First impressions of The Last of Us: Remastered (Game Informer)

because they never bought the PlayStation 3 and probably cannot afford the PlayStation 4

It feels like some people are just eagerly waiting to pounce on them. Is there any reason why?

I'm guessing a large portion of that is due to it's success. 200+ awards, considered in many of people's top 5/10 games of the generation, and over 7 million copies sold already. Extremely successful games (especially exclusive games) will attract these kind of people.

I still remember that dedicated Watch Dog hater on this forum. He made an entire account wiith a Watch Dogs related name to anti-hype the game and every single one of his posts were about Watch Dogs.

Does anybody know if the pulse modes thing from the PS3 work on PS4 as well? I think there's no app there, but if I set my headset to The Last of Us, will it work as intended?

I guess they just play the cutscenes at 30 FPS dynamically. Otherwise this would never fit on the disc lol

That's what I'm thinking too.

If we're wrong though, it would be nice to have the option to download just the 60fps version (or 30 if you prefer) and then if you wanna switch you can download on the fly, kinda like the original game let you do with dub options. It's a great way to save some space.

That's a really interesting point, didn't know about this.

It'll be interesting to test with The Last of Us if even locked 60 benefits from locking it at 30 before playing on Vita.
I bet it will if there are even slight frame dips here and there. Remote play just doesn't resolve those well at all.

Subtle as ever. This thread needed you.

One of the previews mentioned extensive audio options, some of them specifically for headsets. I can imagine an app will accompany the game at release.

Thank you for the info, I'm the kind of person who would not even consider playing on Remote Play if the game is 60fps just because of the framerate, but for the people who would prefer playing it on Vita anyway, every game should have this option.

The ideal would be having a patch to improve how the capping works, I guess, but until then, it'd be nice if every unlocked game had this option.

I'm hoping they work the exact same way as they did on the PS3. The mix is pretty damn great with that headset.

Interesting you can play at 60 fps of 30 fps. Don't know why someone would pick 30fps if the game looks the same. I think for new games devs should be pushing higher fidelity and locked 30 fps for games over lesser graphics to hit 60 fps.

I'm going to cancel my pre order. Financial reasons since I am not playing video games much right now.
Thanks for the information
Those screenshots... it doesn't look quite impressive as I tought it would be since it's supposed to be a remastered version of a PS exclusive by Naughty Dog on PS4. Maybe because I was expecting graphics to look almost like the Uncharted 4 trailer. This only looks crisper and that's it, not much difference over the PS3 version. I'm sure it will look 99% better on screen with those FPS additions and stuff tough. :)
You must be joking

Not really. ND's lead programmer promised a constant 60fps.
So that means you expected it to never dip below 60fps?

Lol@ this thread. There isn't a major console game running at 60fps that doesn't drop a frame. None of them are ever truly "locked".

Can't wait for the comparison thread when the frames dip to the 50's. "OMG naughty dog lied to us! Preorder cancelled!"

And I actually didn't play that way yet, when the game came out I was still on the regular Pulse headsets, didn't have my awfully uncomfortable but awesome sounding Elites, so it would be my first time with the thingies

Locked framerates are not unicorns, and the word constant doesn't mean fluctuating.

But the real answer is this: If you notice frame drops in regular play then no, that's not locked or constant. I'm taking ND at their word that I won't notice frame drops.

Oh Please let the 30fps locked option apply to Multiplayer. I'll just get sick trying to play it. Single player won't be an issue but if I'm whipping the camera around it will bother me.

Did they confirm it's going to be either locked or constant? Regardless of what the technical meaning of any of them is?

EDIT: Sorry, read your posts before and you linked to a tweet that now I remembered reading too, so you're right. If we go by that, we should expect a constant experience.

Naughty Dog just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about remaster culture (I'm an expert), but a silky smooth 60FPS is a huge part of it. It's not like it is in brand new games where you can become successful by locking it to 30FPS. If you offer a 30FPS option, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the remaster purchasing public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase TLOU for either system, nor will they purchase any of Naughty Dog's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Naughty Dog has alienated an entire market with this move.

Naughty Dog, publicly apologize and remove the 30FPS option or you can kiss your business goodbye.

I think most reasonable people will be fine with dips that stay in the 50s.

Still doesn't really mean it won't dip below 60fps in "heavy" scenes
Keep your expectations in check. Because it seems like you played a lot of games with 60fps on consoles.
That tweet doesn't really promise there's no drops.

It's a Remaster built on legacy code, not a game built from the ground up on PS4.

Damn it's hard detect sarcasm in those days for me.

I want to know why I don't see all these people so worried about a constant 60fps in the Halo Remaster thread.

I'm kidding.

Yep, this is only a port of a game designed for the PS3's crazy-ass cell architecture. They haven't rebuilt the game from the ground up for new hardware. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see it drop below 60fps at times - ports are like that. Ask any PC gamer how Ubisoft ports run =P

I think maybe that's why they waited so long. At the end of the day, it's still a PS3 game. There's only so much they can do to improve and optimize it.

Yea, with that completely unrealistic expectation I could see why you would be disappointed.

Wholly fuck? Really? UC4?

The thread that keeps on giving

ROFL, were you seriously expecting that? It's called Remaster and not a Remake for a reason, it isn't built up from the ground and tailored with the console specs in mind like UC4.

You must be joking

Ok, yeah I exaggerated with the concept of TLOU Remastered having similar graphics as the Uncharted 4 trailer. It's a remastered version anyway and again, I'm 100% sure it will look crazy good on screen/motion with those new graphical additions.

Oh, right, will the remove HUD thing be only for screenshots or can I play this way? It would be interesting to play on Grounded and with no HUD, having to actually count your bullets would be an interesting experience.

Never forget: A "Remaster" isn't a complete "Remake"

The PS4 has the headset app, if that is what you mean. There doesn't appear to be a TLOU setting loaded into it yet, but since the setting is saved on the Headset after syncing, I wouldn't see why you couldn't sync TLOU setting from the PS3 app (if they dont upload it to the PS4 app) and then play the game on PS4. The settings are just tweaking the audio settings, so it should work.

Is that what you mean?

Hye guys what's the problem with 50/60fps instead of locked 60??

Please name a single game with solid graphics and solid 60fps.

No, COD isn't a good choice, because it isn't solid 60fps, altough noone ever criticized it for that... also, if you consider how bad the graphic is.. meh...

I've been able to play the game.

For a quick definition it's like playing the PS3 game on a high end pc. There are imrpoves in the IQ, fps and other effects like LOD, but it isn't a gamechanger.

That's exactly what I mean, and I didn't know the PS4 has that app.

Thanks for the heads up :D

Sounds like a game changer to me. Playing a PS3 game on a high end PC is fantastic.

Ground Zeroes.

When you play on Grounded mode it removes the HUD. You are in the dark, in the dark.

Wow, that's the best thing about the difficulty mode then! Sheeeit. Of course counting bullets would be too much, and the ~24 hour gap between sessions will probably make me forget, but that's part of the fun too, you're like "ok, come, I can take you down", and then *click click*.

I'm a perfectionist and always reload encounters any time anything goes differently from what I planned (even if I'm not even spotted), but just for that experience, I'll let things roll.

If I were to guess, the framerate will be like the Tomb Raider release on PS4, where it mostly stays in the 40-60 range, depending on what's going on.
Honestly, I thought that Tomb Raider ran fine on PS4. If TLoU runs the same then I'll be ok with it.
