Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

Urgh 2015 is going to be a nightmare year!

Feel like I'm going to miss out of So many games/movies with everything in 2015!!!

I really think 2015 is going to be the biggest entertainment year we have ever had

Phantom Pain and REremake. Hype boners getting big.

I'm thinking this is a good opportunity to make some changes to the dog-hallway part at the beginning of the game. Keep that gag fresh since people are expecting it to be the same again this time.

At at least hope the cover is awesome again.

Thinking about it, I remember the original Gamecube version had slight pauses between screens (not just the door opening animations) so the game could load the next background. I assume those will be gone in this new version, so the game may actually run a little smoother... That'd be cool.

Yeah there was some loading quirk and there was certainly a noticeable pause during cutscenes, although it wasn't the fault of the Gamecube itself because in RE: Zero it wasn't there at all and the backgrounds and cutscenes got seemingly more complex with their animations and whatnot and there was no such loading issue.
This might make or break the purchase for me. I absolutely hated that. Please Capcom.

It's not the same in REmake compared to RE1. But they aren't going to be changing any gameplay for this I assume. It's just graphics/sound tweaks and new controls.

It's unreasonable for a $40 game. If they did go back and re-do basically 90% of the game's art assets from scratch, you're probably talking about a $60 game at that point, and not enough people would be willing to pay $60 for a 12-year-old game.

Of course it's unreasonable if they've lost the original assets, I think many people just assume they still have them (as they should, but shit happens), and therefore expect better results.

If they had their stuff together it could be as easy as loading the 3D scene from their files, configuring a better resolution and pressing the magical "render" button, then waiting for some minutes / hours until the rendered image is complete. This could be done automatically even so cost would be minimal.

I think they would've done this if they had the assets, but someone fucked up with backups or something.

…son of a bitch. I first read this thread and checked out the pictures from my phone, and it all looked great. But I told myself this happens all the time and everything looks great on my 5s screen…and now that I've seen the pics on my comp I have so many mixed emotions :/

I will buy it because well it's the only option and it's what's available and I want it on my PS4…but there's some definite disappointment going on as well.

So that extra 20 dollars is all the difference between locating original assets and rendering at a new resolution (no new content creation necessary), and building an entire new game from scratch, models, textures, CG background sets, writers, voice actors, programmers, directors, producers, etc etc etc... every pixel recreated.

You're mad. Daffy. Bonkers!

Have you ever posted an image on Facebook, and then someone asked for you to print that image out? Rather than taking that low res facebook image through instagram and applying various filters to make it look sharper, you'd go back to the original image file, and export an image at a higher resolution. It's simple. You don't have to re-shoot the photo. You don't need to find the location, attempt to emulate the lighting, call everyone to the location who appeared in the photo originally... no.. You just open the original photo file in MS paint and save it out bigger.

That's basically what they need to do.
They don't need to make a whole new game.

At 40 bucks and let's just say a very meager 70,000 sales, digitally, that's $2,800,000.
Is there not enough profit in there to pay the two or three dudes who just need to take original files and export them at higher resolutions?

Again, that's absolutely nothing like creating an entire game from scratch.

I must be the only person not too excited about this. The static camera angle action gunplay of RE1 felt old in 2006, let alone 2014. Nostalgia isn't going to change that for me.

And yes, I played the original back in the late 90s.

Not interested.

Looking at the pictures it looks nice and all but really there's no reason to get it rather than what I have for my gamecube. It's not like any other of the control schemes fare better than the gamecube controller which was it was designed for.

I suppose if I was a huge fan but that's not true anymore and I deeply regret buying so many versions of the same RE games. Not going to do that again.

I want RE2 and RE3 HD so bad. But not just HD ports, I want REmakes. Will it happen? Maybe

Forget it please!

No Mikami no RE2 or RE3 remakes.

Capcom is using they last RE bullets to us with this RE-REmake and the past RE4 Full HD Edition on PC.

Agreed. I may buy this, but I need to make sure the game is also fully functional and not plagued by glitches. And price is a big deal. More than $20 just for this one game, as great of a game as it is and probably my GOAT, would just not be responsible or sensible for me as a consumer.

If Zero gets thrown in there, despite my issues with that, could up that to $30, but again I need to see this in motion.

Yup, price will probably decide whether I get it immediately or later. $20 is my upper limit.

Y'know, as much flack as Zero gets, it would be nice to have an "Origins" bundle of the two. I'd play it again.

I'm so happy. Every RE thread I say that I want a game to go back to their roots. This is good enough. I'd rather a complete re-make, but you better believe I'm going to throw money at this rather than another RE 5 or 6.

This is all assuming they have those original assets. They most likely don't.

prices in yen are listed here:
http://www.capcom.co.jp/biohd/ja/index.html

they're probably not gonna be that far off from USD conversion. Man I hope i can score a pre-order for the collector's edition. It comes with some cool stuff and I always wanted a copy of wesker's report.

It won't be the original Wesker's Report. Says it will be re-edited and remastered.

I assume they're probably just going to replace all of the BIO1 cutscenes featuring the 1996 version with scenes from the remake.

The left image is emulated, the right is from the remaster.

Pretty huge difference - the crushed blacks destroy a lot of subtle details and everything you can see is lazily filtered over with some kind of weird painterly and sharpening layer.

I'm excited by the prospect, but I think Capcom should go back to the drawing board on this one. Pan-and-scan we can't do much about as the aspect ratio of the images is 4:3, most likely would have been that way even with the originals as well.

1) Put all items in item box
2) Put Grenade Launcher in upper-left item slot
3) Put Incendiary Rounds in upper-right item slot
4) Close box
5) Open inventory
6) Equip Grenade Launcher
7) Open box
8) Select Incendiary Rounds from inventory
9) Press ''A'' twice
10) Move cursor to Incendiary Rounds inside box
11) Press ''A'' twice

Gives you 200+ grenade rounds in the launcher for w/e type were equipped. Most use incendiary rounds but can be done with all three types

This was fixed in the american wii release.

Haha, oh man. When I saw the screens earlier this morning, I was on my phone, and thought all of the complaining was typical GAF overreaction. Now that I'm on a proper laptop, oh man.

I mean, there's not much they could have reasonably done short of just remaking the game (again) considering the pre-rendered assets (and we know how good Japanese companies are at archiving those) but man, those are some unflattering screenshots.

...I'll still probably get the JP physical PS3 release and the PS4 release because hey, REmake's a great game.

Great news.

With only a few polygonal characters on screen at once I'd expect native 1080p output for both the PS3/360 versions also. Can't imagine RAM being an issue preventing that either. Perhaps load times for 1080p pre-rendered backgrounds? Nah.

I hope there's a genuine reason why last generation versions are limited to 720p if that turns out to be the case.

I still have REmake in my Gamecube backlog, havent bothered to dig it out n play it.

Still, I might pick this up for $20. Any news if the tank controls are in any way updated? Or would that be basically impossible given the pre-rendered nature of each scene?

I can't work out if this is terrible or not. Should I be excited? Are they doing it justice?
To be honest they're not really doing it justice. It's been twelve years and fans have been begging for a new version of this game (not some quick and easy port, e.g. RE Archives). Capcom had enough time to roll out the red carpet for this one and it just doesn't appear like they're doing more than the bare minimum.

But to be fair I can't tell how much better they could do without the original source files for the backgrounds.

You can play the game with new analog controls, where your character moves wherever you point the stick.
