EA Exec Talks Dead Space, Dishes on Cliffy B

I felt some good hype from this game's trailers, but then these animated comics significantly diminished that. If they have that level of crappy storytelling and voice acting in the game itself, that will seriously suck.
After groaning at the first few installments, I deliberately ignored Ep 4 of that animated thing, and I usually download everything. I mean, I downloaded the Madden '09 demo for crying out loud. But the Dead Space animated series can go die alone in a corner.

Still buying the game.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a once in a lifetime experience, unrivaled by anything released so far this year. It's a fine crafted piece of art with an incredible story and the first game to succesfully connect previous titles to eachother to create a solid story line.

I got to admit it, I never had interest in the series but got MGS4 for my birthday and tried it for the hell of it. I stopped playing on the second act... to start MGS1! I don't want the icing before the cake I guess.

Now I understand why people think the series is special. There's really nothing like it in gaming. So much attention to detail and creativity. I'm a Hideo fanboy now where ironically, 10 years ago when MGS1 I was busy playing Unreal 1 and dissing console games :)

One problem, the game uses EA's own graphical engine.

That's because his game isn't nearly as good as Metal Gear Solid 4.

At least I can play Gears of War, not just watch it. That alone makes it much better than Movie Gear Solid 4.

The "bang" "bang" "bang" cutscene is enough to justify the purchase of a PS3 and the game. Metal Gear Solid 4 shows just how far ahead Kojima Productions is compared to other game developers out there. If I could give one game the 10/10 rating it would be Metal Gear Solid 4, perfect in every way. I'd like to go in detail but I don't want to spoil this game for the gamers who will open their eyes and a LTTP thread in 3 years time.

MGS4 is more than a braindead shooter offering 6 hours of fun, thats why:
MGS4/Super Mario Galaxy>Orange Box>>>>>>>>>Resident Evil 4>>>everything else

If you think MGS4 is once in a lifetime experience, then obviously you haven't played many games. The game is pure garbage and it seem only Hideo Kojima fangirls tend to hype it to no end, even saying it's better than actual movies. Even the crappiest movie this year has a better storyline than MGS4. Like I've said Hideo Kojima is Uwe Boll version of the gaming industry, the only thing is that Hideo Kojima has fangirls who will hype the crap out of his crap.

I was looking through some videos for Dead Space, and there is actually a fair amount of variety in the color pallet. The main determinant seems to be the color of the lights, so areas with orange lights look brown, white lights look grey and green lights look green.

There's probably more gameplay in that interactive movie than the length of Gear 2's sp campaign.

IIRC, one of the big complaints about Gears was that you could beat the entire game in about 6 hours on some of the easier settings. MGS4 has an emblem for getting a perfect run on the hardest difficulty setting in under five hours. On medium or lower, you can probably beat the game in under four hours. It actually has less gameplay than Gears does.

That's a emblem. Speed runs & challenges. I think I had 19hours of MGS4 when I finished (-5 hours of cutscenes), 6-7 hours of Gears 1.

Wow, you're actually trying to base a games length on speed runs?

?? I don't get what the big deal is. Cliff mistakes the game running on UE. Where exactly did the "dishing" happen? Cliffy B is a designer anyways, not a tech guy so if he confused the game running on some other engine that isn't surprising.

SolidSnakex said:

I agree that a speedrun on easy in a game with large amounts of skip able content would be unfair, but MGS4 is almost entirely linear and this is based around getting no alerts, killing no enemies, never dying etc. Running through the game on medium with the sniper rifles, machine guns and rockets is a lot easier (and better represents how most people do it) and can be done by just about anyone in that time frame.

This is why i hate fanboys.

Screw you guys. destroying every thread with that fucking bullshit

Have these people seen these games?

Dead Space = RE4 in space, which looks awesome.

Dark Void = Gears with a jetpack, whicht looks awesome.

Both games look like they are going to be great.

theres also DARK SEKTOR that crappy gears ripoff. Too many games with similar names.

I'm intrigued, but I'm concerned it'll rely too much on Doom 3 scare tactics.

Dark corridors, flickering lights, suddenly lights go out and something starts attacking you. Rinse and repeat.

I probably need to read more on the game or videos. So far it looks like they got some good atmosphere going. I really hope the story is intriguing.

I think Dead Space is looking to be my "Event Horizon" of games. ;) This game is looking pretty damn cool to me. I haven't played a great horror game since RE4, though I'm looking to play some backlog PS2 survival horror games like Silent Hill 3 and Origins. But Dead Space is looking tight, and I hope it does end up looking and running exactly the same on PS3 and 360. At least it seems they're putting in effort on the PS3 version, which I'll be getting.

I agree with you totally on the shitness of thread destruction, but if you didn't want it to delve into that, maybe you shouldn't have emphasised Cliff B in both the OP and the title.

Dark Sector wasn't bad, and it isn't like these are the only games to have similar names. I know tons of people who often mistook Gran Tursimo with Grand Theft Auto, or even the dozen WW2 shooter series who have the same name over and over, or even God of War and Gears of War.

If anything that means the story in Dead Space could be fuckawesome. I've aslways wanted to check out Cold Fear because of his involvement with the title but could never find the game for the right price.

MGS4 is on my GotY shortlist so far, definitely, but c'mon. "Once in a lifetime?" Maybe if you only intend to play it once. :lol

The Dead Space hate is ridiculous. At least EA is actively trying to do new things now. Their Fall lineup looks great.

I suggest you PLAYING MGS4 through before commenting on it. There is a LOT of gameplay in that game, though there's even more story. You got caught up like many others of your kind, you read "there's more cutscenes" then you think no gameplay. Fact is, depending how you play the game, especially if you play it like you should, there is a LOT of gameplay.

And to call the game pure garbage is rediculous that anyone can say that, and "hype the crap out of his crap". Sorry the game's only on PS3. Go to teamxbox forums where you can snuggle up with others that will agree with you without playing the game.

The game is without a doubt, the pinnacle of gaming so far. In a way it's a shame it's only on PS3 because if it were on the 360 too it'll be accepted by much more. That faction is so rabid and filled with hatred, but why?

This guy is cool, he recognizes that torture porn is shit. I hope that style of game never shits up my favorite entertainment medium.

He says a lot of interesting stuff that has nothing to do with Gears of War, why don't we talk about that.

Define how there is a lot of gameplay. Stealth in that game is more of a secondary concern for most of the missions, so I don't consider that a valid reason to add more time to the game. You can play the game in the whole "ima gonna crawl around in da bushes so dey cant see me" and add on an extra couple hours, but then you are just being an idiot.

Most of the people I've talked to had about 16 hours on their play clock when they finished the game for the first time, and since there are about 8 hours of cut-scenes that gives us 8 hours of play-time. This is first time, so going through it a second time when you know how to play and have all the weapons, you could easily cut that in half. That is hardly tons of content.

The game is without a doubt, the pinnacle of gaming so far. In a way it's a shame it's only on PS3 because if it were on the 360 too it'll be accepted by much more. That faction is so rabid and filled with hatred, but why?

Factually incorrect. For the pinnacle of gaming, see Planescape: Torment. MGS4 doesn't even crack the top ten.

So wrong. Perhaps if you want to look at very recent history, but EA dates back a long long time, and has made some classics over the years.

So why did you buy it? It's not like there wasn't a precedent. The last three games had the same "problems". IMO it's your own fault for buying a game without researching what it's like. The same complaints have been lodged against the MGS series for years, though most people don't agree with them.

I didn't buy it. It was given to me as a gift for my birthday because they assumed I liked MGS series. Since I'm not one to sell gifts, I kept it and played it just for the sake of playing it.

Phoenix Fang has done nothing but troll MGS in the past so...

Kojima is an overrated hack who make boring ass games for sheeps to praise. Sorry but I like to play my games instead of watching boring ass B-rated cutscenes.

95% of series out there are better than the crap that is MGS series. As much as I hate God of War, I'd rather play that before I ever touch a MGS game again. Pure crapiness.

Don't worry, I own both and I honestly don't give a shit about MGS. One of the most overrated series. I'm not going to buy it for the PS3 or for the 360 if there is ever one.

You mean the same hack Kojima that said:

Xbox and PS2 were equal in power?
MGS 2 was the last MGS game he would work on?
MGS 3 was the last MGS he would work on?
MGS 2 was PS2 exclusive?

oh ok .....

I was never interested in the garbage that is the MGS series but there are people who loves it. I wonder how can someone play a game that is basically a low budget B movie wannabe, 2 hours of gameplay but like 10 hours of horrible cutscenes. I'm glad that hack kojima didn't make it into the movie business.

Looking at his post history he seems to have an anger problem.

I like dead space's hud system. I thought it was funny how people were noticing the hud system so late after the footage came out D:

Not sure if this is an insta-buy (I hate horror games that are in the dark), but definitely something I'll watch out for.
