EA Exec Talks Dead Space, Dishes on Cliffy B

Mirror's Edge is UE3. That alone should end the whole UE3 bashing. It is just developers not trying to do new things with the engine.

:lol @ some person complaining about brown (twice within the first 10 posts at that). Axe to grind much?

:lol @ Cliff's comments. Whatever their intention (benefit of the doubt given) it is still funny whichever way you take it.

As for the game itself, EA seems to be on fire at the moment. If any western dev were going to give the horror genre a good shake up, EA would be the ones most likely to do it justice in the current climate.

@ Shins: precisely. Some UE3 games run like a dog. Others like Gears run beautifully. I see UE3 myself as like this gen's renderware (even if its not the same kind of thing). Games that use it all seem to have a similar look and/or feel, but the ones that are done well stand head and shoulders above the rest.

who said anything about wanting a super colorful vibrant game? i simply (emphasis on simply folks!) said i'd prefer less brown. i'd didn't suggest that i wanted the game to be some color fest like viva pinata.

So you don't actually have anything constructive to say, you just wanted to spout a meme.

The color pallet in the game makes sense. It is a fucking derelict space ship. Do you shout out "Lulz BROWN!" when you watch Aliens?

Lost Odyssey is an UE3 game too and doesn't look anything like Gears of War. Unreal Tournament etc.

Anyway I think Dead Space is going to be surprisingly awesome.

You mean claiming its a good game that was completely underrated by everyone?

It wasn't underrated because everyone said it was a good game :). I have that vibe about Dead Space, don't know about it getting awards though, as the dev wishes to happen.

opinions sure are a bitch for some to deal with, aren't they?

Same here.

I pretty much base my multiplatform purchases on stuff like this, though. Mirror's Edge I'll get for PS3, whereas The Last Remnant or Left 4 Dead I'll get for X360.

I would think so too, but then Mirror's Edge goes and decides to be developed on PS3, and now I'm all confused.

He added: "Right now we're leading and building and doing everything on the 360. Pretty soon in a month or two we will switch and lead on the PS3. That is so that you're not downgrading the PS3 later. We're putting all our engineering muscle into making the PS3 great, and then we'll know that the 360 will be great."

.

I felt some good hype from this game's trailers, but then these animated comics significantly diminished that. If they have that level of crappy storytelling and voice acting in the game itself, that will seriously suck.

It wasn't underrated because everyone said it was a good game :)
So, without people saying the game is good, while it's actually not good (which is what I got from your previous post), this will just be... not good - is that what you meant?

One of my most wanted games this fall. Maybe a bit too heavy on the Doom 3, 'shock' horror aspect but it's still somewhat original and it looks ace. Gameplay (using mining tools..etc to slice off pieces) and interface looks very interesting.

Dead Space sounds good, but I can't remember a game similar to it at all from EA. Anyone know what this team worked on before Dead Space?

Army of 2.
Not so great.

Wait? This team did Army of Two? I don't know about that.

By the way, I think this game looks awesome. It seems to have great atmosphere and the strategic dismemberment stuff is pretty rad as well. Can't wait to play it.

According to IGN:

The Godfather
Simpsons Game
From Russia with Love
The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07

This is their first game that isn't a licensed property, so maybe that is why it seems so awesome.

Army of Two was EA Montreal. This is EA Redwood Shores.

But what really gets my hopes up about this game is when he talks about the reason it exists: "We wanted to make a game for us," he said. A game the small-but-passionate dev team wanted to play itself. Every gamer wishes he or she had that kind of creative outlet, and the resources to fill it, and if we had that kind of access we wouldn't waste it. And in the pitch meeting, when EA's business side "saw the numbers Resident Evil 4, it was a fairly easy business case." It sounds like they're getting all the support they need to make a winner.
Who starts a sentence with "and"?

Ugh..

Before this thread completely goes to hell, does anyone know the lead development platform for Dead Space?

He said: "Sony has seen the game so they know that that's what they want out of us. But I can absolutely assure you that the PS3 and the 360 will be the same. We're not going to gimp the 360 because the PS3 can't do it. We're going to optimise the crap out of it and make the PS3 really good, sort of like Burnout."

Seems they switched.

Have these people seen these games?

Dead Space = RE4 in space, which looks awesome.

Dark Void = Gears with a jetpack, whicht looks awesome.

Both games look like they are going to be great.

both = have incredibly generic-sounding two word names starting with D, which is why people confuse them.

I think I'll continue to call him Cliffy B because I have no idea how to pronounce or spell whatever the fuck his last name is.

Bleszinski. Bles-zin-ski. BLES-ZIN-SKI. Didn't think it was that difficult to pronounce. Then again maybe that's just me.

Dead Space looks absolutely incredible.

My theory is that Dead Space is a test project for EA. If it does well, you can bet your ass they will make another System Shock game.

Mr. Durden said:
No Gears of War 2 will be an actual game. MGS4 is just an interactive movie.
There's probably more gameplay in that interactive movie than the length of Gear 2's sp campaign.

annoying ass little shits who are always whining about games being too gray or too brown. just shut the hell up already... it's annoying and really tired.
Well the game doesn't have a very fleshed out colour palette from what I can see. Anyway it looks like more of the same in more than just colour variation.

Just because in actual hours it'll last much longer. But in percentage, hell no. The difference is, Gears of War is one big adrenaline rush of intense action and gore. While MGS4 is a slow experience, with more cutscenes than gameplay. I mean, it takes already too much time to just get through the beginning.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a once in a lifetime experience, unrivaled by anything released so far this year. It's a fine crafted piece of art with an incredible story and the first game to succesfully connect previous titles to eachother to create a solid story line. The "bang" "bang" "bang" cutscene is enough to justify the purchase of a PS3 and the game. Metal Gear Solid 4 shows just how far ahead Kojima Productions is compared to other game developers out there. If I could give one game the 10/10 rating it would be Metal Gear Solid 4, perfect in every way. I'd like to go in detail but I don't want to spoil this game for the gamers who will open their eyes and a LTTP thread in 3 years time.

MGS4 is more than a braindead shooter offering 6 hours of fun, thats why:
MGS4/Super Mario Galaxy>Orange Box>>>>>>>>>Resident Evil 4>>>everything else
