Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

So far Hyrule warriors has only had characters from the 3D, non-toon, Console Zeldas.

It has the wind waker as a weapon, but no character rep from that game. Chances aren't looking good for Vaati.

That would kinda suck, I think his design would probably translate the best out of the "Toon" designs.

I will be so disappointed if Groose isn't playable in Hyrule Warriors. I obviously don't expect him in Smash Bros. but that would be amazing,

Again there's a few things to say here with the trophies that I find noteworthy.

First, King Kihunter is indeed from Metroid Other M, but below him, it just says "Metroid series" - on the other 3 trophies, the caption was quite specific about which games the trophies came from, except for Tiki who indeed appears in more games than FE: Awakening, thus "Fire Emblem series" is correct. Why would King Kihunter, a boss who only appeared in Other M, be captioned with "Metroid series" instead of Other M?

Does it say metroid series in the japanese direct? Can anyone translate to make sure it wasn't a translation error?

There are some people that "strongly believe" that we are getting full roster from Coro Coro, but I would take a chance to issue the challenge out here to anyone.

I'm saying that we aren't getting FULL roster reveal from Coro Coro. If I'm right then you have to wear avatars for two weeks. If we actually GOT full roster reveal then I'm wrong and I will wear two weeks. I will accept more than 1 avatar bet..

If the trophies in the direct do point to new characters I think the Legend of Zelda newcomer is Ganondorf with a new moveset and he'll get his own newcomer video.

Always the gambler...Don't push your already great luck lol.

Personally, for a Zelda character I would've preferred Skull Kid, Midna, (at least they got in as Assist Trophies) or beast Ganon. We might get Ghirahim, Impa, or Toon Zelda, but I think a heavy spell user with the trident ala LTTP Ganon would be more interesting than any of them.

Totally in agreement with you there. Coro Coro pulled this stunt with Brawl and was wrong, and additionally unless there is only one or two new newcomer trailers and they are revealed in the next couple of weeks, I don't see Nintendo letting Coro Coro get the exclusive on Smash's final roster.

I'm not betting but I fully agree with you. It'll either be starting roster only (still news!) *OR* it'll be a recap of what's already on the website.

If the trophies in the direct do point to new characters I think the Legend of Zelda newcomer is Ganondorf with a new moveset and he'll get his own newcomer video.

Even if he is an entirely new character, movewise, he'll still be a veteran.

You and me, both. Even better if the Trident itself would open up the possibility of some interesting close-range moves, such as being able to use it to pick and slam other fighters into the arena, or each other.

I think if Ganondorf has a new moveset he will be treated like a new character.

Ridley's Theme in Other M is the only recognizable and memorable song from the entire game and is likely the only track from Other M in SSB4 (or if there are more I doubt it numbers more than two). I wouldn't put any stock into the song choice at all.

We've had stage music before that wasn't catchy.
Remember Environmental Noises from Pikmin?
Plus, we don't know for sure what they played there is going to be stage music. Most of the music used in the Smash Direct was from Brawl or Melee, only very few things that weren't from either, including the trophy bits.

Recognizability (is that even a word?)/memorability is also fairly subjective. It's true that most of Other M's music is more about being atmospheric rather than catchy, but I find some of the music fairly memorable, even though not catchy.
The Biosphere Jungle, for instance. Could recognize that easily out of the soundtrack. King Kihunter's theme probably too. Most of the boss themes are fairly unique.

Yeah, that was my biggest takeaway from the interview, too.

*crosses fingers for impa sheik alt*

Omg that model looks beautiful. Impa needs to happen. Sakurai pls.

This is what seemed fishy to me. He makes it sound like he's okay with alts that are totally different characters here, but then he lists all of the existing examples, which AREN'T different characters. They're just sex changes on the same character. The names aren't different.

Despite his examples not actually being proper examples of the point he's trying to make, though, it does sound like he's okay with different-character alts. I don't really... believe him, though. Let's say, for the sake of argument even though it won't happen with these characters, he made a Falco alt for Fox. If he did that, when you finish the battle it'd say WINNER: FOX!!! with Falco standing there. I just don't see him ever letting something like that happen.

I kinda think that he considered making Lucina a Marth alt, but ran up against that exact issue. And so the game never has to deal with handling different names for alts, he made the tiniest of edits to Lucina to "justify" her being her own character, and getting her own slot.

I don't remember exactly what the article said, but I think it was essentially "names and/or voices". For example, consider Dr. Mario. If he's included as an alternate costume for Mario, of course the results screen would announce, "This game's winner is...Dr. Mario!" All that requires is just inserting a line of code that calls up a separate audio file depending on the costume the player selected--easy stuff. I don't think that was the reason Sakurai made Lucina a separate character. In fact, he explains pretty clearly why he made the decision.

I know I'm super late, but I wanted to do something to thank you for the translation. How's this?

You are so sweet! :3 I PM'd you. Thank you!

With the Gematsu leak now in question, I'm remaining optimistic. :D

Likewise. Our boys still have a chance! :D

Yes, it says "Metroid Series". ;)

Also, specifically noteworthy as well, is that indeed, all the music you mention is from those games, but the music played during King Kihunter's theme is Other M's arrangement of Ridley's Theme, whereas the other 3 are unique to their respective games
even though Kid Icarus Uprising's "Return of Palutena" also takes bits of Kid Icarus' NES soundtrack, but that's just a bit mixed into the theme, not just an outright arrangement. Also, for those interested, the other 2 tracks are "I~Because" from FE Awakening and Skyward Sword's "Ballad of the Goddess"
.

This seems especially odd considering King Kihunter does have his own boss theme, and Other M has plenty of other music that could've possibly been used that isn't a remix.

I know a lot of people are dismissing the trophy theory, but I am 100% convinced that Sakurai put these bits there for a reason, and not just to be facetious.

Really good post mate, now i can see there is some elements that are noteworthy with this trophy theory.

Some people here talk about the possibility of impa from skyward sword, and with the music chose for FI "Ballad of the Goddess", I can see why it can become a real thing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL5I8cqRR0k (be careful spoiler of skyward sword)

Since you guys are sorta talking about music...

What's the name of the track that plays when Robin appears in the newest trailer? I keep forgetting.

Would find it pretty funny if tomorrow the pic of the day mentioned another video on Monday.

"There's only a few left, but there's not going to be any directs soon so we're just gonna show them off now."

I would at the very least expect veterans to show up more in the coming weeks.
