PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

Sounds like we're now entering the beginning of the end for the Vita in NA.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=123512270&postcount=84

It had to come to this eventually, retailers are getting fed up with the Vita not selling enough. And then it's only going to get worse from there.

They said the same with the Wii U consoles, and look at where we are now.

Best Buy has always been garbage at updating any section of games or system that don't have a non-port of Call Of Duty.

But if the Vita dies here, that will definitely impact the flow of localization and indies.

Localization maybe, but indies seem to know what they're getting into and best I can tell are getting the sales they want as they keep coming back. NISA and IF International seem pretty dedicated to Vita too.

The dreadful irony that the Vita is the only handheld that could potentially have a non-shit version of COD. Yes I know Blops Vita was shit, but Mercenary proved you can do it right.

That would be really bad for the vita fan, but still, I kind of doubt it a little bit, I don't know this user or his history and credit in Gaf, or how reliable is his source.

I just bought the new slim vita, which should arrive today. I was at Target yesterday and they had a PSP case on clearance for $5. Would the new slim vita fit in that case?

We talking a thing that physically attaches to the Vita or like a carrying case that's just a big empty hole? Vita 2000 is smaller in every way, so it'll fit in a pouch type thing for Vita 1000, but the size difference and different ports (I think) mean any 1000 attachments are pretty much a no-go for the 2000

The hard plastic carrying case. I figured it would fit because it is smaller. For $5 I took the gamble.

He doesn't like P4G, Gravity Rush, or Tearaway, so he's obviously a horrible, soulless individual.

Joking aside, I wouldn't take the word of a Bestbuy floor worker too seriously regarding company-wide decisions. With the stock issues the Borderlands 2 bundle had, it's more likely that the employee connected the low availability/shipments with no longer stocking the Vita at all.

That sounds like a bad idea, if it's not an exact fit (and it most certainly won't, the PSPs and Vitas are all shaped differently) it will move around inside the case.

Is people like this allowed to post on GAF? They shouldn't.
joking

I still think retailers won't drop the system completely. Especially now that Sony is "winning"

PS4 -> router (via wifi) -> Vita (via wifi) will never be better than PS4 to Vita as long as the PS4 and Vita are closer together than the PS4 and router, and there is no obstructions present with thee PS4 to Vita that are not present between the router signal.

You are adding an extra step for the wireless to information through when using a router as opposed to ad-hoc. The router method is only best once you get out of the effective wifi range of the Vita and PS4, and then your router is acting as a signal booster. Unless Sony has awful code for the ad-hoc connection, it would not make sense for a connection via router to provide a better signal than direct (given that the PS4 and Vita are closer than the PS4 and router).

I have tried both and the direct connection is night and day better, until I move the Vita to a location with several walls in between the PS4. The PS4 or Vital will be the weakest link if you have a good router, and the performance will be based on their wifi capabilities, instead. However, with he router, you are just adding an additional piece of hardware to slow down the signal as it must then be processed and redirected.

It heavily depends on the quality of your wireless connection. If you have a good router (and not a cheap ISP provided $20 pos) it will easily best a PS4 direct connection.

Of course, if you sit right next to the PS4 you're negating its wifi disadvantage as much as possible, but also negating the point of Remote Play. Just going through a wall or two is enough to show a significant difference between a good network setup and what Sony engineers thought was good enough to check the "it supports wireless" item on the box.

Really happy you can preload on Vita. Did a recent firmware add this? Never saw the option before but was able to preload a bunch of the Play games :)

I spend more on Vita releases than any other platform.. I don't know the sales numbers though.. would love to see how games like Rogue Legacy and The Swapper perform on it, its a shame Sony seems to be willing to let it die off slowly. Feels like another Dreamcast scenario, but at least that had massive third party support.

Every time I connect my Vita to PS4 to recharge, the PS4 tells me the hardware is unsupported. And I cry on the inside.

I just read that and a few days ago I went to Best Buy here in Toronto and it looked like they just got a new shipment of Vita's. There were at least 7-8 when a few weeks ago there was only one left.

Speaking about PS4 I'm feeling like Sony put a bit too much effort into making it cheap.

Compared to Vita 1000 and fat PS3 it really feels like there's a class of quality difference.

Then again it's not like I'm touching any part of it apart from DS4 so as long as pads are good I don't really mind

Material of the console feels a bit cheap but hell it's the same stuff the ps3 slim. And so tiny. I got a shot of it next to my full tower pc. It's so dinky and cute.

I wonder why so many people are having problems finding a Vita. The Walmarts and GameStop's here in Orange County, California has tons of the Vita 2000's in stock and are being sold without BorderLands 2.

I feel like going out to the 3 WalMart's in the area to prove myself. The closest one to me had at least 15 behind glass and now there are like 3 and I've seen similar patterns in the past month.

I wonder if people are just trying to scare Vita owners or are just trolling.

My local Best Buy has always had a shitty selection of Vita games. They clearanced a ton of PSP accessories and Vita memory cards at some point last year so I figured they were clearing shelf space. I go in Wal Mart and I could probably get any physical release I want from the last 12 months. They were the only place on release I could find that had FFX HD for Vita.

Well Amazon doesnt' seem to have any non-gouging units, but apparently others like Best Buy do. Not sure why Amazon is behind, of all places.

BestBuy has always had a crappy selection, it always seemed like the go to place for dudebros.

Even the 3DS sections are lacking.

I for one would take anything an in store clerk says about a product with a grain of salt. Who in their own retail field hasn't pulled info out of thin air when they don't know something for sure?

It doesn't matter if you have the best router on Earth; you're still using the PS4's wifi to send and receive from the router. The PS4 would still be the weakest link.in the setup. If your PS4 cannot send and receive a good signal to the Vita 10 ft away, it will not send or receive a good signal from the best router 10 ft away, no matter the router. Weakest link; if the PS4 or Vita are, they always will be regardless of how many other pieces of hardware handle and redirect information.

Best Buy, Target, Toysrus KMart, and Walmart have not had any units in stores for almost two months.

Amazon appears to have new stock at the moment. Gamestop continues to have stock. Best Buy has had stock online, but no listings for store inventory for several weeks.

I am not trying to troll people, nor would I want to scare anyone. I was simply reporting what the GM of my local store told me. :)

For what it's worth, Future Shop is out of stock for the BL2 bundle online, but at least half of the stores (in QC at least) still have it in stock.

I just wasted $12 on Persona 4 Arena because because my brain shut down for a few seconds and I forgot that it was region restricted. Oh well.

*bites table*

Congrats you own literally the only physical PS3 game that is region locked. A collector's item!

If Vita dies, I'll just have a more manageable collection goal.

I thought this about the Dreamcast. Holy crap that's a lot of games for a "dead on arrival" console.

Yeah... I'm thinking of finally getting J-Stars and that's going to set me off on a long, dark path when Vita becomes a Japan-only console for 2 or 3 years.

I was looking at the JP boxart thread and started wanting things, but then realized 95% of them were VNs I can't friggin understand anyway so whatever. I felt stupid enough for buying the Super Sonico PS3 game that at least has non VN gameplay, or my JP shmups where I can't understand the story or in a few cases, the descriptions/UI. I'm glad JP arcade games at least usually have english UIs.

Why took you so long? My import collection is increasing every month.

Buying vita imports shows a happier world. A world without bad vita sales, lack of support and exclusives, first party support and cute anime girls bubbles.

Is much actually playable? I understand less than 20 japanese words and "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" is the only letter I recognize. Vita doesnt' seem to have the jp only shmups that 360 has. I almost got Shinovi versus, glad I didn't.

If it makes you feel better there are traces of English in J-Stars. As in, when the characters get introduced before the battle their English translated names are stylistically merged with their Japanese one for whatever reason

At least all my imports are quite playable.

My god, that fight is amazing. The field is Yoshiwara, Shinpachi portrait it's just its glasses and Gintoki's moveset is as random as the series. If I get this game some day that guy would definitely be my main <3

I pick up anything that doesn't get a physical NA release, if an English language release is available somewhere... but J-Stars seems like the perfect candidate, 'cause it's never going to happen and isn't all that text heavy... plus it's cool and I just want it.

If we had a thread dedicated to reviewing JPN Vita releases, speculating on their likelihood of localization and theorizing how enjoyable they can be with a language barrier... I'd already have been putting a list together.

Anyone know if the 21 music tracks in the Anison Sound Edition are actually on the game card, or if they're a DLC voucher? Not interested if it's DLC.

Yeah, a glut of glorious shmups would have me importing by the tons... words lol

I nearly preordered the LE of Danganronpa 2 then I realised I'd never look at any of that stuff. Cool as some of it is, it's just not worth it like pretty much all LEs.

I did that too, and the same with Disgaea 4. I bought a couple LE/CE's of stuff that I really didn't need to, and realized I don't need these. I think Memories of Celceta is the only actually good one tbh, aside from the collector's value of DJ Max.

Hell, I got better swag from pre-ordering regular copies of Muramasa & Dragon's Crown... CD and an artbook. Tiny steel cases would be sweet :P

I kinda regret not getting the LE for the first game, because the soundtrack is sooooooo good.

Is it still possible to buy the LE for the sequel? NISA's store is already out of stock.

Surely you can just listen to it on youtube, I know that's not the same. I actually think soundtracks are the only worthwhile thing in LEs. I can't bring myself to play Dark Souls 2 but the soundtrack is epic (I don't mean epic XD lol epic, I mean literally epic).

I bought the Dark Souls 2 LE OR CE whatever the expensive one was, the statue is utterly pointless. Although LEs and CEs seem to hold or increase in value so it's all good if you regret buying them.

The only LE I have that isn't just one of those first run editions like Killer is Dead is this bad boy
8405446329_0d7a0a3984_z.jpg

Worth the extra $20

I rarely see an LE worth buying, they're mostly just a bunch of crap. I don't need all these things clogging up my apartment.

I don't get the appeal of artbooks. I'll look at them once and then put them away. Doesn't help that most of them are just lowest quality softcover crap. And in many cases they're all just illustrations that are included in the in-game gallery! So dumb.
