Because he's the perfect candidate for a retro character to be added, he'd have some unique abilities for himself. Nintendo has been stuffing him in a lot of things lately. Not only that but Sakurai has said that he'd like to bring him in one day. Although he said if he were to get a new game. But still!!
minus Ridley, K. Rool, Snake and Takamaru would be more safe to go with. We are not even sure that they would be in the game. Sorry for being negative nancy because I don't want to get my hope high.
Hmm, I don't really mind that but I'm not sure if Nintendo would do that but it could solved the problem with unlocking DLC for 3DS and Wii U.
Agree with your comments on Ridley, K Rool, and Takamaru, as I said above I'm only expecting Shulk and a Rhythm Heaven character left for newcomers to not disappoint myself when the final roster is confirmed, especially if we end up not getting dlc.
Unless Nintendo announces unified accounts (LOLOLOLOLOL... :[ .... ) that really does make the most sense as it helps to promote the sales of amiibos and doesn't punish people who want to buy both games and have all the characters. I imagine the idea of tying dlc to amiibos is that once your at the store you might impulse buy another character or two along with the dlc character amiibo which is just more money for Nintendo.
There's nothing wrong with being happy that you got someone you like, and a bit of ribbing is totally fine too, but when people harp on endlessly about it, and take any opportunity to lord it over others that didn't get something they want, that's pretty lame.
I'm disappointed about Chrom, but I don't feel the need to put down Lucina fans. Overall I think the roster is great, like really, really great. Sakurai has been hitting it out of the park, but even a great roster will still have its disappointments, and I think people need to remember what it's like to not get something you'd looked forward to for a long time.
Let me tell you, man. When you're on this side of having the veterans you want (Ike and Captain Falcon) and the newcomers you want (Palutena, Little Mac), the deal with it shades just slide on and you tune out the complaints. Lucina got in over Chrom? No Shulk? Ridley too big? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of me already getting everything I wanted.
Honestly had it not been for the Gematsu leak I'd assume if we had 2-3 characters left at this point I'd probably be expecting something like Shulk, Takamaru, and either Dixie Kong or Ridley. I probably wouldn't consider a Rhythm Heaven character at all TBH.
Honestly, if he's not in Smash 4, it'll be around, if not more, than 2 decades without Ridley being playable in Smash, or possibly any second (or third if you want to go by roster slots) Metroid character at all until Smash 5... I'd take Judge Ridley over nothing.
1- Melee brought back Ice Climbers as a retro character, Brawl brought back Pit as a retro character, people are hoping Smash 4 does something similar and brings back another retro character.
2- Sakurai previously made a mention ago ut wanting to bring back a retro character for this game, http://www.officialnintendomagazine...-characters-back-to-smash-bros-wii-u-and-3ds/
And so far none of the newcomers you'd really classify as such. Pac Man is still around (yes Ghostly Adventures counts, no we're not going to talk about it), Mega Man was killed around the same time Sakurai would have been asking for permission to use him, Little Mac had already been revived in Punch Out Wii, everyone else is new.
3-Takamaru's series almost out of nowhere returned in Nintendo Land lead to a lot of western gamers first being exposed to his franchise
yes it was probably that they already had the shuriken throwing tech demo and just picked Takamaru as the closest thing to a franchise that it'd make sense for
4- Takamaru's game has gotten a lot of teases towards an international release
5- He just has a cool design and would be pretty unique
Honestly from the very beginning I was expecting a Takamaru trailer to coincide with a "we're releasing his game on the VC today for WiiU and 3DS so please check it out and be ready to play as him when Smash Bros launches"
Honestly, I would love to see Takamaru to be playable character so bad but I don't want to get my hope high. I want to point out one thing.
I'm pretty sure that it was old character, not retro character; so it could be a reference to Little Mac since the main focus of Little Mac is Punch Out Arcade. Also we got Pac Man (Arcade moveset) and Mega Man (8-Bit NES).
I truly hope that it's retro character and it would be nice if it's Takamaru after all.
- I'm stupid and get attached to old properties of Nintendo
Shoutouts to StarTropics; Mike I still gotcha
. His inclusion in the Smash 4 roster would create some cool thematic ties in the form of:
-- Takamaru vs. Little Mac - East v West, also the success stories from Captain Rainbow wherein both wanted to get over some character flaw and become popular Nintendo faces again
-- Takamaru vs Greninja & Sheik: Takamaru canonically fights ninja foot soldiers on his quest
-- and Takamaru v Link v Pit v Samus: The Famicom Four, aka the heroes of the big Nintendo releases of 1986 (The Legend of Zelda & Metroid) and their direct offshoots/sister series (The Mysterious Murasame Castle & Kid Icarus) would all be present and accounted for.
- Smash only ever seems to highlight sword users who fit either the knight or European fencer style of swordsmanship. (Other characters get bladed weapons to compensate for another bigger aspect of their design). Meanwhile, sword draw/iaido/battojutsu is a very visually distinct and cool as fuck style of sword combat that continues to go ignored (RIP in peace Lyn).
- Takamaru also comes with an assortment of funky support items and projectiles to play long range with. (Fireballs of varying size and effect, throwing knifes, garb that turns him invisible/intangible, and as per NintendoLand throwing stars)
Suggesting Mike even be a Ness clone should be grounds for you to be evicted from the thread. Give me a funky all Yo-Yo trick fighting style a la Guilty Gear's Bridget, then we're in business. We don't have any flail users after all.
I'd say most of it is wishful thinking given all the little things that may or may not be connected at this point. I know I'm operating on hopium right now, especially since only a week prior I was all but convinced that the Gematsu second leak's character list was all we'd see thanks to the arguing in the fan base.

Or it just set us up for false hype and when the only remaining newcomers end up being Shulk and a Rhythm Heaven character instead of keeping expectations in check like we did when everyone was 100% into Gematsu now people's expectations are though the roof again and are more likely to come crashing down.

I never fault anyone for having this opinion honestly. Even for as much as the series means to me (second video game I ever played; got it as a joint present from my mother and aunt who were HUGE gamers and the ones that got me into the hobby properly) I recognize that it was one of those "should have been there" kind of games. I still think the general premise and design has potential but that's a discussion for another thread.

I liked the first one even though it has some baffling design decisions that could screw you over if you don't know exactly what to do. The second one kinda lost something with the changed movement.
And yeah, it's kinda screwed by not having the nostalgia factor for Japan.
