The problem with the rumor mill in Dojo is it seems a bit off in some points.
However, I can believe Dr. Mario and Dark Pit will be skins. There is one part of the rumor that I can believe: "Ganondorf and Meta Knight are revealed in the Shulk trailer"
I believe Captain Falcon and Ganondorf are not unlockables anymore. Ganondorf is the next vet reveal I bet.
 
So, I managed to get my hands on a copy of this week's edition of Sakurai's "Think About the Video Games" column (thanks, Ryce!). Enjoy!

Certain Character got cut is pretty much Chrom, and Lucina used to be alt character but now become standby character. Nothing about filling out void right?
 
I don't really know how to structure my counter point so I'm just going to throw things at the wall and see what sticks.

I think to start off a I should probably note that we both have different opinions of what a "considerable jump in speed [from Brawl?]" is, currently the game for me is at a slight increase in speed, even if the game went full on melee mode in terms of speed, I still wouldn't consider that a considerable jump.

Yeah, I don't care for this.

Anyway, the falling and movement speeds of characters might be better, but I think when you add all the lag in between it can slow down the overall pace of the game.

For some characters, and fewer still moves.

It's like the comparison between a fast car, a slow car and a fast car that is constantly stalling, if you're used to the fast car, you'd probably prefer the slow car to the one that's constantly stalling because the potential just isn't being reached by the banger that keeps on stalling, it would feel disappointing.

All car analogies are terrible analogies. If landing lag is the one and only thing someone cares about in the game, choose the character with the least lag, and lag on the fewest moves since it'd be better than having to use a redundant input every time you did anything.

I don't know if that analogy makes sense to anyone but myself, but that's how I feel is the easiest way to describe it.

There's so much more to the game than something as trivial as the landing lag in making the game competitive, IMO, it doesn't work. Not for me at least.

Also, I don't think the fact that people move and fall faster means that they should remove to ability to cancel projectiles, all that does is make projectiles useless because you're stuck in an animation where the opponent is able to use the increased movement speed to make punishing much easier.

Having played Project M, not being able to cancel the lag in projectiles for most characters is welcome, though longer lag is pointless in characters like toon Link.

Things should be high risk - high reward and low risk - low reward if you ask me, but with a lot of moves in the game it seems like they're going with a higher risk - lower reward design which doesn't sit right with me.

I don't agree with this assessment at all.
 
If you guys had to decide between Roy or Lucina for Marth's clone in the game, who would you choose?

It would be tough decision but I would go with Lucina.

I hope this game delivers on the hype.

I remember being excited for Brawl, and when I finally got my hands on it, I was really disappointed. It had a ton of content, and I mean A TON, it should have been any nintendo faithful's dream, but something about it left a sour taste in my mouth.

I did play Melee competitively, so I suppose my wanting it to replicate what I enjoyed in Melee clouded my judgements. It was just too slow, I suppose.

This game seems to rectify what was wrong with Brawl, at a gameplay standpoint. It may not be Melee, but I can deal with it as long as it's fast paced action and doesn't slow to a crawl like Brawl.

I have a good feeling that they might deliver the hype.

Zelda and Sheik still share Light Arrows.

Yeah, I can't really think of any final smash for Sheik other than Light Arrows.

To clarify, Sakurai only said that she puts on and takes off her mask when she appears for battle and during one of her taunts. His wording did not specifically imply that you could swap modes, although I would guess that such a feature will be included.

Oh damn, the translation I read must have misinterpreted it.

Well, Sakurai never mentioned any "certain character". Rather, his language regarding deciding not to include Chrom was very explicit throughout the article, even saying at one point that Chrom is really popular and well-known as the protagonist of FE:A, "but I chose Robin and Lucina" (with a sort-of "so that's that" kind of finality).
The difference in Lucina's swordplay is what ultimately earned her a "true" spot on the roster. Sakurai had initially planned to include a Lucina "skin" (alt. costume with her voice) for Marth, but the fact that she functions differently from Marth because of the way her sword deals damage evenly across the blade--a subtle difference, perhaps--is the little bit of "luck" that secured her a roster slot.

I think this also means that Sakurai will likely refrain from cutting characters like Falco, Wolf, Lucas, and Ganondorf because they function very differently from their "model" counterparts (Fox, Ness, and Ganondorf respectively).
 
I still hope that Takamaru would manage to get in. It would be cool to have Samurai with several projectiles.

I don't think he'd quite be considered a blue haired swords man since he'd use a katana rather than broadsword which is what Sakurai was worried about.

If we're getting character costumes, aside from Dark Pit, I hope the Daisy and Blood Falcon skins also are promoted to that kind of thing. It'd be neat to see Blood Hawk replacing the Blue Falcon in his intro and Final Smash, and actually get the proper voice and haircut for Daisy's design. It's also the only way we're seeing another F-Zero character in Smash, considering the series' current situation.

Actually, I never considered the possibility that Groose could make an assist trophy. He could show up with the Groosinator and launch some bombs around the battlefield.

However, now that I've thought of it, it won't happen.
 
Obviously, we're going to get Demise as a Ganondorf clone, with Ganondorf still keeping the Falcon inspired moveset.
 
Hmm. So Chrom might not have been in the initial plans for the roster? I guess that could rule out the Gematsu leak being based off of really early design documents, which would've explained "Pokemon from X/Y" (early name for Greninja) and "Chrom" (planned for, but cut/replaced with Robin)

I thought the purpose of that image was it teased potential newcomers or than assist trophies so we'd have to be looking at a Skyward Sword rep with the Fi tease.

Oh, I wasn't really referring to that image. I was just going off on a tangent because you brought up Groose.

This is why I think my idea of being able to change the colours of certain hot spots on the outfit (i.e Mario's hat, shirt, dungarees, gloves and shoes) to make your own custom alt colour is needed because another red dungaree blue shirt Mario is unlikely so some people's wishes will never be granted.

Also then I can get Wario's Woods NES Wario.

Do you think that the 3DS and Wii U will recieve different intros? I hope they do. It's small and probably petty, but I'd prefer if the Wii U opening isn't just an HD version of the 3DS opening. Any chance to get more awesome videos!
 
So yeah, I believe the 21st rumor... MINUS one HUGE issue. That's the same release day as Pokemon ORAS and I just don't see Nintendo double dipping on two of their huge games this holiday. If SSBU can be out before black friday then sure.. maybe. Otherwise I Highly doubt we will see it on the 21st. I will be surprised to see it before Dec to be honest.

ALBW came out on the same day as SM3DW in NA :)

I think each version will get its own intro.

Probably with different art styles (like the first trailer)

I do not agree with this based on what we've seen, certain characters like Lucina, ZSS and Sheik have little landing lag, whereas the rest of the cast don't seem to have many good aerial moves

Also why do you always assume every time this topic comes up that when I talk about adding lag-cancelling to the game, I mean adding z/l cancelling, when I've stated multiple times that I don't like input barriers and don't want that form of lag cancelling back in the game?

The free flow combo system present in melee, smash 64 and project m is what makes smash bros. such a fun competitive game to me, and the main thing that contributes to that, other than hitstun, is the fact that you can significantly reduce the lag on your aerials so you can perform a followup attack before the other person is able to act.

Also aren't you the same guy that said dash-dancing was useless? I don't exactly trust your opinion on this sort of thing after that debacle, because you sound more and more like you just don't like people complaining about things raher than actually having knowledge about the subject.

Why exactly do you find it a welcome change, especially after playing PM?

Why should you ever use fox's blaster when it has massive endlag, why should you ever use toon links bow when it has pointless endlag, why should you ever use samus' missiles?

All of these things have been given more risk but no extra reward to compensate for it, and when you consider the fact that being able to cancel them was the thing that actually made their projectiles viable as a zoning tool, it just seems stupid.

I definitely do, it's always been a bit of a persistent thing in smash games, it's why a lot of moves in the games aren't used at all in competitive play, they've just never had a good enough reward to outweigh the risk compared to other moves/characters.

It's just that some characters seem to be getting more risk without increased reward whilst others are getting less risk but the same level of reward as before.

What I find noteworthy is that King Kihunter only appears in Metroid Other M, but the trophy says "Metroid series". Each of the other 3 trophies is specific with the games the characters appear in, including Tiki (since she appears in more than one game).

Did you read the explanation about Mii Fighter being not on select screen? I know it's more likely to be fake.
