Giant Bomb #8 | It's a Hit!

i'm nervous for brad. The podcast used to be where brad would make up for his late night dota play by sleeping and yawning for 2-3 hours. If he's hosting now he'll never sleep and be a danger to himself and his loved ones : /

Eh, TheLegendOfMart has been hating on brad for a long time now. If he doesn't want to listen because of him hosting than it's fair enough.

I have to agree that it feels clear that for whatever reasons (and let me emphasize that we don't need to know the reasons and frankly they don't matter) Jeff has clearly decided to cut back on how much time he devoted to Giant Bomb.

Jeff relaxing is happy Jeff. Happy Jeff is good for everyone including Jeff. But not Geoff, and definitely not Greg.

If I knew the answer already I wouldn't be asking, take the stick from out of your ass.

It'd be one thing if you ever offered any observation that wasn't negative or cynical, but you don't.

The answer is also all over this page. Take your own advice and maybe try not to be so miserable.

I don't care what he feels really but he shouldn't be surprised in responses when he always acts like an irredeemable dick in this thread.

Makes sense Brad hosts it. Spread the hosting responsibility around a bit. Jeff hosts most of the livestreams, so it's smart that Brad hosts the podcast. He's shown he does a good job with it.

Yeah, I feel the energy or direction of the podcast would falter some weeks when you could tell Jeff wasn't as into it. This really is the best outcome for everyone think.

Yeah cause everything posted here is gospel truth, like the moronic Brad is leaving "jokes".

Pretty much every recent change of their own choosing turned out to be a great decision, imo. So glad they are knocking it out of the park again with the Bombcast after turning up their video output back to eleven. And so many of their ideas are still waiting to be realised!

happy GB = happy me

Oh, the glory of always-on internet connection requirements.

Nice to see Ubisoft is bringing that lovely feature to consoles. Now I can avoid their bullshit on all platforms.

Is the entire map open in The Crew beta? If I could ignore the entire story and just initiate cross country police chases with extremely dogged AI whenever I want I might actually get it.

Yeah, you can access the entire map so you can go and do the Cannonball Run.

If there was a car racing MMO Jeff would probably join a Fast and the Furious RP server.

I think Auto Assault pretty much ruined the chances of seeing another one of those.

Need For Speed World is still a thing, not really as much of an MMO like auto assault though.

Did they say the final game would require you to be online at all times? This might just be a beta thing. I don't see why this game wouldn't have an offline mode.

I think GB has already changed so much it's not as appealing. Nothing negative about the new guys but I miss Vinny, Patrick and Ryan.

I just have to accept that I'll never be so entertained by them again in the same way. Very sad.

also everyone you ever love will eventually leave you or die.

The Crew, everything together that I hate

Open world racing games
Always Online DRM masquerading as an MMO
Useless upgrade points and leveling up
Microtransactions

Hopefully it fails hard.

He did that a year ago when he stopped streaming randomly at weekends and basically gave up twitter.

All not hosting the podcast does is free him up to do other things
endurance run with Dan
- since he is still recording it and used to edit it at work.

He only stared hosting it out of necessity and I think he realised having Brad host it gets the best out of him.

All I asked was if Brad had taken over the reigns so I didn't have to bother listening to the Bombcast today or in the future, then I got some smartarse remark from you calling me obnoxious for asking a simple question.

Ok I made this list, let me know if it's accurate.

You can not like something but still wish it success for others that do like it.

I love open world racing games and the upgrading and leveling up and crazy amount of customization was one of my favorite parts of the old Need for Speed games. I bet there's a lot of others that love that gameplay style too.

Don't wish it ill simply because it's not your cup of tea.

Nope, sorry. I'm going to wish failure on any game that implements always-on DRM for a game that doesn't absolutely need it.

Yep, and microtransactions.

I think it's silly to condemn micro transactions without knowing how they actually affect your gameplay. If the curve of acquiring stuff is fine without microtransactions, and the game is fun to play to get the things you would normally use microtransactions to purchase, I don't see why it is worth condeming. It offers another option to those who would like to use it and don't have the time otherwise, or those who just don't like playing games that long.

As for always online, I can feel you on that. I don't think this is the same as always online DRM, because the world in this game does seem designed to be populated by tons of people at once and the online hooks are meant to provide a lot to the experience, but I do think options are always better.

Sorry, no company gets the benefit of the doubt with microtransactions. They perverted DLC into what it is today, and they'll do the same with microtransactions. It's going to affect how the game is designed no matter what they say.

That option has always existed, except it used to be called cheat codes.

I would say that's a bit extreme, but my experience with Ubisoft always-on DRM so far:

Splinter Cell Conviction PC: Couldn't play co-op with a friend during the first two days of launch for longer than 15 minutes because the server handling the online checks failed. Meanwhile, pirates were playing fine because the multiplayer didn't even do a basic CD-key check and they just patched out the online checks. This was after a 3 month PC delay.

Anno 2070 PC: Going offline meant losing access to the 'Ark' upgrades (your base) which is what stored all cross-mission persistent benefits for your settlement which you earned. For a city-building RTS, I don't really need to describe how much that impacts gameplay.

Ubisoft scepticism is well earned.

I really like the presentation of The Crew, but i'm not too sure of the gameplay. The only racing game i enjoy are Burnout and this doesn't look nearly as arcadey as that. I think the insane modification you can do the cars is really interesting though.

If they talk about poop on the bombcast next week it will be my last bombcast for a month or two. This is disgusting. It's been recurring for weeks and weeks now. They're obviously deliberately making the editorial decision to subject us to this. I'm so fucking sick of it. Jesus Christ. Cut it the fuck out.
