Predict the biggest B.O. bomb of summer 2014: Jupiter Ascending Delayed

Yes, because at least the other characters are human enough to be relatable. I would rather it be a small alien than a racoon, because now it seems it's steering into The Zookeeper and Doctor Doolittle territory of funny talking animals.

Rocket Raccoon is an alien. Also, please remember that all Marvel movies take place in the 1999 universe not the 616 universe.

Godzilla might be the first movie with a $90M+ opening to fail to reach $200M domestic. It will be close.

That movie kind of suffered from lack of Godzilla, in a movie that was suppose to be about Godzilla. However, it will sell like gangbusters when it's released on blu ray/dvd.

Apes opens to $75m domestically. Maleficent and EoT reach $669m and $351m globally respectively. Looks like there's a possibility that we get through the summer without a genuine bomb. Upcoming big budget films in July/August include Hercules, GoTG, and TMNT.

I could see Hercules bombing

GoTC is typical Marvel crap, so will do well. Just like TMNT will be typical Bay crap, will also do well.

Hercules, well now that could be a good candidate.

Edge of Tomorrow is the closest to bomb status this summer, but we don't really have any Lone Rangers or Battleships yet. If Guardians is successful, we might get through the entire summer without a true big budget bomb. I can't see Hercules doing poor enough overseas to really bomb, regardless of the domestic tally.

Hey OP, dinner is ready

but which ones the best?
Edge of Tomorrow is a great SciFi movie that'll touch the heart of many gamers because the concept is quite similar to a videogame.
Planet of the Apes is good, but it's going to be on teathers at least a month so you still have plenty of time to see that one.
The Purge is a horror-thriller about a group of people running of chaos and anarchy, great concept, some scenes are cringe worthy and the action sequences are well done, but is just released so you still have plenty of time to see it.

I keep forgetting that TMNT exists.

I doubt it bombs. Most of those appeals to 80s/90s childhood nostalgia have done decently even when the movies are poor.

I ate the the crow a long time ago, but yeah, looks like there won't be a bomb this summer at all, I'm a little disappointed.

I'm still betting on Hercules bombing. I won't give up hope! :-P

Hrmmm based on what's left from the list, I wouldn't be surprised if Let's be Cops bombed. I could see a ton of people being turned off from it's premise. The movies bad marketing could make some people view it as "tacky" or "distasteful". This could be another "30 Minutes or Less" but worse.

I think Guardians of the Galaxy will maybe bomb domestically as well, all the comic movie die hard fans will see it but I don't know if it appeals to the masses outside that demographic. It might be successful as a film parents will take their kids to go see during the summer, I could see it being a huge success with the 8-14 demographic. It's hard to say since GotG doesn't have anywhere near the mass recognition as Marvel's other characters. This could be a film where we start to see diminishing returns on comic book movies.

Dunno about TMNT, we live in a world where 4 Bayformers movies have been released.

What do you guys think Hercules? The movie is coming out in this week and there seems to be no hype for it.
I think it's going to bomb, the commercials/trailers don't look interesting in the least and I'm not noticing very much buzz at all; for a summer release it looks cheap IMO and they've done nothing to explain why anyone should see it other than "Hey it's the Rock and he's Hercules" which isn't enough nowadays.

EDIT: Yikes, I didn't even realize it was a Ratner film (they seem to be keeping that quiet): Interest -> 0.

You could say that about all Marvel films and look how that turned out. Iron man was B-tier at best when his movie came out, same with Thor. There's almost zero chance of this movie bombing with Marvel and Disney pushing the hell out of it.

I wouldn't say that about all Marvel films. Marvel has established brands that have been around for decades. Even Thor and Iron-Man have existed in some form or fashion outside of the comic books for a long time. Rather it be cartoons, action figures, kids clothing, or videogames. Many people still knew who Thor and Iron Man were before the movies were around without ever reading their comics. While might be considered "B Tier", they've still had a shit ton of exposure for decades.

You could argue that point by mentioning Fantastic Four. Well the FF movies looked like ass even in trailers. I read comics as a kid and I didn't know of anyone that was a comic reader that actually liked Fantastic Four either.

I think GotG might bomb domestically because I don't think it's going to catch that nostalgia that even Iron Man or Thor bring to attract older audiences. I still think it could be very successful though with the younger demographic with children.

edit: I would also say that Iron Man has RDJ, and Thor has Chris Hemsworth whom women love. I would argue that GotG doesn't have near the same star power.

Hercules is the prime candidate now. Guardians can float past August if TMNT doesn't take off right away.

Hercules might be the best test yet of The Rock's star power. I like the guy but I don't think it's gonna do so well.

RDJ was still struggling with his drug image when Iron Man came out, and who had heard of Hemsworth before Thor? I just think people are really under estimating Marvels pull right now. Cap 2 gave them a huge bump, and I think it's going to carry over to GotG. Plus it's Aug, other then TMNT, it really doesn't have anything to fight with.

Who the hell even asked for a HERCULES movie. And directed by Brett Ratner? Fuck off.

The Rock should have bailed on this and done Transformers 4 instead. The Rock is so much better than these movies.
