First impressions of The Last of Us: Remastered (Game Informer)

Funny that you mention that, but a lot of older movies (Aliens included) suffered from the "peek behind the curtain" problem due to clarity of HD transfer making props look far more fake than they looked on DVD.

Unless they shot on Dtape or 18mm, that's strictly a production issue.

35mm film has an effective resolution of around 4-6k and was originally played back at that on the silver screen.

Cheaper movies and sitcoms for sure, but any effects and props artist worth a damn since the 70s FX revolution were able to movie magic realistic looking props.

I'm glad they're putting a 30 fps option in. I'll try it both ways, and pick whichever I like the feel of more. Sometimes I'm okay with 60, but 60 can just make some games feel off, or janky

That's because the framerate jumps around. A stable 60 fps is very smooth.

It would be negative if the choice was presented at the beginning?
That would be OK but I want people to give it a shot at 60. I think it'll change some minds. I would only have issue if it defaulted to 30 and you had to dig in the options menu for 60.

This is a good example...

Snake running feels off and unnatural in 60fps compared with 30fps.

The game is amazing but I noted this awkward comparing the 30fps vs 60fps.

When was the game ever 30fps to compare the two? I can't imagine it was worse at 30. Was ps3 version 30?

Menu digging wouldn't be ideal for either setting.

Nice if they offered a selection up front.

I'm really just excited to play it again.

I preferred the "60 FPS" option of Infamous: Second Son rather than 30, tbqh. It'll probably be the same thing with TLoU Remastered. It's nice to have options, I guess.

Developers on PS4 should just try to get everything locked at 60 FPS moving forward.

Man, only on GAF do you see folks going nuts over other people having a choice to play the game how they want it.

I don't think it's wrong to include the option, it's literally a single setting flip.

I just think it's funny that some people might want to play a game at 30 FPS when 60 FPS is an option.

PS360 are 30fps... I'm fine with 60fps but snake running in 60fps is really unnatural compared with 30fps.

That was the first thing I noted when I watched the Phantom Pain gameplay video in 60fps too :D

Lord have mercy.

This intolerance seems to stem from a certain bitterness of having been force-fed low framerates for 9 entire years. But it's still so silly to revel in bitterness. Be happy about the 60 and be glad that all doubters now have a chance not only to experience the alleged benefits of what you have always deemed to be superior but are also able to easily compare both framerates ingame. Might convert quite a lot of people. Insulting 30fps-ppl just serves to create rebels. I don't get you guys.

Hope the 30 FPS lock option is just there for the strange people who think 60 isn't cinematic, as opposed to an indication that the framerate that roams over a broad range from 30 to 60.

I'm someone who prefers some games at 30fps, but I've never had a huge problem with adjusting to 60fps when necessary.

But having read the amount of the framerate fascists in here spouting off insult after insult at people over what is clearly a subjective preference, I'm going to petition every goddamn dev from now on for a 30fps mode, just because I know that the fact that it exists will piss you off.

Random person: 'I prefer listening to vinyl rather than CD or FLAC!' GAF: 'You're a CUNT and you should fucking DIE.'

Done with this shit thread.

It would have been ok to give that option if it also gave an option to get better effects with the lower 30 fps framerate, but having no option to change effects with lower frame rate is a very weak. Why even give this option if that's the case? The only conclusion I can come up with is that the 60 fps option is unstable, which is also very disappointing considering the better hardware.

Don't worry, other people are also finding your comments amusing. Fun for everyone!

I can't imagine a reason you'd offer such a feature unless it wasn't stable.

Maybe they offered it for people who feel like 60fps is "weird" for a game like this? Maybe.

There was a rumour that PS4 owners would be able to play PS3 owners online. That would be a decent reason to have a 30fps option.

I hope this is a joke post

This! Fuck this thread. I've got better shit to do than to listen to your arrogant whining.

I didn't know that. Interesting. What if they included an option for sprinting to be 30fps? Lol.
Lol no ;)

I'm just giving a example... maybe the animation is off in 60fps and they need to work better.

Btw I already saw some friends having motion sickness with 60fps action games (eg. CoD)... it happens... I think something like when I tried to read a book inside a car and I had nausea... I stopped, take a breath and started again until feels nausea again... I did that every day going to work until didn't have nausea anymore... today I can travel reading books for hous without any issue.

People needs to get used to 60fps... some will have issues but they will get there.

On a side note, say what you want about me but I have always been consistent. Watch some people flip flop on the frame rate thing when the next big game on their favoured platform fails to be a locked 60fps, or locked 30fps for that matter.

I bookmarked the early DF analysis thread of Sunset Overdrive for this particular reason.

The ONLY people and I mean the ONLY people that can be like "waaaaah it goes from 60 to 55 I can't handle this" are people that are playing all their games on a PC with a locked 60 being forced. Everyone else that has been playing on consoles including Nintendo are getting exactly what 60 fps has always been.

if its not locked, its not locked.

and how can you put your own arbitrary rules on if it can bother people or not?
example if it drops 5 frames when I aim to shoot, then its a bad drop. if it drops 5 frames when I dont do anything, then its not bad. until we see, how can we say?

nice to see the director standing behind the claim for 60. <<60hz all the way for me>>

Damn dude. Really?

As a remaster, which is supposed to be technically superior, it should default to the highest performance settings.

I'm actually shocked people would prefer a solid 30 FPS over a solid 60 FPS (*if* this does turn out to be a pretty solid 60 FPS game), but eh whatever.

There is that too. People underestimate how much more nauseous 60FPS makes some people when they look fast moving camera scenes. This is especially true for someone looking at the screen while you're playing the game.

Again, condescending. Tell that to people who want to puke after 10 minutes of watching me play some FPS in 60FPS.

They'd feel much worse if the framerate was 30 instead of 60, and the priority is that it must feel better for the player, not necessarily for the watchers. The less fluid the movement is and the worse my mates feel. And in my experience the nausea is usually much more related to FOV than framerate. You're underestimating a lot of facts.

My anectodes > yours
