your NNID playable online? And moderate which Miis can be used as avatars? That seems reasonable I think.

Palutena - Honestly I would've been happy with any new KI character because Uprising is my GOTY for 2012, but Palutena was probably my favorite. Her implementation has me curious, with all the KIU powers being her specials, but I have no doubt she'll be fun to play.

Pac-Man - The one new 3rd party (after Mega Man) I wanted and thought was fitting. I knew Sakurai would do him justice. I think with all these male/female alts, a Ms. Pac-Man alt would be amazing (I had a Ms. Pac-Man machine growing up, and if my gaming enthusiast grandfather were still around to see that he'd flip).

Greninja - Admittedly, Greninja isn't my favorite Gen 6 starter, but that's not saying too much, because all of the XY starters were great. Honestly I would've been thrilled with Chesnaught (probably my favorite Grass type ever, plus Spiky Shield would've been cool in Smash), but Greninja is still an amazing Pokemon and looks hella fun. Plus more ninjas.

Little Mac - One of the biggest "icons" I thought had been missing from Smash. I love Punch Out, and I love that they went with the Punch Out Wii design. He's just a good character.

Wii Fit Trainer(s) - I love the inclusion of this character. SSB4 needed a character in the vein of Game & Watch or R.O.B. and WFT is a great character to fill that role. Wacky and fun, just like I like my characters.

Mega Man - I don't have the words to describe how happy I am about Mega Man's inclusion. It's a dream come true. Thank you Sakurai.

Villager - As much as I like all the other newcomers, this is far and away my favorite. Animal Crossing is probably one of my favorite Nintendo properties, and after Sakurai's post-Brawl comments about including an AC character, I didn't have much hope. So imagine my suprise when my #1 most wanted character was the first one announced for Smash 4.
No Rosalina love? The only Stand user in the Smash universe.

I personally think he'll keep things secret. He knows the importance of surprise, as evidenced by Kid Icarus Uprising's twists.

Or maybe we'll get another Smash Direct with all the characters before the magazine comes out.

I think Dixie and Diddy can easily be unique characters on their own and because of that, I'm not a fan of the pair up idea.

I agree. It's more that I personally enjoyed the pair up idea, and wished that it had returned in a better fashion this time around. I guess it was worded oddly but I found rotations/pairs to be unique, not saying Diddy or Dixie weren't unique. I'm actually really happy about everything in the game so far, but would've enjoyed new pairs/rotations.

Some of you people make it out to seem like Sakurai is going to ignore all the feedback he received from E3 and just going to leave everything as it is.

I think that's implied in the trailer - he says something to the effect of, "my tomes will run out, that's why I brought my Levin Sword!" - but it's not proven either way.

Ahhh more waiting lol

We will likely know all the newcomers before launch with the newcomer trailers which we know we have a few left. I imagine like Mario Kart 8 if corocoro isn't the big blow out we'll get a smash launch direct that shows the whole roster

No Rosalina love? The only Stand user in the Smash universe.

Shit how could I forget her!

Rosalina - Stand user, awesome. One of the best Mario character, awesome. Space goddess that commands baby stars, awesome. She's a representative from one of my favorite Mario games of all time, plus she's just a well-designed character. I love Rosalina. Plus she's my MK8 main.

How does Robin switch between his bronze sword and Levin sword? Or we don't know yet?

Not enough info, although I'm also curious as to how the spells work. I assume the type of spell is dependent on customization (i.e. lightning, fire, wind, etc) but is it limited to one spell book per life? Can Robin pull out more spell books during battle a la Peach's turnip?

If we're talking wishlists...

Nintendo pls

Hey, if we can get a Rayman trophy for the Wii U version, why not Bravely Default trophies on the 3DS? Also, looking at that render makes me realize just how similar her and Lucina are in appearance. Would make for a great alt. Even just a color scheme would be fine by me.

As for Dark Pit, like people have said, there's some great potential for gameplay here. He could just have Pit's old Brawl move set which is very appropriate considering his Up B. Would just need a new Final Smash. But, considering the other alts, I'm sure he'll just be a special alt selection with an alternate voice.

Unlike Robin, all the other FE characters use infinite use weapons(what a bunch of jokers). I have to wonder if they will have the exact amount of uses for each weapon he has.

Did nintendo publish Bravely default anywhere?

There's no way bronze sword doesn't have infinite uses. You can't have a smash character that is 100% useless after a while :p

We've seen Robin have his/her Levin Sword out along with a tome out, but we haven't seem him/her use any tomes while having the Levin Sword out.

Something I've considered with Lucina:

How long do you think it takes those New character videos to be made? Is it possible that the Lucina animation we saw in there really were just cut/paste for the time being? I mean, if that video was made 3-6 months ago, she could have an entire new set of animations.

I say this because it looks like everything after Chrom's "Not today" looks like it was edited in way after the fact. Also, I find it odd that the only time we saw Capt. Falcon in gameplay was being attacked by Robin's final smash. We didn't see a single animation from him. Again, I feel this hints at the idea of the videos are pulling from game play that could be months old.

Does anybody remember how to get the full sized art from the official website? Like, I know you put og somewhere in the URL for the image but I forget how it goes.

Thanks in advance, I'm making a wallpaper!

And then after 50 sword strikes...

Ninty did in NA I believe. I guess Europe too...?

Yeah, the chrom text at the end made it seem like it was added in after they made the trailer, but maybe not. Maybe sakurai thought it was cool.

In every region but Japan.

Well, alright then! Bring on the bravely default trophies! (I own the game and had no idea)

1) The gameplay probably doesn't take all that long to capture and is likely spliced in afterwards. It could be done months in advance, it could've been done last week. Impossible to tell.

2) Capt Falcon uses his side b and side tilt right at the start of the gameplay footage.

Sakurai pretty much admitted to Lucina being a Marth clone.

Captain Falcon did his side B and forward-tilt during the trailer

edit: welp

Unlockable characters or not, there's really no easy way to have secret characters in this day and age. A new player who's somehow managed to avoid everything on the internet but still interested in playing online first thing they do with the game could very well have one of the late-game unlockables spoiled within the first five minutes of booting it, and then the surprise is gone.

Keeping characters secret can be fun if you're in absolute control of everything, but with the prevalence of the internet and online play and living in a world with leaks and embargo breaking, having a strict plan for news doesn't always pan out and could snowball out of control, and it also prevents you from using those characters in marketing - which might very well make a few extra sales.

There's still merit to having unlockable characters, since it gives you a lot of longevity with the game, but I think we might be moving away from secret characters as a whole.

http://www.smashbros.com/images/og/XXXX.jpg

With the XXXX obviously replaced with the character's webpage name, which follows their Japanese name, not localized (if it differs)--so like Robin would be "reflet."

And Olimar is just "pikmin."

Honestly? I don't think much will change.

Yeah, I hope I'm wrong - I hope the aerial landing lag after attacks will be significantly reduced across the board, and that, in general, movement options will be much improved.

I don't see it happening, though.

We've seen Robin have his/her Levin Sword out along with a tome out, but we have seem him/her use any tomes while having the Levin Sword out.

Every time the tome is used in screenshots or the video, no, it's been the bronze sword.

The closest we've seen is the animated opening had Robin cast a tome with the Levin Sword.
