First impressions of The Last of Us: Remastered (Game Informer)

Lol@ this thread. There isn't a major console game running at 60fps that doesn't drop a frame. None of them are ever truly "locked".

Can't wait for the comparison thread when the frames dip to the 50's. "OMG naughty dog lied to us! Preorder cancelled!"

This.

The whole " locked 60 " framerate thing just doesn't happen very often. No way you can make an engine that can handle say, 7 full LOD models with gunfire and explosions and such going on at the same rate as 2 LOD models just walking around.

Yeah, if you gimp the overall engine to where you are barely working it, then the 3x more action on screen will run the same as the 1x action, but yeh .. id much rather have a 60 to 45 fps hit for .01 seconds compared to my games looking like they were made in 2005 on mid-range hardware.

I think Resogun is the most impressive example of pure 60

I've been able to play the game.

For a quick definition it's like playing the PS3 game on a high end pc. There are imrpoves in the IQ, fps and other effects like LOD, but it isn't a gamechanger.

Playing the game of the generation on a high end PC is the definition of a gamechanger to me.

How stable is the framerate?

Wow, that's the best thing about the difficulty mode then! Sheeeit. Of course counting bullets would be too much, and the ~24 hour gap between sessions will probably make me forget, but that's part of the fun too, you're like "ok, come, I can take you down", and then *click click*.

I'm a perfectionist and always reload encounters any time anything goes differently from what I planned (even if I'm not even spotted), but just for that experience, I'll let things roll.

Not quite. You CAN check the health of your weapon or the number of bullets when you pull up your backpack to do something, but of course, because it's all real time, you can't do that in the heat of battle ... so your *click ... click ...* scenario is likely.

For what I played, no drops.

No action or gunplay, though.

Thanks!

Still promising to hear. :)

I realize it's a faulty comparison (and some games do reach it like Ground Zeroes) but I do think we have to be realistic in expecting there to be at least a few drops.

Again, faulty comparison, but look how far down my PC drops when benchmarking tomb raider even with a 120+ average:

Pretty close to not being truly "locked" if I was looking at hitting 90fps, and yet the average is so much higher.

Sounds cool. Even better, actually.

This guy gets it.

Yeah, it doesn't, which is why some are wary about games being described as 60fps when it can be anywhere from "yeah it sometimes reaches 60fps" all the way to "locked down like a law of physics 60fps", so people who value consistent framerates find themselves looking for specific terms, like "locked" and "constant", which communicate that the framerate is locked as makes no difference.

And it was a programmer who used the word constant there in that tweet - I'd think he'd know to use that term on purpose ;p

So close now :)

2 whole weeks left. Man....this wait is agonizing.

yeh starting tomorrow we atleast have Destiny to keep us busy. Then Oddworld for me on the 22nd.

Then got Wild Arms 2 on that flash sale recently and playing Dragons Crown. So, think im good to go to beat this wait. Can't wait. Didnt play the DLC or much of the multiplayer due to framerate.

I URGE PEOPLE. DO NOT DO THIS:

When asked:

"i played through tlou ps3 but not "left behind". can i jump right into left behind on tlou ps4? or does it need to be unlocked?"

Meyer replied:

"you can play it right away."
