Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

so much this. The two platforms I would want to play this game on are sadly absent.

I was way more excited about this yesterday when it was just a rumor, because in my wildest dreams it was going to be a complete remake from the ground up, and hopefully a revitalization of a classic series that capcom has been driving into the ground. That's the kind of thing I would happily pay $60 for to play on my PS4. Now it seems like just a basic cash grab.

I doubt it will be $60 and we all know how dead Vita and WiiU is.

How is this a good job?

Look at all of those crushed blacks in the lower right hand corner. You can't even SEE the chest in the HD version.

I can't remember a thread that elicited such excitement from me at first, only for me to then realize that the most minimal of efforts was put into this "Remaster." It's rather disappointing.

What are the odds of Capcom just implementing an option to turn off the remastered backgrounds? They did offer the SD textures in Ultimate HD on Resi 4.

At least that way, you could set the resolution to match what the FMV backgrounds were rendered at and just have your monitor scale the image for you. Isn't a HD remaster that way, but at least you get to experience REMake as it was on GC/Wii if you never had the chance to play it before.

That's all I'm asking for. Pls Capcom..

If they can't/don't want to properly remaster the game I will be super happy with the equivalent of REmake on Dolphin but running natively on my PC this time.

i just don't want "enhancements" that make the image even worse!

Are the new analog controls full analog or are they like the GameCube "analog" controls which were just digital mapped to the analog stick?

If this paves way to RE2 Remake, I'm all for it.

I took a shot in dolphin, cropped it, added noise like they seem to be using, and change the hues to be a similar color. This is all stuff that would be pretty trivial to do real time in game.

It seems like they're adding a LOT of contrast to the backgrounds. What used to be noticeable details before is now flat blacks in this new HD one.

The character's textures seem much improved though.
Only thing you need to match that "remaster" is to dump all the textures and pass them through NNEDI3 in a batch file.
That and a shit-ton of contrast yeah. I could probably do that in two days lol

I don't particularly mind it not being an ultra HD remaster, because at the end of the day it will still be better than playing it on Dolphin on my crummy laptop running at 2x native resolution, 15-20fps average, and lots of glitchy audio. The game was still amazing playing it like that, so I imagine it's gonna be more amazing like this. But seriously Capcom, put this shit on Vita too, and while you're at it give the WiiU some love as well. If you're gonna make up for not putting this game out on any platforms, then you should damn well put it on ALL platforms now.

The funny thing is that this looks like shit on a big screen but would look good on a smaller screen. So, Wii U and Vita, the two systems it isn't on, are basically what this 'remaster' would look good on.

The original game already looks great on the gamepad, just needs the right aspect ratio:

I really want to know the reason why they didn't show PS4/XB1/PC screenshots. Are they afraid of the criticism they would get?

Or, on the other hand, are they making even more improvements like adding real time backgrounds (I can dream LOL!)?

I'm going to buy it on PC anyway. I would like to try out the non-tank controls.

Capcom: Games you love, by a company you hate.

Did they seriously not backup the assets to a blank DVD in 2002 or what? Jesus. I have stuff far older than that and I don't run a multi-million dollar international corporation.

Yeah no way this is coming in at $60, they would have to be nuts (which they have been). That said I think $30 is the highest a digital release of this should go for, $15-20 if they want more impulse sales.

Call me crazy, but I'm in love with the REmaster.

As am I, I really like what I've seen so far and that one overly lit shot of Chris in the main foyer is just a shot of when the lightning flashes so I'm not too worried.

The "pan and scan" stuff is embarrassing, but I see why they're doing it. Kinda.

All in all, it's a good thing more people can have a chance to play such an excellent remake.

Capcom: Games you love, by a company you hate.

It's more like, "Capcom: Old games you love, by a company you used to love which has devolved into a company you hate."

It is on the vita. With remote play, you can control any PlayStation 4 game on your handheld device. No matter ig you're in your home or at the library as long as you have a stable Internet connection anything is possible with the PlayStation family; now this is living. Greatness awaits. Palaustation.

I was super excited over this announcement, but then I read the details. Disappointing. A 'cheap' HD update like the RE4 one. That 'panning' thing to make the game 16:9 seems like it would be annoying as in the original 4:3 setting it was already annoying to sometimes fight zombies that were off screen. Now they're off-screen + in an invisible area of that screen? Huh.

It would be so amazing if they remade it in full 3D and could shoot in first-person (kinda like MGS3: Subsistence). Still keep the screens in their original composition (adjusted to 16:9) with no panning and then going into the shooting stance you have the option to see a 1st person view. That would be amazing, but a lot of work and obviously they're looking for the easiest way to get this 'remaster' to the public. Sigh, Capcom plz.

Never played it on Gamecube, so this could be interesting. I hope the western release date does not coincide with the flood of games coming out in February and March.

That would essentially break the game. It wasn't designed for that. Think Twin Snakes.

Plus, it would cost much more money to create. This is a relatively cheap cash grab on Capcom's part.

I'm sure this was talked about from Capcom Unity poster right?

Is this just a bad rumor/joke? Or can I get hype?

You don't think Capcom could do better than that site?

And Amazon listings are never proof of anything.

I googled NNEDI3 and so far I found that its a scaling process for interlaced images. Im no expert on this stuff but what good would this do toward making images upres to 720p and above? And why would an interlace processes be used rather than Capcom just making the assest render progressively? I mean I can even force the GC version to 480p and the Wii version does it properly through the options.

This looks like DVD vs. slightly better DVD instead of DVD vs. Blu-ray, which is what we should expect.

Lol awful fake with the PS4 exclusivity wish.

I don't know how is Capcom going to market this...is a DIFFICULT game, you have to LEARN how to play, you have to THINK how to solve it, and you have to REMEMBER a number of things during the game, not to mention the inclusion of the crimson heads.

Not really a game for most of the market they are releasing this. Maybe they will put a giant "NOT ON A NINTENDO SYSTEM ANYMORE, WE'ARE COOL NOW!!!" banner next to the title?

Why isn't this being released on the PS4 in Japan. That's unsettling.

I think it's being released just not retail, digital like whole world.
The thing is retail version is PS3 and japan only but this doesn't mean PS3 retail version is the only version they will get.

You're crazy. They've applied some sort of pixel upscaler to it, like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_scaling#xbr_family

It looks really bad, and even worse at zoomed and cropped 1080p. When we see 1080p images, it'll look comically bad.

To be honest, I'm ok with it.

I can't stand these kind of filters for anything 2D; I want my IQ to be pixel precise.

But for a game like REmake? It's like I don't mind, I prefer this over the blur everywhere and the jagged edges I've been dealing with since years.
