I personally think it's amazing that nobody would even consider Lucas getting cut were it not for Gematsu. I guarantee it. We kept every other veteran that cut happy people thought would go (Toon Link, Ike, Lucario).
Lucas is as good as in if you ask me. I seriously can't see any reason he'd be cut.

I think everyone might come back, to be honest. That being said, even before the Gematsu leak, the cynical side of myself thought Lucas wasn't 100% safe.
Ah, OK. I thought it looked too much like Kozaki's art to not be the real deal.

I tend to think he'll be absorbed into Ness' custom moves, and seen as parts of other newcomers movesets. Robin's side b looks a little too familiar
Still hoping for that stealth Captain Rainbow reveal.

I don't see why Sakurai would cut a semi-clone that, by the way, is a character he likes. I don't have the source on hand but I'm pretty sure he wanted to put Lucas in Melee.
All I'm saying is, the whole "Lucas could be cut because he's too similar to Ness" thing is out. We have Lucina, who's a newcomer clone, Toon Link, a very cloney clone, and no indication that characters are being cut willy nilly. And I don't think Lucas being absorbed I to Ness via customizable specials would be good. I mean, Lucas's normals are what differentiates him.

Multiplayer WarioWare is too good. Twisted has the best content and microgames but multiplayer is just too amazing.
Seriously, 4 player Paper Plane is so good.
This is about the only way Snake will be in Smash this time.
Amazing.
People are using the Wii U character select screen as a guide and as a result do four rows or 12.
However if one were to shrink them so you could fit 5 rows you could easily have 15 icons per row thus 75 characters + random.

This is all true. Here's hoping Lucas comes back, and everyone else, for that matter.
The only reason people are assuming Lucas might be cut is the Gematsu leak. And in that it seemed less like they wanted to cut him, and more like they didn't have enough time to finish both and were leaning towards finishing Ness instead of Lucas.

I hope they go for something prettier (at least for the WiiU version) than a simple rectangle.

I'd kind of like to be able to select a character specifically. That could be for it's own mode though?
Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it, a "Quick Battle" mode could be pretty cool. You select it, pick stock/time and number of players, and are thrown straight into a fight with random characters on a random stage.

There should be a way to randomize custom moves too. To make it really weird.
A low chance of incorporating random Special Brawl / Smash / Versus rules would also help.

Depends.
If Sakurai does anything at all to hype up SDCC, there's not a chance in hell.

what do you guys think is the least likely character to come back in any playable form (e.g. Dr Mario as a Mario costume)
i would have to say Young Link since he doesn't really work as a costume of Toon Link and i would put Snake's chance to come back higher. Pichu seems really unlikely too.

Probably Pichu or Young Link, yes. Snake is on that "He's totally in" "He's totally out" ground. Impossible to predict.
Of the cut Melee vets, in terms of possibility of returning, I'd put the likelihood at Mewtwo>Dr. Mario>Roy>Pichu>Young Link. I had Roy above Dr. Mario before Lucina, though.

Doc is probably the single best candidate for an alternate costume, and I'd be incredibly surprised if he isn't one. Project M proves pills can be replaced for fire balls seemlessly without gameplay effects and I imagine Sakurai will come to the same conclusion.

i would put Dr. Mario before Mewtwo, i think he's a lock. What's your reason for putting Pichu before YL?
Toon Link is basically Young Link in a different art style.

If Mario can also get Doc's unique properties with the alt, then I'm all for it.

If it's an alt, the only unique properties would have to be aesthetic. Any changes to gameplay would, imo, have to be their own character, like Lucina.
The only visual problem would be replacing the Fire Orb with a pill..

We still need Mask Link with Deku, Goron, and Zora transformations.
Pichu got cut, Young Link got flat out replaced. Though to be fair, Plusle & Minun seemed like they were meant to replace Pichu as well.
Mewtwo seems more likely than Dr. Mario to me though. I should note that I don't count alternate costumes for this. Though I think, going off the rules used with Lucina, Dr. Mario would get his own slot.
If Project M could do it in one costume slot, it'd hopefully be well within the SSB4 dev team's capabilities.
