It should. I know the Amazon Fire TV and Xbox Live versions do.

Speaking of the Fire TV, I recently found out that it supports USB controllers. So since the Taxman versions of Sonics 1, 2 & CD support controllers on the Fire TV, I bought a USB adapter from RetroUSB (Retro-Bit cable doesn't work on the Fire TV) and am playing widescreen Sonics with a genuine six-button pad (MK-1653). It's amazing.

The 32X's development was a rushed mess, I thought it was conceived in a hasty business meeting at CES that year. SoA themselves were more interested in the idea of Sega Neptune (having the 32X and mega drive tech in the same case), but SoJ were convinced it should be released as an add on.

I imagine the truth is something like, SoJ were keen to get the 32X/Mars tech rolled out, tried to sell it to SoA a few times. SoA already knew the Mega CD had flopped hard and were not entirely keen on another Genesis add on so they passed until CES 94 where SoJ basically made it clear that stopgap needed to be there to keep customers happy till Saturn and that 32X was that thing.

By the point 32X was coming around, it's about the point where SoJ were starting to feel like they needed to lord over things in other markets more. SoA were backed into supporting their project of the month, then left looking a bit silly when SoJ basically dropped the baby on them, then sent orders down on high to cancel support of anything that wasn't saturn a year or so later

That Lufia prototype was dumped earlier this year, but that video shows pretty much all there is to show. According to the guy who dumped the ROM, it was outsourced to a US-based company called Teknocrest which never really made a serious attempt to complete the port; they made a bunch of mockups and trade demos in order to convince Taito that the game was coming, but it was all just a ruse to milk them for as much money as possible. The dude says they were reacting to what they thought was an unreasonable contract--impossibly short deadline, no assets or code from the original devs, etc--but he also openly admitted that it was a scam.

So I just got a copy of Sonic CD that ebay claimed: "The game is like new, with no wear on it."

There are one or two fairly small but deep scratches on this thing. Is the Sega CD pretty robust about reading discs with that sort of thing, or am I looking at resurfacing this?

Holy shit. That's a really interesting story. Shame the whole "port" was BS to begin with.
 
Something I find fascinating and I wish to know why it happens is why do you get infinite lives and other weird stuff like Japanese title screens when you swap cartridges without turning the system off.

Try to do that on a NES or SNES and nothing like that happens.

pretty sure it still won't be worth too much but i've been wrong before! plus you can find one cheap enough these days. personally i'd love to try the 32x/Sega-CD one just to see what's different!

^again i really had to fish around on Sega-16, found a nice dude who runs a retro shop out in france & was already ordering a few extra copies anyway! sends me updates when they come but they've been scarce recently.
and yeah, there were people actively shitting on my efforts to secure one as well, shit was kinda childish but that's what you're up against here apparently, haha

see i may not think a whole helluva lot about resellers but at least i get that

some of these dudes were like "nah son i ordered day 1, don't let these newjacks get what i got" which is such a terrible mindset to have, especially given that i didn't know the project existed and it's not like we even have a name or anything past a few screens at this point

I hate that shit. I'd love to get in on either of Watermelon's projects but despite signing up for their newsletter years I never heard jack shit from them. It's really dumb cos it seems like there's tons of people wanting to throw money at them, and now you can't.
 
Pier Solar is being reprinted now and will supposedly be available in a few weeks. You can still preorder for $60, and they might have some excess cartridges. However it seems it took so long because they had trouble getting enough preorders to reach for the minimal printed quantity. They started it nonetheless, which means they may sit on a few cartridges for a while but also it might very well be the last batch they do. They may not bother printing more again.
 
Huh, so there actually IS a reprint on the way? There's so little information on that site, I wasn't sure if it was talking about a reprint from years ago.

The second game released in the "trilogy" for the Sega Genesis/Mega drive, Shadow Dancer proves itself to be the most challenging of the three, testing the player with true, one hit death arcade caliber gameplay!

And now for the rules:
  • All options are left at their default settings
  • Single credit only, no continues! Play until your life count is 0, and then pause at the very start of your 0 life. Alternate: Your final score when / if you defeat the last boss.
  • While this screen is displayed, take a picture of the screen with your user name written and attached to your TV / Monitor / display of choice. Only an actual picture of the entire display and name attached, taken by a camera/phone/etc. will count. No emulator screenshots!
  • Make sure to type your score in the post as well.
  • You can post as many times as you want, but of course your highest score before the deadline will be the one that counts.
  • No cheat devices, save states, or turbo controllers of any kind.
  • The length of the contest will be from Thursday July 24th until Thursday August 7th @ 11:59pm PST.You can post as many entries as you want during the challenge, but of course, only the highest score you posted will count towards winning.

Yeah. They have been sending out emails to people that had it preordered every so often, and last one was at the beginning of the month saying just a few weeks left and they have just about everything done other then the boards.

Mind posting your top 10 favorite games, or games you think deserve particular attention?

I looked at a few 'must own' lists, but those tend to focus on all the same games.
I have a high tolerance for games with some issues, but are still great otherwise.

Won't you share with me? Can include PAL or Japanese only games too.
 
I've been on the fence myself, but seeing it was finally going somewhere I decided for it. I'd advise you to do the same if you're even remotely interested in this game.

- Greendog (the beached surfer dude!)
- Syndicate
- Ecco, & 2 (better on CD)
- Mickey Mania (better on CD)

I have so much stuff on my want list I'm not even starting to put it here.

Pretty much everything is worth it, you may want to play Syndicate on a PC with a mouse, but this version is cool too. I think. I'm not good at this game.

You know what's odd? I never played Gunstar Heroes. Very odd considering that I played a lot of popular Genesis games.

Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Pricey!)

Tiny Toons: Acme All-Stars

Honorable Mention:
Virtual Pinball. This is a very different kind of pinball game, but the real interest here is the level editor. You can make some really crazy stuff and there are a healthy amount of visual styles to choose from.

Edit: Rolling Thunder II is indeed great! I just got a copy though, so that's why it wasn't on my list.
 
I'll list a few:

BioHazard Battle - Shooter where you are shooting at big bugs/monsters. Really like this game and don't believe it is on anything else

X-Men - Believe this was also only on the Genesis. Side scrolling beat-em up with X-Men characters. You get to play as NightCrawler and try to do his teleport, so that is my main reason for choosing it. Pretty fun if you don't mind 'not best ever' games.

Alex Kidd - Not a good game at all, but holds a special place in my heart. You get to punch dudes with an oversized fist, one-hit kills, and bikes and cars that jump. Also, you fight bosses through Ro Sham Bo.

Quackshot - As mentioned above. Donald with a plunger gun. Makes for an interesting platformer since you can 'make' platforms.

Vectorman - An alright action game. Kind of what Sega did in response to DKC, graphics were the main selling point if I remember. Game is fun though.

Thunderforce II - An overhead shooter , kind of gives you the whole map to go in, but there are borders that if you cross hurt you. Never played three, so don't know how that compares.

Herzog Zwei - A pre RTS, RTS. You have a main base and are constantly collecting currency. You play a jet fighter that can turn into a dude or a transport ship. You have to try to take out the opposing base by building troops tanks and stuff, most have at least two options. while also protecting your base. There is a score system in there as well. Never played two player, but hope to sometime. Takes a little bit to understand the game as well.

Decapattack - A platformer where you get to throw your headat bad guys.

Pretty sure you can get any of these for less than $20.
