Jonathan Kent being a jerk ruined it for me. OP, did this not bother you?

There were other glaring issues, but I'll leave it at that for now.

Liked this movie except for the
Superman kills Zod scene. It goes against the core of the character imo, and he didn't have to do it. If he can twist his neck, he can lift the guy's head up and away.

So weird to see this be the one thing someone doesn't like about this movie. It was obviously meant to be a last resort move and actually gives a decent motivation to not want to kill again, sort of like in Arrow from season 1 to season 2.

They have way too much fun that end up with cringeworthy comedic shit like in IR3 and Avengers.

No thanks.

Yeah, fun sucks, and I don't want to have any either.

:D

You might think they were cringeworthy, but I loved both Avengers and IM3 (actually all of the Marvel movies, Hulk's not included) a lot more than MoS. Different strokes for different folks I suppose, but I like to enjoy myself and smile now and then while watching a film. It's why I'm drooling over seeing Guardian's of the Galaxy in two days.

I found it to be such a drab overblown mess of a movie. A macguffin that didn't need to be there, the tornado scene and Jon Kent in general, terrible to non existent characterization, mostly sub-par acting highlighted by atrocious dialogue. Dour and meandering instead of meaningful, every single day shot like it was about to rain, just unpleasant to look at.

Is this a parody post? Hell, they're based on comics. It's in the damn word. Even Nolan's TDK movies have a bigger sense of fun than the laughably self-serious MOS.

it was a fucking awesome movie.

also, he's not imitating anyone when he's a kid. he's pretending to be hero, like we all did as kids.

Action was done incredibly well. I liked Lane's character. Superman was cast well.

Some of the writing and flashback sequences were absolute garbage.

Im not saying there is no room for lightheart comments or jokes but not in the fucking climax where everything is at stakes, when that Suit crashed in front of Tony at the last battle ruined the entire movie for me.

I like funny stuff, but not at the expense of tension or serious battle moments.

Yes they are from comics but they are movies not cartoons.

If that one little running gag ruined the entire movie for you, I can do nothing but laugh.

Yeah this movie had no cringeworthy comedy shit. If this was a Marvel movie someone would've called someone else a dicksplash, Lois would've told two army personnel to stop measuring dicks, Superman would've destroyed a guys truck because he was mean, and when someone calls him Superman, probably a general or something might have given him a stupid look because "lol comic books".

I mean, could you imagine how Marvel would have handled such a monumental scene like Superman killing someone? They probably would have ruined it by making Superman smile and banter in the next scene as a female character called him hot. Thank god we had Goyer and Snyder, stupid Marvel can't do anything right.

Pretty sure Marvel wouldn't have had Superman Kill period.

I enjoyed it... found it strange that the movie took itself so seriously.

Even The Dark Knight trilogy has it's moments of comedy/laughs.

If one of your cons is "Superman shouldn't kill", I would ask that you preface that with noting the extent of your knowledge of Superman from the comic books.

Do not go see Guardian's of the Galaxy this weekend. The movie is going to be a lot of fun, you wouldn't like it.

This... I'm pretty sure this is not true.

I'm very certain it is true. All of the Batman movies had little light hearted moments or jokes or one liners to break up the tension here and there. Alfred's jokes, Bruce Wayne's antics, even Gordon had a few quips. The first real joke in MoS is right at the end when the female soldier says "I think he's kind of hot". In the theater I was in it was the one and only time during the entire movie where the audience even let out a hint of a chuckle. At the very end of the movie.

comic books are for virgins remember

and a lot of people forget that "fun and jokes" in a movie can add a lot of CHARM. Alfred asking Bruce what the point of all those bloody push-ups were. Rhas telling Bruce that he took his suggestion of theatrics a bit literally. Bruce casually saying if he gets caught as Batman he will blame everything on Alfred. Gordon telling Harvey that "yeah, he kind of just does that."

No, it's pretty clear you don't get it so it's indeed better you stop caring :)

I get you like that moment, and I didn't, what is so hard to understand and why are you acting like this? what I have done to you? you post that you laugh at me because I don't like a moment in a movie, if that doesn't make you a mean person I don't know what could.

Jeez.

This is the starting point that David Goyer works off of before blessing us with one of his scripts

Yes, I am a mean person for considering something you said to be stupid and then laughing at it.

I don't know what to say to you, move on and try not to cry?

Exactly, this is tasteful humor, and should be included. I don't like Marvel humor though, except that it Captain America.

Also is very annoying that some of you are misunderstanding what I meant by what I posted, fun stuff is alright but not at all times.

Imagine if when Zod says "I will never stop" Superman would say a joke? Thats the whole issue I have, comedy just for the sake of comedy and at all times makes it bad IMO, don't need to get all defensive.

I have being laugh at,said that I have terrible taste, etc, lol.

Dude chill out, I killed your dog or what?

People this days, if you get so buthurt of what I said ignore me and move on, there is no need to be a internet bully and be all badass and shit.

lol.

You're a monster Zod

...

And I'm gonna stop you

Man, imagine if, after having been through a city-wrecking megafight and committing your first murder, Superman spouted a one-liner and kissed Lois? That would be so goofy!

It's like superhero movies can take two entirely different approaches to subject and both of them work just fine.Crazy I know! This whole fun vs. angst argument is beyond petty.

good movies can balance all sorts of tones perfectly, not just moody vs goofy...superhero movies struggle with the basics

This... I'm pretty sure this is not true.

There were definitely moments here and there. Alfred had some funny lines. One that kind of undercut the tension as people are giving Marvel shit for. Bruce is stuck under a beam in a burning house and Alfred used it as an opportunity to joke about his pushups.

Morgan Freeman had some lighthearted moments too.

I mean overall, those movies were pretty drab too but there were some light moments in there. It's the action scenes that had no sense of fun. Which might be what you're getting at.

It's already been done. Nolan's trilogy (while it had its own problems in the writing department) managed to get some human moments in there.
MoS was just bleak and devoid of emotion at all times.

I'm not saying there weren't comedic moments in the Dark Knight Trilogy.

I'm saying that Man of Steel was MORE serious-minded than any of the Dark Knight movies rings false to me. Very false.

We can argue over whether Man of Steel had a worse batting average with the jokes they WERE going for (dicksplash!) and that there were moments that were funny that shouldn't have been (dickships!) but as a whole, it's hard to look at movies like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight and say they're relatively sunnier in comparison. I don't see that at all.

"Building-destruction porn"? I literally spit out my drink.

I can no longer tell if some gaffers are real or are playing a caricature.

The last act lets it down but I still enjoyed it and have re-watched it several times. It's not the pinnacle of superhero films but it's by no means the worst.

No butthurt here, not sure why you resort to calling me a bully or a badass instead of, you know, trying to debate. But I guess I'm too big of a meanie so whatever?

lol.
