Darren Aronofsky's 'The Wrestler'

The Wrestler tells the story of a old professional wrestler (Mickey Rourke) barely making a living on the independent circuit, who is told by a doctor that he could die if he wrestles again. It’s a film which attempts to do for wrestling what Rocky did for boxing. Marisa Tomei plays a stripper friend named Cassidy and Evan Rachel Wood plays his estranged daughter Stephanie.

Really have no idea what to expect out of this. Should be interesting.

Rourke's botched face-job actully probably helps sell the film's concept, and after seeing Tomei in Before the devil knows you're dead, the women knows how to keep looking good for her age.

i think the prince would be a good match-up for THE WRESTLER
both seem to go the same style academy.

stripper scenes with girls in clothes = lame

lol, guess who was originally suppose to be the star of the film?
'Nicholas Cage' was originally set to star in the movie. He was seen at a Ring of Honor wrestling event in NYC doing research for the part.

They apparently shot at least some of the wrestling stuff at a CZW event in Philly. That should be awesome to watch because Philly's wrestling fans are insane. :lol

I love Aronofsky's work, so I'm really excited for this.

Have you seen Requiem for a Dream?

You need to have a little faith in DA and what he will or won't put in his stripper scenes :lol

Does this have a US distributor yet? IMDB says no and I don't recall hearing anything about it.

I really like the supporting cast. Ajay Naidu's back with Aronofsky, plus Judah Friedlander, Mark Margolis, and Todd Barry.

Mr. Naga... Naga... Naganaworkhereanymore?

How the hell does Aronofsky go from his kind of movies to a sport movie all of a sudden?
This just seems so out of no where for him to make this.

What the hell did Rocky do for boxing?

i´m pretty sure every fucking gym in the world was crowded after the first 4.
it surely also boosted the ratings in the "real" fights AND rocky is now pretty much THE picture book boxer in everyones mind.
not very bright, lots of work outs, big heart.

would be great if many young teenagers would look to the world of wrestling as a job opportunity after watching aronofskys new movie.

Hmm.. dunno if this is going to be an inspirational film judging by the director's early work.

If his finisher is the Diamond Cutter, I am there day one.

But of course it has to have a different name.

Chart Buster
Stunner
Diamond Cutter
God I'm tired I know I can add to this list but I just can't

Wow. Marissa Tomei as a stripper = I'm in. Actually you had me at Darren Aronofsky and then again at Mickey Rourke as a Pro Wrestler. This could be amazing.

Also, who else is surprised that Marissa Tomei still looks good?
Not me, I saw Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.

you mean the 20 minute short he made? .. i really dont think this has anything to do with that film.. other than both being about old wrestlers.

It was an easy joke.

I'd start to worry if his next one is called "The Fourth Man" or "Business is Business."
