No dual wielding?

Nofun_robot.jpg
context?

Dual wielding is fun but in the end did it really add that much to the game or shake up gameplay? ...no. I'm fine with it not being in Halp 5. (this just made me laugh)

Patiently awaiting my 1080/60fps Halo 3 footage. Really hope 343 begins to open the floodgates soon.

Pretty sure youre still able to do that by simply deciding not to press the duel wield button but alright
Yeah, but when designing a sandbox, I could see why Bungie and 343 would decide that dual wielding doesn't add enough to the gameplay to bother balancing it.

I would love for 343 to put out an entire 1080p60 trailer for Halo's 1 - 4 at Gamescom. Show us what we're paying for, and maybe a glimpse of the Halo 5 Beta.

Absolutely, in the end I wont miss it from much more than an aesthetic point, but I was talking about your "fluidly melee and throw grenade" point which was just false.

On another point, here's a good question for you guys. Melee
Halo 1 Melee or 2 Melee
Go

I say 1 Melee

Dual wielding was fun and the only reason I think they have removed it, is to make the guns feel more real I guess? I mean Master Chief did look stupid holding two SMG and reloading with one hand lol But I never thought it was powerful enough for them to consider taking it off.

Halo 2 launch melee.

The melee system was absolutely wrecked when desolation/tombstone shipped... so in terms of MCC... halo 1 melee >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> halo 2 melee

Halo games always have me the most excited pre-release. And I feel just as excited to replay all of these games I waited in line hours for years ago. Can't come soon enough.

I think it's more an issue of balance.

I wish someone had asked about whether Halo 5 and future titles will integrate into the single UI.

To choose between putting in one disc with Halo 1, 2, 3,4 and H2A multiplayer (and campaigns) vs putting in a disc with just Halo 5's multiplayer and campaign on it will feel like a step backwards.

I don't know how they'd do it - but I never want the Halo community to be split again.

I remember when Halo 3 was launching. I had mine preordered at a GameStop 45 minutes away. Well, my brother and our friend managed to get one from a "Mom & Pop" shop earlier that day (the store was right next door to the GameStop that I had mine reserved at). Just a couple of hours before midnight they came back with a copy of Halo 3.

I had to sit there and watch in pain and agony as they fired up a MP match and played on Guardian... until I left soon after to pick up my copy.

I don't know how this would be possible unless you buy both games digital. This is impossible thing to do, if you think it through.

Not sure if perception or reality, but I didn't like that dual-wielding created a weapons gutter: single smg, single pistol, single needler, etc. I'm one of those dirty hippies that believes that any weapon that is useless single-wielded probably shouldn't be in the game in the first place. Cut crap.

Shells aren't unheard of - any XBLA collections actually are all the titles on one disc, and you can boot up a shell that launches each shell. Reach and Halo 4 detect if you have Waypoint installed and bring up a menu item that will launch it directly.

The way you'd do it is either make the shell a free download later (where you have to buy the MCC games as unlock dlc) or Halo 5 installs the shell, then is basically done as 'dlc' that the shell can load.

That makes no sense. And let me come back to my point that you need digital version for the shells to work. Otherwise, even if you have a downloadable shell later, if you have both MCC and Halo 5 on separate physical disk. It will ask you to put the respective disk before launching it. So I don't see the point here. When the original question is to be able to scroll through between all 5 games and multiplayer. Basically identical to MCC collection on its own with Halo 5 added in it.

It's Microsoft, they could make an exemption where the shell would be allowed to read the installed data of both the games. They constantly re-wrote the rules for their own games that all of us other developers had to follow. Every time the achievement cap went up for example, it was always a Microsoft game that did it first, etc. If they wanna, it'll happen

Sorry to throw this in here but it seemed relevant... anybody have details on MS's Gamescom presser? Can't seem to find anything online.

What you are asking is Microsoft's original DRM plan except for 24hr check in. lol What stops me and my friend from installing Halo 5 on our consoles from one disk.

Include a one time use code with Halo 5 that allows the shell to load Halo 5, like how you had to have the key for Rock Band 2 and 3 to load Rock Band 1's songs.

Tons of stuff they could do, from being super strict to 'eh whatever'

Ship it.

Panel was okay. Felt a bit disorganized or repetitive, which is no big deal. The Blur stuff was a bit fascinating and its interesting to see how they've approached that. Biggest thing I took away from it though was how experimental the original Halo online was. Max Hoberman really made several swings for the fences there, so it's incredibly impressive how many of 'em stuck.

It has me excited for what he's attempted to do with the H2A maps.

It is funny, if Microsoft had managed to do the always online DRM then this would actually be really easy (although I wouldn't have bought an Xbox One) but thankfully we don't live in that world.

The Rock Band exporting model is one which I think could work with a little tweaking. MCC comes with a unique code which does nothing at first. Once Halo 5 releases you can use that code + $10 to export your MCC maps/campaigns into Halo 5's shell. You pay the $10 for the convenience of having all the maps and playlists in one location - then you can sell your MCC disc if you want to, but everyone will be selling it so the trade value will be really low and people who buy your used copy wont be able to export because the code has already been used.

People who buy both digitally don't need to mess with the codes and don't have to pay the export charge.

When Halo 6 comes out, you use the code which came with Halo 5 and pay another $10 to export Halo 5's maps/Campaign into Halo 6's shell... and so on for every release.

Stupid idea, but it's 5:15 in the morning and I love the single UI for MCC - I don't want to see it left behind. ($10 is just a random amount I chose based on the RB export cost)

Nothing has been announced yet. I don't expect to hear anything until Major Nelson is back from the Imagine Cup stuff he's judging at so at the absolute earliest, next week. With Quantum Break being a major showcase there, I expect them to actually have a briefing this year rather than their weird little press only roundtable thing they did last year.

The kill times in Combat Evolved were so fast that trying to melee someone to death, let alone get within melee range was a huge gamble. Using the double-melee grenade glitch to get a kill made me feel like a champ whenever I pulled it off lol. And yes, Halo 2's melee system was janky to the max, all in attempt to compensate for P2P lag/latency issues. Hopefully that never happens again with dedicated servers. I never liked it when both people died from almost, but not quite simultaneous melees, despite one person being slightly quicker and having more health/shields compared to the other. It was like Bungie was giving a runner-up consolation kill for the slower player.

Indeed, there'll be an actual conference this year and it'll be livestreamed. They're taking this Gamescom much more seriously than last year.

Sorry to get off topic but do you know if they have any surprises in store? I don't want to know what they are if they do but I would want to know if I should set aside time to watch the livestream.

That's a really good question.
Seems like we get a ton of legit rumors about E3 every year prior to the actual event, but seldom any internet heads-up about GamesCom stuff. And GamesCom is a pretty big deal in its own right; news happens there.
