Great summary, Ash.

- I'm really, really trying to be concerned about Marshall/the Chorus Men now, but a seed of doubt has wormed its way into my mind. After being so sure about Sal's leak for so long, I'm now a little worried since Shulk and whoever the Rhythm Heaven rep ends up being are no longer a certainty. I know I said I still think Sal's leak is legit, and I do, but I can't help but be a bit concerned only because a Rhythm Heaven rep would be super fucking awesome.

Well, remember the Sneaky Spirit in Smash Run? I'd like to think that means a Rhythm Heaven character is in the works.

Shit, just realized the fire magic detail is totally right (checked the trailer again)! Awesome detail there.

1. Anna: I've already farted enough all over this thread about why she's great. Long history with the franchise, funny, distinctive, etc. Will never complain about a Smash roster ever if this happened. The odds of her actually being DLC though are lol, though.

2. Takamaru: Since we're never getting Lyn, I'd love to see Takamaru as a swordsman repping iaido (which is the coolest sword-fighting technique ever). He's got some cool tools aside from just his sword (which would put him in Robin and Link's camp in terms of moveset diversity) and I'd really like to see him.

3. Inkling: There is crazy amounts of potential in Inklings and I'd love to see them in the context of Smash. Spraying down stages and zipping around on them as a Down-B'd Squid (or something) would be awesome.

Going to just +1 this and be stupid at the same time and say Mike Jones is my #0 pick because yo-yo tricks + his leveling yo-yo mechanic + his athleticism could really make for a fun move set.

all this discussion about Awakening Anna is pointless, because we all know she's really the RNG goddess

RNGezus incarnate.

Hey I know this probably isn't the right place to post this in but maybe somebody can help point me in the right direction. It is somewhat related to smash bros.

I'm trying to mod a gamecube controller to work with a 2DS/3DS for the purpose of playing Super Smash Bros 4. I know some people might think of it as points/ridiculous but I refurbish 2DS' and have some extra ones lying around to experiment on. This whole project is more for fun and a learning experience. Anyways I've come across this website which has helped a lot but I don't speak Japanese and it's become quite hard to continue.

I wanted to see if anyone has done something like this or can point me in the right direction. It looks like this guy on the website has modded several 3DS' in different ways. So I believe it can be done.

Sneaky Spirit is a dead giveaway if only because no other enemies in smash run (aside from SSE leftovers) have been from franchises without a playable rep so far (also practically confirms ice climbers due to the presence of the polar bear). If they were including enemies from non-playable franchises I think we would've had to have seen another example by now.

So Shopto have the game listed for 21st November, won't link as pretty sure I saw someone mention that you can't link to there on here. If you look for the game + pad combo it has that date.

They also have a Mario red pad, Princess Pink pad and Yoshi White and green Pad dated for 14th November.

Sorry for the lack of pics, I'm on phone.

godspeed man.

I'll have you know that if you can figure this out you'll have thousands of Smashers willing to send you their 3DS, GC controller and money to make a mod for them.

If you can get this to work you will probably be a god online instantly.

I married Anna in my current FE:A playthrough, yet I've never really wanted her playable.

Personally, I'm just happy with the surprise Lucina/Robin combo.

Holy crap, Scrooge McDuck would be so awesome. My Top 3 fantasy DLC characters would be:

1. Mog (with spear and dance ability)
2. Crono (from Chrono Trigger, just because of this music)
3. Inkling

If there are DLC Assist Trophies Ouendan/EBA, Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton are all AT's I would like. But why wait for DLC, they should be in anyway.

Anybody think that its possible 3rd parties may get a stage but not a character? Like Rayman could be represented by the trophy and possibly a Rayman Legends stage on Wii U but not actually have him playable.

Yeah, I actually thought that might be the case when they showed the Rayman Trophy. I'm also hoping we can get AT's that aren't tied to the same series as the 3rd Party rep. Ulala as a Sega AT and Phoenix Wright as a Capcom AT would be earth shattering.

Girl dodged like six or seven 70% chance to hit attacks in a row when I first saw her. She's got Lady Luck in her pocket for sure.

I'd actually strongly considering getting this mod if this happened, haha. Good luck!

I'm personally not too worried about controlling the game on my 3DS - but time will tell if it's any trouble at all. The one thing that I'm anticipating being a problem is smash attacks, I fear for my poor circle pad. I should probably look into a way to protect that before I get too crazy with it.
I'm sure there are analog stick cover thingies for it or something like that?

I'm really hoping to figure it out. You should check out the website. That guy has done some crazy mods. So I know it's possible.
Hahaha it's a risk I'm willing to take! If I can do it, I might even be willing to mod other people's 3DS'(depending on how hard it is) I'll definitely keep you in mind though :D heck if I figure it out and it's easy I'd even post a tutorial

IIRC, there is one other enemy from a franchise not represented by a playable rep: the Yellow Ghost (which I'm fairly sure is represented by the Find Mii crown symbol and not by the Smash logo which the Mii Fighters are tied to) so a Rhythm Heaven playable character is by no means guaranteed.

Here's something fun: now that Captain Falcon is confirmed, rank the remaining unconfirmed Brawl vets (plus Mewtwo, I guess) in terms of how much you care about them returning in Smash 4! My list:

1. Ness
2. Ice Climbers
3. Jigglypuff
4. Falco
5. Mewtwo
6. Mr. Game & Watch
7. Ganondorf
8. Lucas
9. Meta Knight
10. R.O.B.
11. Snake
12. Wolf
13. Squirtle
14. Ivysaur
15. Wario

Never could stand Wario or Waluigi as characters, sorry! Though to be honest, if only like my top seven unconfirmed vets up there made it into Smash 4 and the rest were cut, I wouldn't really be *too* sad about it. (Shots fired, I know. :P)

Don't know what Shopto's rep is for this kind of thing, but I could certainly see it released around that timeframe (though I'm expecting early December considering it was set for "Winter 2014").

They also have a Mario red pad, Princess Pink pad and Yoshi White and green Pad dated for 14th November..

FYI, those are the PDP controllers that are basically Classic Controllers in GCN-inspired shells, not the official GCN controllers that Nintendo is releasing.

Your top three DLC character requests if they don't make the main roster?

GO
1. Medusa- she was the weakest part of KI:U but her redesign and moves could make her a great character to play as. Hades for some reason I get the feeling he would move like Ganondorf which wouldnt be much fun even if Hades had a better role in Uprising.

2. Sceptile- Best Grass starter and moves pretty well to make him a pretty good fighter with a hose of signature moves such as Leaf Blade, Bullet Seed, Leaf Storm, Solar Beam, Energy Ball, etc.

3. Impa- a nimble sheikah with shadow magic from being one of the shadow sages. Her movepool could draw from Sheik in SSB and her skill sets in SS, OoT and HW.

- Upon further reflection (and other people have said this already), I don't think Monday's non-Shulk reveal debunks the Sal Romano leaks. His leaks never claimed to know/have everything, and this is really no different at all from when Rosalina was revealed even though she had never been in a Sal Romano leak either. I think Sal's leak gives us one (big) part of the overall picture, but Sakurai and his team have done an incredible job keeping things under wraps, so naturally it's not going to have everything. The bit about Chrom being on the list does hurt its legitimacy, but more and more it's sounding like the guy who's giving Sal his info might not even know who Chrom actually is. (Plus, there's also the thing about the GameFAQs post from over a month ago saying Lucina would be getting in but not Chrom, which is interesting if nothing else.) The fact remains that 8 out of 11 (so far) is a really great ratio that gives the leaks a lot of credence. The fact ALSO remains that two of those leaked characters were Wii Fit Trainer and Mega Man, the former of whom literally zero people would have ever guessed (nor did they), and the latter of whom many had discounted due to Capcom murdering the character and franchise the way they have in the last few years. So yeah, I'm not anywhere near ready to call Sal's leak debunked; I just don't think it ever had the whole picture, nor did it ever claim to.{/QUOTE]

My theory for a while (even when people were 100% sure it was accurate) was that the leaker was operating from old information. He most likely saw a list of planned newcomers early in development, and just picked the ones he thought were most likely, hence picking Chrom over Robin or Lucina. That would explain why he didn't name Villager and Greninja correctly for sure. His information is probably at least 8 months old, and could be a year and a half old. A lot can change in that time.

That being said, a Rhythm Heaven rep seems pretty close to confirmed. We've seen a RH enemy in Smash Run and all. I think Shulk is in a lot more danger than Chorus Men (or whoever turns out to be the actual RH rep). We've seen no enemies or characters or environments that even suggest Shulk. We have literally 0 to go on for Shulk other than the Sal Romano leak. That's worrying. I'm not saying Shulk won't be in, obviously he was considered at one point in development, but he's hardly guaranteed.

Okay, I've been really busy with work since the Robin/Lucina/Captain Falcon reveal and haven't really had a chance to air my thoughts here on everything that's happened since, so I'll do so now in a rather random order:

- Sakurai is a master at misdirection and I love it. We were all so sure it'd be Shulk, and it totally wasn't, and while I still hope Shulk is in (mainly because I want the Chorus Men/Marshall), I love it. For the first time since Rosalina we really don't know what's coming next, and it's awesome. That said, Sakurai did still say we're nearing the end of the newcomer trailers, so I don't think it's wise to expect anything TOO outlandish. We're still getting to the end of the newcomers, surprise Robin/Lucina reveal or not.

- I can't believe there was ever any debate about what Lucina was. How could anyone have ever thought she was just an alt costume for Marth when she had her own box on the website? Some people...

- I'm not that knowledgable about Fire Emblem (I've only ever played the beginning of The Sacred Stones and the demo of Awakening), but *man* it really seems like people have gone from wanting Lucina like crazy to rallying against her very quickly (which isn't that uncommon for SmashGAF, I suppose). Is it because she's a clone? From what I understand about Awakening's story, there's not much else she actually could have been, so what exactly were people expecting with Lucina? I will say that it's a little disappointing that she seems to be the "cloniest" clone ever, though, with only one difference between her and Marth.

- I'm seeing a lot of disappointment about Chrom, too, which kinda surprises me. Wasn't the general sentiment about Fire Emblem reps in Smash already that there are too many similar-looking blue-haired sword users? Chrom would just have been another one of those, whereas Robin (even if I don't personally care about him/her) is a truly unique Red Mage-type character who breaks that Fire Emblem sword user archetype. Obviously Marth and Lucina are fast and lithe while Ike is powerful and slow; Awakening fans, what would Chrom have brought to the table that's unique? Would he have served as a sort of middle ground between Marth/Lucina and Ike? I'm curious as to what Chrom would have offered that people are disappointed they're missing out on.

- On the subject of Chrom, you people still fooling yourselves into believing he still has a chance at playable status really need to stop, if only to not drag out the disappointment into a slow, painful thing for yourselves. I don't have any feelings on Chrom either way so it's not personal, but it's been made clear as day that Chrom isn't playable; Nintendo even issued a direct statement after the reveal saying "Chrom is not playable in Super Smash Bros." It really doesn't get any clearer than that. If he somehow ends up being playable, though, I'll be happy to eat crow.

- I'm really, really trying not to be concerned about Marshall/the Chorus Men now, but a seed of doubt has wormed its way into my mind.

- I'm already set because I have Mega Man, but if a RH rep gets in along with Ness, Jigglypuff, and the Ice Climbers returning (now that Falcon is back), I'll pretty much have my perfect roster. :D

1. Rhythm Heaven rep
2. Dixie Kong
3. Wart (yeah right, heh)

Thanks! And yeah, I do, but I don't consider an enemy in Smash Run enough of a sign that we're definitely getting a Rhythm Heaven character. We already know there are logos for games/series that don't have any character representation in the game, like Pilotwings. My gut still tells me Shulk and a RH rep are coming, I'm just not 100% sure anymore...
Ash, never go to Vegas when Sakurai makes an awesome Smash reveal again. You were missed on GameXplain. I like listening to Batman and Robin, but it's just not the same without Nightwing.

With now four Fire Emblem reps being confirmed, do you guys think we're pretty much guaranteed a second FE stage? I know Star Fox only got one in Brawl with 3 reps, but still...too much potential for great stage ideas.

Awakening SPOILERS:
I need me some Grima's Back.

I actually want to see this myself, best of luck

I didn't realize how many people would be interested in this. I'm working on some sketches of how I would place things.

Right now all my ideas are being done with 2DS' because I have several to work with. However I could move to 3DS if it's easy enough. I'll see if I can post some of my designs for the mod tomorrow

wait what
Yeah, they mentioned that in the IGN Rewind Theatre. I'm hoping it's a game wide change, but I feel like they would have had the footage ready for this trailer a while ago. Lucina is probably just one of the faster characters.

Yeah, I actually thought that might be the case when they showed the Rayman Trophy. I'm also hoping we can get AT's that aren't tied to the same series as the 3rd Party rep. Ulala as a Sega AT and Phoenix Wright as a Capcom AT would be earth shattering.

I'd love to see a Nights stage from Sega and a Resident Evil 4 stage from Capcom. Also Castle Rock from Rayman Legends with Black Betty would be amazing.

Endgame/Grima is such an amazing idea for a stage and I will be really disappointed if it doesn't happen, haha. I'm just imagining fighting around on Grima's back while he flies over the Dragon's Table where a big war between Plegians and Ylisseans is happening or something. Would be amazing.

Regarding Chrom not making the cut... Personally, I -vastly- prefer Lucina and Robin, so it's all good in my neighborhood. But I do appreciate Chrom. In terms of what he could offer, he could be as good as Sakurai wanted to make him.

A couple cool ideas: An adult-sized Ice Climbers-style character in the form of "Chrom & Lucina," referencing Awakening's Pair Up mechanic (now seen in Robin's Final Smash). OR, a standalone Chrom who could conjure up his comrades for quick attacks, similar to Zelda's Phantom Slash. So hit B to call Robin for a quick spell, Forward B for Frederick to dash forward on his horse, Up B for a pegasus recovery with Sumia, etc. If it were technically feasible, and the designers were willing, it would've been really unique, at least from a visual standpoint.

But yeah, I'm cool with what we got. Ecstatic, even. Lucina was my favorite character in Awakening, and while I was indifferent to Robin in that game, his design looks great in Smash and they're doing amazing things with his move-set.

There's definitely a few Awakening areas that would be cool, but even as I was playing the final chapter, I was thinking how badass of a stage it would be. We already have the music confirmed, now we just need the arena to play it in!
