Anyone played the Anomaly Warzone Earth games? They're on sale for $0.99 according to Appshopper.

They looked like pretty good TD games, but I haven't heard many GAF impressions.

They're good. Not TD, but tower offense. You guide a fleet of vehicles through the streets, changing their formations, altering their routes, and upgrading them to best deal with enemy towers. Quite strategic, great visuals. I'd recommend them

Agreed-they are also very challenging as well.

Obscure.

Reminds me of House of Leaves. It's more of a visual novel but it's oddly told and has a handful of puzzles that test your ability to read between the lines.

I liked it. I can see how others might not.

It's also one of a kind. There is no other game like it.

I got super bored with Device 6 10 minutes into it.

I can understand this. I think the work Simogo does is incredible, but Device 6's puzzles bordered on the obtuse. It was very enjoyable but I can totally see where you're coming from.

Year Walk's puzzles were similarly frustrating to me but damn if both games weren't fantastic experiences when taken as a whole.

Simogo + Fireproof are the two developers where I'll actually put a release date on my calendar so I don't forget to download it.

Good to hear! And do you know if there's much difference between the main game and the Korea sequel/expansion? I noticed that Anomaly Korea is cheaper than the original.

I enjoyed Year Walk far more than Device 6, personally. It was a much more interesting setting IMO with lots of background info.

Also, it seems Sailor's Dream won't have any puzzles. The dev described it as "challenge-free"

Any good word game recommendations?

Was scared to download the Peggle update but I see it's now "Peggle Classic", so it's probably safe. That's fine and I'll try the new Peggle but I have a feeling it'll just bum me out. 😔

Let us know how it is. Update popped up for me this morning too.

Surely paid advertising..... :p :p :p

Pocket Tactics Galactic Keep preview

I agree with everything they said, and then some.
I have SLIGHTLY more hopes to see the game out this year...but yeah...considering the amount of builds they cranck out every week, they are really perfectionists so I dunno...

I'd put Disney's Words of Wonder, Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey, Word Mage and Spell Rift at the top of the list if you haven't checked them out already (then there's the obvious Words with Friends / Scrabble if you want multiplayer).

You have a link to the Disney game? Can't seem to find it

I personally didn't find fault with the F2P system when I played it before, but upon loading it up I think they have have changed the "lives" to energy. Before you'd lose a life if you failed to clear a board (which basically never happens), I guess that didn't work out too well, so now they are using energy... even still, word games aren't really something I need to play for 3 hours on end. If you can get 5-10 games a go, it may still be manageable, I dunno.

A quick glance at the ratings show the first batch to actually be your typical facebook progress not syncing to iOS correctly, not complaints about the energy system, so if you haven't already started the game on facebook, you probably won't find all those negative reviews so applicable.

are there any games on iOS that are like commandos/desperados/robin hood? or remakes of them? i think they would fit perfectly on iOS, ipad especially.

The first one kind of invented the formula along others back in 2009, and Anomaly 2, which I got in the sale, seems to improve vastly the experience. And its 2$ instead of 5$. Lower price since half year or so. If you like what you see and like TD (this is more like a twist on the genre) games, go for it (Anomaly 2 which is the latest). Its 1.2 Gb installed.

I saw that the game Deemo went free on my tracker app. It's a rhythm game with these really serene piano tracks, at least so far. Enjoying it quite a bit. Well, at least that's what they're paying me to tell you.

Oh my gosh, everyone reading must download Deemo and unlock the song Jumpy Star. Thank you Japan, my game of the year is now decided. If anyone needs me, I'll be ticklin' the virtual ivories.

I really want to like Simogo games, but have never had any enjoyment from them.
I hated Cosmo Spin, and I got completely stuck on the very first puzzle of Device 6. I had to drop it, but maybe I should follow a guide.

I can't really get into it. I like the way the text scrolls and the sounds change as you get to new parts of the story. The game got huge, rave reviews.

But you know what? I can't figure out how to save my game and every time I think to give the game another chance I have to begin again from the very start.
Oh, it starts from the beginning each time too? Urgh. This will be pretty rough to go back to. I feel obligated to play this and it's clear that it's amazing for plenty of people.

How can I fail so thoroughly at the first puzzle? I play plenty of puzzle and adventure games, and I don't mind getting stuck, but this left me cold right from the outset. :(

If I recall well, Device 6 saves each chapter.
You do not start from the beginning, you always start from the beginning of the last chapter.
There is a reason for this, but it's clear just at the end (to me anyway).
Each chapter is really short so imho it's not really a problem (personally if it would save mid chapter I wouldn't remember the hints and wouldn't proceed).
You can easily 'explore' a chapter in under 10 minutes ('solving' it is another matter, of course).

But I love their games and I always play them obsessively for two days completing them so maybe it's just me.

As for the puzzle...sometimes you just have to put the game down, take a walk and think about the game...more often than not the solution will be perfectly clear when you come back.

For the first chapter...LISTEN to everything.

You have to figure out the door code...so you need NUMBERS...listen to the clue the radio is giving to you about where finding those numbers and the order to input them

Hope it helps!!!

The best thing about the Simogo games, imho, is that they transcend gaming for a broader experience.
I spent hours talking about Year Walk or Device 6 with friends conjecturing about the whole picture/story.

Can't wait for their next product!!!

Hey iOS Gaf community,

We ( moWOW ) just wanted to show you our small time traveling game: The Way Home.

It’s a fast arcade gameplay meets a “Quantum Leap” inspired story. It’s also twitchy when you get to the hardcore levels.

We’ve just launched a big update today for the light version that was available on the App Store.

It has more story and text than most games and the full unlock grants you infinite lives and all the stories unlocked. Did I mention that the full unlock is only $0.99 (down from 2.99$) for one week to celebrate the launch?

We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the game.

I think it only saves at each chapter. But considering most chapters only have a couple of puzzles in them, it only took me a few mins to get back to chapter 4 after I started it on a new iDevice.
