Stumbled on a Dan Ryckert Bingo Card from his GI days. A year old, but still surprisingly relevant

That sounds about right...

What's the difference between The Rekreational and The International ?

The international is the biggest dota tournament, basically dota's world cup. It happened last month.

The rektreational is a casual tournament by/for people in the game industry, and Brad's team is playing right now! http://www.giantbomb.com/chat/

EDIT: If you dont know what you're looking at, Brad's team (with the cheeky name League of Legends) is the team with the red healthbars. The need to destroy the enemy base in the bottom left while protecting their's in the top right. It's a best of 3, they lost the first round but Crispy is dragging them kicking and screaming to victory this round.

Brad is playing as Luna, a lady that rides on a lion and summons purple beams from the sky. Crispy is playing as Shadow Fiend, some ungodly looking spiky black thing.

What does the name mean? Combination of Recreational and International? Why the spelling though? Is it meant to be Rekt / Wrecked? Because that is awful if so.

Man, the moment in the Wii Sports QL where they are setting up baseball and they are both looking at the screen and saying "This doesn't work, what the hell" without realizing Brad has to click the bumpers on the Gamepad

Just got internet access in my BEQ since getting out of Boot Camp. Catching up on the recent podcasts and E3 coverage.

Also, I guess the Dan Ryckert hire was true. And Jason Oestreicher join too. That's cool.

Anyway, what's the must watch/listen stuff I missed over the past two months?

Rektreational is a little on-the-nose for my tastes. Incorporating flavour of the year internet slang into your event name is ill-advised, when it's my advice that's being offered.

In a few years it'll be as bad as if it was called Teh Pwnternational, or the DOTA 1337le League.

The teams have switched sides, so now LoL have the green healthbars and need to destroy the enemy base in the top right.

Brad is Luna again, the lion-riding moonlady with the awful voice, Crispy is Silencer, the purple dude that silences people.

I can kinda understand late-game DOTA, but early game is still a mystery to me

It's the exact opposite for me. Early game I can kinda judge the strength of my enemies and follow what's happening in the small ganks/teamfights, but lategame teamfights are just clouds of particle effects where people drop like flies for unknown reasons to me.

Some people get so worked up over slang. It is what it is.
why do ppl catch feelings over slang?

I mean, Dota unapologetically has "pwn" and "ownage" built into the game. It's already too late to save it. Might as well go all the way.

Still better than the fucking billboards in Watch Dogs

It's kinda odd how the entire Daily Dota team hasn't learned much from Crispy in terms of basic gameplay. I mean don't get me wrong, none of them are bad by any means but it's just unbelievable how big of a skill difference there is between Crispy and the rest of the gang even after two years of playing Dota 2.

Brad and Matt are very bad if you take their overall playtime into account. They're not "This is my first match, lol!" bad, sure, rather "I'm 50 hours in, I think I'm slowly getting a grasp on the basics" bad. I don't think this can be salvaged. Brad's situational awareness seems almost non-existent at times, that's the killer. He knows a thousand hours worth of Dota about the game, but he can't execute it.

EDIT: I don't mean to say that he should just stop playing the game or anything like that. He's enjoying himself and that's all that matters.
