Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Mewtwo or some really doubtful third party.

Is it wrong to root for someone from Persona now that they've been on a Nintendo system?

I can't even think of a 3rd party character that would foster as much positive worldwide hype as Mewtwo's return. Maybe Banjo-Kazooie? Were they big in JP? Even then I'm doubtful. Crash Bandicoot maybe?

Eh...

I would argue he is a little gambit-ey...

If he means left , sure. I think megaman really got people hype though..

My answer is the return of Snake. Along with Some FF rep.

Meh Snake had his time, and its time to move on. My money for Dixie Kong or Toon Zelda

I know it's impossible, but I would go crazy if Banjo and Kazooie ever popped up in a smash game.

Which character, on a global scale (meaning Ridley isn't the answer), would generate the most hype just before launch? I think Mewtwo might actually be the best choice, even if we consider some really outlandish options.

Realistically Mewtwo is probably the only major Nintendo character left that I can think of with mass market appeal and global appeal that could generate that kind of buzz for the game before launch. Or Snake if he is coming back and Sakurai/Kojima decided to troll and reveal him last minute for "kept you waiting huh" lulz

Unrealistically, Cloud from FF7 (thanks to KH:CoM he's eligible), Zero from MMX, Goku from DBZ, honestly you could put almost any extremely popular character here and it's generate a crazy amount of hype

Irrelevant, no.

Used to introduce a mechanic, and then they chose to push other newer pokemon. Because Like the WWE you can't rely on Over dudes forever, sure.

I could maybe buy into the idea that Sakurai doesn't consider Mewtwo super important when it comes to Smash after the Brawl cut, and especially if he decides to skip on Mewtwo for these two games as well.

GameFreak / The Pokemon Company though? Hell no. That big X + Y push as the first Pokemon Mega Evolution, along with being the only Pokemon to receive two mega evolutions aside from Charizard, in addition to Mega Mewtwo Y being in his own Pokemon movie last year, and his appearance in the Pokemon Red and Blue anime feature, etc.

X and Y banked heavily on nostalgia from the earlier generations of Pokemon, especially the first one and Mewtwo as the legendary Pokemon happened to be a big part of that. Trying to downplay that character's popularity is like trying to downplay Charizard and say that new fire starters like Blaziken have overtaken him in popularity / made him irrelevant when that is far from the case. Same goes for Mewtwo in regards to legendaries.

Noooope. If we're going to make X-Men comparisons then Mewtwo would probably be more like the equivalent of Magneto.

Just imagine, a montage of the Pokémon Trainer training himself, then he appears to a lot of JRPG characters and the camera shows his face, and then he begins to say "Po....ké....." and then out of nowhere P3MC appears and pushes him and yells "PERSONA!" as he shoots his head with his Evoker with Orpheus/Thanatos appearing.

It will never happen. ;_;
No, but it still isn't happening.

I seriously wish Jack Frost or the Devil Summoner:Soul Hackers protag were up for grabs though.
Yeah, if any ATLUS character appears in Smash, it would most likely be Jack Frost.

Um, Snake returning our any Square-Enix character would produce megaton levels of hype right before release.

I think Banjo Kazooie would generate more hype than any other character.
He's also one of the least likely characters, however :/.

While I absolutely LOOOOVED banjo kazooie when they came out and would have definitely loved them in smash 64/melee, they definitely don't generate the excitement that they did 15+ years ago. The only reason they'd be an amazing inclusion is because of all the hoops nintendo would have had to jump through to get them in, not because they're particularly relevant anymore.

Batman, duh.

oh lawd

that's where my own personal "Yeah, I'm out." line rests

I can't even think of a single Square Enix character I'd want in Super Smash Bros. over the years. Except Crono.

The fact that only Charizard and Mewtwo got 2 mega evolutions (and are the only two to currently have more then 1) should show how popular they are or how popular Gamefreak believes they are.

Lucina is the only character that matters. She can be the worst in the game but she is gonna be my main <3

Unless she is REALLY bad then she can be my secondary

We've had this conversation a lot but Geno's got a lot of vocal support (even though he's basically a nobody), but there's a couple of recurring Final Fantasy "characters" in the Mario Sports spinoffs developed by Square that have Mario-esque designs that might be cool.

And then there's Slime.

None of them are likely of course, but they'd still be cool to see.

I'd give anything for a Dragon Quest stage. If there is a series that deserves some sort of crossover content besides the guest series we have now, it is that one. Would probably push 10k copies in Japan alone.

How would that work? They look EXACTLY the same.

Ninten:

Ness:

That American art was changed from how he was in the Japanese art and how he's now depicted. He's got less pointy tufts of hair and his hat's bill is pointed forward and to his right. I often see him drawn with a scarf but I don't know if that's official. And I guess they could get rid of the backpack.

But that's kinda the point, it'd take approximately 5 seconds to change it and have an alt for him. I'd be kinda nice. I'm not really expecting anyone to acknowledge him though.

If they reached out to Ubisoft of all people to get a Rayman trophy, I could see them doing the same for Square for something. DQ kinda deserves it.

Uncle Jesse

I think a Castlevania rep like Simon Belmont (or any whip Belmont) would have fairly universal recognition with older gamers (the ones who would know Mega Man and Pac Man).

They might not remember Simon by name, but they would remember Castlevania and the whip.

What changes could they possibly make so that you go 'oh that's a ninten skin' that would take 5 seconds?

I wish there was a Square-Enix rep in Smash Bros. Not even because I care about the possible reps so much as that would mean Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest music. Maybe even Chrono Trigger music. If we got Kefka's Tower with a remix of Dancing Mad and Ocean Palace with Battle with Magus this would be the best game anyone could ever create.

Edit: And now I'm thinking of all the music they could add from DQ4 and DQ6 and trying not to be hugely disappointed it will never, ever happen.
