This thread...

It's the most beautiful thing I've ever had the pleasure of reading on GAF. Spoiler whining is probably my biggest pet peeve ever, and I usually end up in the minority on that. Seeing mods come out full force to fight it is a dream come true.

Oh yah Thanos looks cool too.

Hey guys, stop the spoiler whining. There is no spoiler. Don't be dumbasses. The only potential "spoiler" here is revealing how he actually looks. Which you are free to not click on the thread if you don't want to know. Thanos being in the movie? That's not a spoiler, it's something they've been actively promoting and talking about. :P

Thank god.

guys i'm pretty sure he's joking.

ha, i actually get tons of spoilers from my kids. i ended up reading the picture book versions of monsters university and how to train your dragon 2 before we ever saw the films. kids don't care! maybe there's something to that :-)

edit: it's not just the books. my son described the whole plot of monsters to me after hearing it from a friend at school. lol

could you please not spoil the joke jfc

Do people even know what a spoiler is anymore? Holy Christmas.

Snape killing Dumbledore was a spoiler. A character you know jack shit about, being in a movie you know jack shit about (if you did you would have figured he'd be in it), and forgetting the fact that Marvel already have been advertising him in said movie playing said character, isn't a spoiler. I swear people like to complain just to complain.

Did you know it's sunny outside here in Texas? Sorry to spoil that for you.

Jesus is literally EVERYTHING considered a spoiler now? Marvel announced this months ago, they haven't made any attempt to keep it a secret. Those who consider every detail a fucking spoiler need help. It completely destroys any discussion whatsoever. We are on a bloody discussion forum. I could understand if it was a major plot twist but fucking casting news? Someone posted earlier that even music can be a spoiler. I'm sorry thats insane.

Anyway I think he looks pretty sweet.Going to see the movie this saturday and I can't wait.

What do you people mean "follow every detail"? Do you not go on yahoo, msn, AOL, uproxx, io9, any damn website that reports news? I didn't google jobs brolin wondering what he's been up to, it was on the news. Things that are on the news can't be spoilers, sweet Jesus.

Nope to any of those. It's not a dealbreaker but it would have been a nice surprise.

Some people dont follow movie news so they wont be spoiled with stuff like this

I'm obviously not spoiled in any way shape or form by this, just saying I understand where they are coming from.
I mean, that sucks for them? But they are posting on a nerd-culture heavy video game message board, which has no responsibility to oblige their restrictions. It's like a vegetarian ordering a steak and complaining there's meat in it.

I must say I wholly approve of the growing backlash against the whiny self-entitlement inherent to spoiler culture.

The "best" part is how uptight people get about something that even vaguely resembles what might be a spoiler. I could make up the most deliberately absurd shit, like that GotG ends with a graphic orgy scene, and someone would yell at me for it.

I can't believe someone actually argued we shouldn't discuss some trailer moments because it could possibly spoil the movie if we assume the context.

They already announced to the whole fucking world that Thanos was in GOTG when they announced Brolin's casting.

The GAF thread even said he was in GOTG in the title and no one complained then.

Spoiler complainers still aren't as bad as the "media blackout" people who spend all day in a games thread before it comes out and flip their shit if you say anything about a game like it's your job to shield their eyes from officially released media.

Looks really good

Where is Adam Warlock?

Guardians of the Galaxy 2: The Quest for More Guardians.

I want Mantis, but I think Hollywood has a rule about two green women at the same time.

I don't have that rule.

What about green men

Cause Love Bugg needs to be in it

So does Jack Flagg, so he can get knocked out every fight

All things aside, track names on soundtracks can spoil the holy shit out of movies. Examples: Dredd, GOTG, Transformers, etc

It was never intended to be a surprise, though.

I was going to quote all the other people talking about spoiler whining but this post would've been too long, but basically: That culture is stupid, this thread got ruined with people bitching about it, and it needs to die.

I honestly had no idea he was going to be in the movie. I figured he'd play a part in some way, but didn't know he'd actually be a presence. I haven't followed ANYTHING about this movie, and have only seen the very first trailer. Sometimes, you just want to go into a movie as blind as possible. I've been doing the same thing with video games also.

Spoiler thread titles are obnoxious, and the past week alone I've come across a few. Is it really that hard to be courteous, and consider that although it may seem strange to you, some people may have a different opinion on spoilers than you do? Especially when it comes to naming threads?

I haven't even been following GotG threads or news articles. I'm completely in the dark on this movie, and I won't be seeing it until next week probably.

I'm not talking about the movie's intentions, why would I care about that? Just my opinion that it would have been a nice surprise for me.

If mods want to deem spoiler whining bannable and have a set of official rules about spoilers in the TOS, that's up to them. Will make spoiler talk more easy to tread around, while right now it's a bunch of unwritten hearsay.

If you're that obsessed with avoiding info on a movie you shouldn't even be on any kind of sites where you could see info for said movie.

You going out of your way to avoid info does not make something Marvel has openly announced a spoiler.

It might be a nice thing to do, but no one has an obligation to cater to your self-imposed restriction. If you are having a personal issue that keeps repeating, perhaps it is time to analyze your own behavior instead of placing the onus on a majority which does not share your inclination.

It's not even about the movie's intentions, they have made it as public as humanly possible that he's in the movie, outside of putting him in a trailer. You have no leg to stand on here.

And we're honestly getting really fucking close to that being necessary, because shit like this thread getting ruined over it is complete nonsense

I thought the ComicCon stuff was about the MCU in general and future films and not GoTG1. I never clicked in the OT thread.

I'm not too miffed. I thought it would've been a nice surprise. Oh wells.

That was your own decision. Something that was openly released to the public, on multiple occasions, isn't a spoiler because you missed the memo. A spoiler doesn't mean, anything that is oblivious to you. If that were the case, every little thing would be a spoiler.

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't they announce Thanos would be in the film before SDCC?

Either way, Thanos being in Guardians of the Galaxy is about as surprising as Loki being in Thor. He's a cosmic villain.

They announced Brolin as Thanos before SDCC but didn't mention that he would be in GotG. However, a lot of people in the know were spilling the beans about his appearance so Marvel gave up and officially announced that was in GotG at SDCC.

Never noticed how unfair some people get with people who don't want to be spoiled, I forgot we were in the matrix and must have every bit of info absorbed into our skulls.

Thanos looks ridiculous out of all the marvel characters to me and I like the way they all look.

It doesn't matter whether or not you have seen the information, as long as it is officially and publicly available. No one else can be accountable for what you have or haven't seen.

Getting irritated reading this thread, especially with those calling for OP's head and being incredibly rude over something like this.

For those asking him to be considerate, what fine line do we think of as "considerate"? The character has been publicly announced by Marvel and the news has been out there for some time. Putting "Spoiler is in GotG" as the thread title would've done nothing but deter those from the thread who already knew Thanos was in the movie, because the word "spoiler" would probably indicate that it is a significant element of the movie intentionally kept secret by Marvel.

Anyone who followed the movie or read news about it knows about this character, and anybody who is knowledgeable about the character in the first place from comics should have had a giant flag going off in their head that Thanos is very likely to appear in this movie. So I guess the people getting spoiled are those that only saw Thanos at the end of Avengers, and looked him up on Wikipedia? Then by that case shouldn't people be offended when others talk about Ronan in GotG? After all, he's a major character in the film that wasn't featured in the first trailer. What if I'm trying to go on media blackout, shouldn't I expect all of you to be considerate of me?

If you truly think this is a spoiler when by the definition of the word it isn't, then honestly you should just avoid GAF and the internet because there's no way to reasonably consider what a "spoiler" is like in this case.

Wow this thread is a clusterfuck.

Anyway, he looks decent. Not that much of a fan, but hopefully it looks better on the big screen.

Wrong. Brolin was announced for GOTG.

Edit: beaten like janet van dyne

That wasn't the announcement though. Go back to the source of the story Variety posted. It's Latino Review who received their information from "sources". That wasn't the announcement. If you read the Latino Review story, they even say that Brolin's agent isn't talking about it yet.

An announcement comes from Marvel and they mentioned at SDCC they were finally revealing the worst kept secret in Hollywood, Thanos in GOTG.

Basically though, everyone knew what was up.
