Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

I'm planning on doing a countdown when we have 20 POTD's left before the Japanese release date, so two weeks from today. So, we won't know the winner until the day before launch. As far as thread titles, I'm sure we'll have some new character announcements that will take precedence, but I'm glad people are excited to see the results.

that's pretty neat... thou it would be sad if someone's fav character is one of the first to be revealed lol

do you plan to do a most wanted newcomer or something like that too? thou I think it would take even more time to come up with something like that

good luck with the poll!

Man, watching the Palutena trailer again, Dark Pit showing up looks tailor-made for a character reveal. Wonder why they didn't go through with one... is he not ready or not showing up at all?

Also, how exacly doesthe english patch from From The Frog Bells Tolls or whatever its called work? Do you somehow transfer the patch to a Japanese cartridge that you import, or do you just download a rom? (I'd obviously buy the cartridge before I download the rom.) Wanna try this game some day. Is it possible to play without English? Obligatory NNNNOOOOAAAA!!!!!!!!

You'd need to patch a ROM - the legal way to do so would be to import the game, create a romdump of the game for personal use, and run it via an emulator.

It's possible to play in Japanese, but it's Zelda-level in complexity, so you'll be missing some cues on where to go next/what do to when you get there. And the characters/world are a big part of the appeal, for me at least, so I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm having people say their most wanted newcomer (including already announced ones for Smash 4), but I'm not sure if that'll result in a Top 20 as people are really voting all over the place. I sort of expected that, but what I may do is just reveal the most entertaining ones for the first 15 days and then countdown the top 5 in the last week. We'll see how things go as the results come in.

EDIT: Also, just hit 100 votes! This is getting a lot more participation than anticipated, which is great.

Showing him off without doing a character reveal says, to me, that he's either a boss, an assist trophy, or tied to Palutena in some way.

It's very possible that KI characters could show up drum up some banter on the Palutena's Temple stage.

Personally, I really hope Dark Pit is a stage hazard or something. Although seeing Game & Watch in Pacman's trailer but not formally revealed makes me think of these cameos could be hinting at hidden characters. I slightly feel the same way about Chrom even though Sakurai disconfirmed him and he's Robin's final smash, there's just something awfully fishy about Chrom's in-game model being insanely detailed. I guess I could dream though.

Or an alt skin, yeah.

The other option is that he's getting his own trailer later, which would be silly.

or he's in the game and this was just a weird way to announce him, especially compared to lucina

Masked Man, Geno, Shulk, Kamek.

I'm leaning more towards character.

However, we're pretty much guaranteed some banter I think. I'm kinda upset no one tried to smash taunt with Pit on the Chapter 11 stage in the 3DS demo, as far as I know anyways.

Also, I kinda think if Dark Pit was a boss, we'd have seen a Dark Pit alt for Pit already. It'd be a bit of a blow to no longer be able to play as something that at least looks like Dark Pit.

I mean, he's definitely something. I'm going for a boss/stage hazard for Palutena's Temple or an unannounced Kid Icarus stage. Would be cool to have a boss that isn't a giant monster, but actually a player sized combatant.

Though, in all honesty, the whole boss thing is my least favorite new feature announced for this game.

I have no idea what I just voted for but okay, I did it anyway.
Haha, great!

I think it's be crazy to have Dark Pit - a characters smaller than most actual playable characters - as a stage boss on what might be the biggest stage in the series history. He wouldn't even have OHKO potential like the Ultimate Chimera. Hades or Medusa would be MUCH more appropriate bosses for Palutena's Temple.

At this point I don't really know what to think - an alt, maybe, a clone, maybe, an Assist Trophy, maybe. At this point I'm kinda pulling for a clone, actually; giving him alternate Uprising weapons would be cool. But then, alternate colors, how would that work?

Super confusing situation, really.

Oh dear, it would totally suck if he was a stage hazard like Chimera in New Pork City, but it would make sense. I think the Chimera was added just so people wouldn't camp in one spot since the stage is ridiculously big.

If he's like Assist Trophies which can now be hit (thank god), I wouldn't mind it too much.

Yeah, It's very confusing. I really hope that we don't get too many stage with stage bosses because I'm concerned with what I'm seeing with Yellow Devil.

I hope we get a Female Pikachu alt..

Actually, that would be cool. I hope so too. They only need to edit the tail, right?

I'm fine with stage bosses if they can be toggled.

What's with so many leaks suggesting the Duck Hunt dog? The inevitable duck-mob final smash would be amusing but how could he be controlled?

I'm imagining a character that can only be played using wiimote+nunchuck. All the nunchuck does is control the character's movement, and the wiimote is used to point at enemies and shoot + motion-based specials. That sounds terrible

lol i'll be really surprised if Dark Pit does end up becoming a character. In the worst way possible. I'm sure he showed up at the end of the Palutena trailer as a way of showing he'll be in the game, whether as a boss character in smash run or an event in event mode.

Still expecting a recolor, as with Dark Link. :p

Well in a sense they can, FD ver. of the stages...

But it's such overkill :( Even melee tourneys use stuff like battlefield or pokemon stadium. It'd be so cool if we could get 3 variants of every stage- Full-chaos, stage hazards and bosses off, and FD. Maybe add in a battlefield or similar "minimalist with platforms" option.

Ah well. It's nice to dream. Put it on the ssb4 hyper fighting championship tournament ultra hypothetical edition wishlist.

I don't believe he stated weather you can toggle them or not.

Sakurai was clearly uninterested in the idea of toggleable stage hazards in interviews, and since bosses are just advanced versions of those he'd probably follow the same logic

Expecting a toggle is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Next newcomer video will be all about flat characters: It will feature Game and Watch in a game and watch themed stage. All of a sudden, a beat starts playing and the camera pulls back to reveal that the stage is actually the game and watch themed game from Rhythm Heaven, and the chorus kids are revealed. The two dance to the beat, but one of them is bopped on the head by a hammer, in time with the music. It's Paper Mario! A few in-game shots of the three characters are shown, revealing some of their movesets. Camera fades to black, but then fades back up to show Ridley, face down on the ground. "I'll get my chance... another day." he says, as he turns his head from the camera.

"No, you'll get your chance today!" says the text on the bottom. Cue footage of the flat Ridley sprite from the original metroid appearing as part of Game and Watch's new final smash, which summons a bunch of flat boss spirtes from past Nintendo games.

The huge disappointment to Ridley fans notwithstanding, this would be an incredible trailer.

Why would Chorus Kids be 2D when Wario isn't?

Stage hazards off would be stupid, honestly. I can't think of any stages in the series so far that would benefit from it. Bosses, on the otherhand, are a big enough distraction that it could benefit from being turned off.

Take away the Ridley stuff and this would actually be an epic trailer.

Warioware minigames were obnoxious as hell after hours of playing.

I don't remember him saying anything about that, got a link?

Sakurai on the level of customization in the game… You can still manage the appearance of items, but you cannot disable the damage caused by the stages. If we propose such an option, it might as well be PlayStation all-stars!

Yeah, I'm aware that he said stage hazard but I have a feeling that stage bosses are considered to be apart of stage hazard term.
