Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

I saw Other M for $5 on Black Friday once and didn't even buy it.

Also I have only played 40 minutes of Kid Icarus Uprising because it made me nauseous. I want to try again but I forgot how to play.

The only thing I hated about Other M was having to switch into FPS mode. So pointless and annoying sometimes.

Other M absolutely cratered in price at a rate completely unheard of for Nintendo games, so I don't know if using its sales as a metric for anything is a good idea. The game was an abject sales failure.
Not quite.

Excitebots. Sin & Punishment 2. Perfect Dark. EarthBound. etc.

I believe Excitebots was a Club Nintendo reward in Japan.

Are there any Mario RPG reps besides Paper Mario that would make sense?

Maybe Fawful? He's been an important antagonist in two games so far, and he's used enough gizmos that he could get a decent moveset. I don't know, though - he seems more like AT material to me (if he's going to be in Smash at all, that is.)

If the Mario RPGs get any representation, though, it should be from Paper Mario, as that's the only series which has been consistently good. The Mario & Luigi series has been steadily dropping in quality since Superstar Saga.

Mother Brain actually appeared in good games.

Okay, so only characters from good games should be in Smash? Better start cutting ROB, then, cause his games were objectively awful. Might as well add Sonic to that list. Pac-Man too, at this point - the modern games have been pretty lackluster. And might as well drop the Star Fox crew, their games have been bad as well.
Oh, also, I guess that's also a super subjective criteria, because for all I care, Zelda games are pretty lame since OoT, so if it was up to me, I'd cut Sheik and Ganondorf and Toon Link. I'd also probably cut all the Pokemon cause I don't find Pokemon games fun.

Even if you think Other M is shit, it doesn't matter.

F-Zero was popular enough. The failure of GX doesn't reflect the sales of the previous games.

Except that it does, because none of the F-Zero games sold beyond a million copies, except for the SNES game. X didn't, GX didn't, none of the GBA games did.

Star Fox 64 massively outsold any Metroid game.

"Every Star Fox after Star Fox 64" - "But Star Fox 64!!!"

And as Green Mamba says, Other M fucking tanked in price. Most of its sales were at 10 bucks.

Well, considering you seem to think F-Zero is a massively popular series, I think my argument is as valid as yours.

Eh, Bowser's Inside Story was still better than Partners in Time.

And Sticker Star sucked.

but yeah, Fawful's probably the next best choice. Guy was main villain in one game and supporting villain in another.

Okay, you keep supporting the minor character from that one game that put the Metroid series on hiatus.

Paper Mario had 2 good, 1 okay-ish and 1 fucking awful game tho. M&L is more consistently good.

lol.
I love how you say I'm supporting the character, even though I'm not actually supporting him, and declared that in a prior post. I don't give a flying shit about Anthony. I am opposing you shitting on people who like, or even entertain, the possibility of him getting in.

Just because Sticker Star is the weakest of the series doesn't mean it's not a good game overall.

Eh, I disagree. Sticker Star is far from "fucking awful," it's just not as good as the rest. On the other hand, I think each M&L game has been weaker than the last. I haven't gotten even halfway through Dream Team because the constant tutorials and hand-holding just got to be too much.

Sticker Star is not only the weakest, but not a good Mario RPG at all. It was legitimately one of the few Nintendo games of late that's disappointed me, I'm even in the camp that thinks SPM is a great game

Really, in the end it comes down to opinions, but imo Sticker Star was bad and left a bad taste in my mouth

Now we're the Mario RPG OT.

What was your tourny number? I was 6th in line that morning. I felt like we might have played each other at least once. Reveal yourself on the internet! I was actually calling out for you random from time time. I'd just yell out Anthony from Neogaf where are you?!

Sticker Star is much worse than any Mario and Luigi game though.

I think it's worse than Superstar Saga and maybe Partners in Time, but it's better than the other two. Sticker Star's biggest flaw, for me, was its lack of a good story and interesting characters (some of those puzzles were pretty obtuse, too.) Gameplay-wise, I think it was pretty solid. Battling with stickers was a fun little innovation that, while I don't want to see in any more PM games, I'm glad they did it this one time.

Now, I admit that I'm a PM fan through and through, and I'll probably love anything with the name Paper Mario attached to it, but I still really enjoyed Sticker Star - more than I did Bowser's Inside Story, and certainly more than Dream Team.
